Feast of St. Paul's Shipwreck, Valletta, Malta
Held every year in Valletta, the Feast of St Paul's Shipwreck remembers the saint's miracles after he took refuge on the island. A procession carries his statue through the streets accompanied by marching bands and fireworks.
In 60 AD, St Paul, patron Saint of Malta, performed a number of miracles during his stay on the island, including the healing of Publius' father, the Roman governor. Tradition has it that when Publius became the first bishop of Malta, St Paul converted the Maltese to Christianity.

CAK, Mymax & Extreme Effects present The Shipwreck - an epic docudrama production that mixes scenes of real places in Malta related to Saint Paul as they are today with realistic CGI scenery and dramatized scenes with real actors and real sets.

Brief info about St Nicholas:
St Nicholas was born during the third century in the village of Patara. He dedicated his life to help the needy, the sick and the suffering. During the reign of Emperor Diocletianus he was exiled and imprisoned.
He died December 6, AD 343 in Myra and was buried in his cathedral church. Nicholas' tomb in Myra became a popular place of pilgrimage. Because of the many wars and attacks in the region, some Christians were concerned that access to the tomb might become difficult. For both the religious and commercial advantages of a major pilgrimage site, the Italian cities of Venice and Bari vied to get the Nicholas relics. In the spring of 1087, sailors from Bari succeeded in spiriting away the bones, bringing them to Bari, a seaport on the southeast coast of Italy. An impressive church was built over St. Nicholas' crypt and many faithful journeyed to honor the saint who had rescued children, prisoners, sailors, famine victims, and many others through his compassion, generosity, and the countless miracles attributed to his intercession. The Nicholas shrine in Bari was one of medieval Europe's great pilgrimage centers and Nicholas became known as Saint in Bari. To this day pilgrims and tourists visit Bari's great Basilica di San Nicola.
Brief info about Siggiewi:
Siggiewi (or Città Ferdinand) is a village and a local council in the southwestern part of Malta. Siggiewi was already established in the 14th century. On December 30, 1797, after a formal request by Don Salvatore Curso, on behalf of his parishioners, Grand Master Ferdinand Von Hompesch instituted the village as a city calling it after his name, Città Ferdinand.
The ruins of the former parish church, dedicated to St Nicholas of Bari are still visible today. Lately, great restoration works have been carried out and retrieved its old glory. The baroque parish church, dedicated to the same saint, was erected by the villagers who raised the necessary funds between the years 1676 to 1693. It was designed by the Maltese architect, Lorenzo Gafà but underwent some changes throughout the years. The portico and naves were added by Professor Nicola Zammit in the latter half of the 19th century.
The titular painting in the church is by the artist Mattia Preti, 'Il calabrese', who was also responsible for the painting on the vault of St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta. The wooden statue which is carried in procession in the city feast day (the last Sunday of June) was sculptured by Pietro Felici in 1736. Four years earlier, in 1732, the same sculptor had produced the stone statue which still stands in the centre of the square. On its pedestal there is a prayer in Latin which implores the saint to bless the fields which the faithful laboriously till.

Ferries to Malta:
Malta is a developed southern European country and consists of an archipelago situated centrally in the Mediterranean, 93 km south of Sicily and 288 km north-east of Tunisia, with Gibraltar 1,826 km to the west and Alexandria 1,510 km to the east.
Malta covers just over 300 km² in land area, making it one of Europe's smallest and one of Europe's most densely populated countries. Its de facto capital is Valletta and the largest city is Birkirkara. Maltese is the national language and a co-official language, alongside English.
Throughout history, Malta's location has given it great strategic importance and a sequence of powers including the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Fatimids, Sicilians, Knights of St John, French and British have all ruled the islands. Malta gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1964 and became a Republic in 1974, whilst retaining membership in the Commonwealth of Nations. It is a member of the United Nations (since 1964) and a member of the European Union (since 2004). Malta is also party to the Schengen Agreement (since 2007)[9] and member of the eurozone (since 2008).
Malta has a long Christian legacy and is an Apostolic See. According to the Acts of the Apostles, St. Paul was shipwrecked on Melite, which many Bible scholars identify with Malta, and ministered there. Catholicism continues to be the official and dominant religion in Malta. Malta is known for its world heritage sites, most prominently the Megalithic Temples which are the oldest free-standing structures in Europe. ( source Wikipedia )

Part 2, feast of St Martin/Il-Fiera ta' San Martin.Malta. The search for illusive snails....
Part 2...Continue with the search for illusive snails.... at Il-Fiera ta' San Martin/feast of St Martin, which is commemorated on the 11th of November, is full of traditions in the Maltese islands. It occurs at a time when walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts and dried figs are found aplenty in Malta, and hence the saying hazelnuts, almonds, chestnuts, figs - oh how I love St Martin. St Martin of Tours was a Roman soldier, who was converted to Christianity in his adulthood following a dream which he had after helping out a poor man on the street. In Maltese culture, St Martin's feast is celebrated on the Sunday closest to the 11th November, in the village of Bahrija, where an annual fair and small procession takes place.

STORM OF THE CENTURY: MALTA, PART 1
The biggest storm in memory slams into the Maltese Islands just south of Sicily in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. Hurricane force winds carried sand in the rain all the way from the Sahara as the tiny islands were besieged by 15-30 ft waves.
