Bsous Silk Museum Lebanon
History
The structure was originally built by the Fayad family, and operated as a silk factory between 1901 and 1954.In 1990, for a short time, the factory and the grounds were occupied by the Syrian army. It was restored by its owners, George and Alexandra Asseily, with the help of Jean-Louis Mange, to serve as a museum. The museum opened in 2000 and highlights the 1,500-year-old history of silk production in Lebanon, which ended when the last silk mill closed in the 1970s.
Thierry Huau and Francoise Le Noble Predine from Paris, played a major role in the redevelopment of the gardens to the building. Le Noble brought wild silk from Madagascar and together with Mona Sader Issa helped to establish a MED, the Association of Memory and Development. Students of the Lycée Agricole et Horticole of Saint Germain en Laye in France and the Association have been responsible for many ecological projects in the village of Bsous and the pine forests around Beirut. Architect Jacques Abou Khaled, under the management of Sami Feghali were responsible for the redesign of the building into a museum.

Bsous Silk Museum
This records my visit to the Silk Museum at Bsous in Lebanon, a short distance south-east of Beirut. The secrets of silk were stolen from China, along with the all-important silkworms, by agents working for the Eastern Roman (or Byzantine) emperor Justinian the First in the 500s CE. Silk was woven in Lebanon for the next 1500 years, although these days the industry doesn't really exist any more as a commercial undertaking.

The Sursock Museum of Contemporary Art - A Cultural Treasure in Beirut, Lebanon
The Sursock Museum of Contemporary Art is a real cultural treasure in Lebanon's capital Beirut. It is a place where history meets modern art. The Museum is located in Ashrafieh, one of Beirut's oldest districts. A visit to the Museum is free of charge but you can choose to leave a small donation.
The Sursock Museum is housed in the former residence of Nicolas Sursock, a Lebanese art collector and a member of the prominent Sursock family. At the heart of the Museum, you can visit Salon Arabe, the oriental style lounge where Nicolas Sursock welcomed guests. The ceiling and the walls of Salon Arabe are decorated with hand carved woodwork which was imported from Damascus in the 1920s. One of the walls features a tile panel, created by 17th century craftsmen in Damascus.
The Sursock Museum has recently undergone a major restoration and expansion of the existing building. As part of the renovation project, four underground floors have been added to the original building. The modern design of the new part is characterised by simplicity and elegance. The new part of the Museum houses a library and various modern art exhibitions.

The different steps of how silk is made...
Art Silk Museum
The Silk Museum is a living thematic museum for the production and processing of silk in the city of Soufli.
Original exhibits combined with modern technology, leading the visitor step by step on a journey as unique as the silk itself.
As a part of the Museum there are guided tours for groups and schools. Visitors can get a taste of the stages of silk production through the operating exhibits like processing of yarn till and weaving.
The exhibits are supplemented by video, highlighting all stages of the breeding of silkworms up to the final product.
It is housed in a neoclassical building of 1886, located downtown of Soufli, which was renovated and opened in September 2008. For the reconstruction of the building only natural materials such as iron and wood were used.
Unique masterpieces of the building as the heavy iron doors, shutters and a mural were found, preserved and presented today just as they were during the construction of the building.
At the reception you can see the photographic record of the proceedings of the work of restoration.
The building was operated as a store of general trade and workshop of candles, something that probably justifies the existence of internal well, for fire safety reasons.

The notes shown in the videos are mostly unpayable, extremely expensive, rare and beautiful!
