Trip Along The Wild Atlantic Way - Episode 2 - Kerry
For more episodes and content check out my website:
seangallagher.digital
This is the second episode of our journey along our Wild Atlantic Way trip showcasing Kerry.
For the second stretch of the journey we woke up in Killarney and made our way down to Portmagee. Portmagee is situated right beside Valencia Island and the Skellig experience visitors centre. Valencia offers a lot for such a small island! You can see the Skelligs in plain sight from Valencia island on a clear day, visually breathtaking, I really recommend it for a day trip if you can. After an Irish stew, we joined our boat in misty rain and saw the Skelligs 12km out from the shores of Ireland. They were amazing to see up close. After visiting the Skelligs we drove around the ring of Kerry, stopping at Kate Kearney's cottage and other great stops along the way like the Torc waterfall. After this we also observed all of the scenery of the ring of Kerry by boat, the tour started at Ross castle and the boat driver was nice enough to bring us around even though there were only 4 people who paid for the tour! Absolute gentleman. The next day we visited the Gap of Dunloe after overtaking many horse and carts along the way. Finally and we made our way towards Dingle and explored Conor Pass and the Slea head drive on the way. After a lot of Guinness the night before, we got our final footage of Dingle and made our way towards Clare for the next leg of our journey, Kerry is visually one of the best counties in my opinion, the people are class as well. I can't wait to visit again!

Visit PUFFINS on SKELLIG MICHAEL I Ireland
In this video, we visit Puffins on Skellig Michael in beautiful Ireland. We knew there would be puffins on Skellig Michael, but we weren't prepared for 10,000 plus birds. We didn't mind because they were cute and we enjoyed sharing the island with them.
Skellig Michael was also a filming location for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Ring of Kerry - Ireland
The Ring of Kerry is a tourist trail in County Kerry, south-western Ireland. The route covers the 179 km circular road (N70, N71 and R562), starting from Killarney, heading around the Iveragh Peninsula and passing through Kenmare, Sneem, Waterville, Cahersiveen and Killorglin. Popular points include Muckross House (near Killarney), Staigue stone fort and Derrynane House, home of Daniel O'Connell. Just south of Killarney, Ross Castle, Lough Leane, and Ladies View (a panoramic viewpoint), all located within Killarney National Park, are major attractions located along the Ring. A more complete list of major attractions along the Ring of Kerry includes: Gap of Dunloe, Bog Village, Rossbeigh Beach, Cahersiveen Heritage Centre, Derrynane House, Skellig Experience, Staigue Fort, Kenmare Lace, Moll's Gap, Ladies View, Torc Waterfall, Muckross House, The Blue Pool, Ross Castle, Ogham Stones, St Mary's Cathedral, Muckross Abbey, Franciscan Friary, Kellegy Church, O'Connell Memorial Church, Sneem Church and Cemetery, Skellig Michael, Beehive Cells and the Stone Pillars marking an important grave.
There is also an established walking path named The Kerry Way, which takes its own route, and a signposted Ring of Kerry cycling path which uses older quieter roads where possible. The Kerry Way roughly follows the scenic driving route of the Ring of Kerry.
There are numerous variations to the route taking in St. Finian's Bay and Valentia Island which the official driving ring misses (the official cycling route takes in Valentia island). The Ring of Kerry has much to offer in terms of attractions. Not only does it have some of Europe's finest beaches, but also offers the Gap of Dunloe, Bog Village, Derrynane House, the Skellig Experience Valentia Island, Molls Gap, Torc Waterfall, Muckross House and Ross Castle.
The Ring is a popular day trip and numerous bus companies offer trips during the summer months. As the narrow roads make it difficult for tour coaches to pass, all tour buses run in an anti-clockwise (or counter-clockwise) direction, traveling via Killorglin first. It is recommended that car owners travel in the opposite direction, going first to Kenmare to avoid delays caused by tour buses. In 2008 satellite navigation systems were blamed for directing bus drivers in a clockwise direction around the route. ( source Wikipedia )

Boat tour around Skellig Michael | Skellig Michael Cruises
Boat tour around Skellig Michael visit:
Two days ago I went out for the first time to Skellig Michael with Skellig Michael Cruises. The day itself weather wise was spectacular. The village of Portmagee was drenched with warm May sunshine as I arrived. Met Brendan Devane our captain, who was in great spirits chatting to the passengers: I started talking to a few fellow voyagers a couple from the Uk and Michael from the US. The main stays of the conversations were that these holiday makers could not believe the natural beauty of Southkerry and Portmagee itself. But Iittle did they know that things were about to even get better.
So Brendan took the helm as the Marber therse 11 was ready to take us out to the great rocks. We all went quite together contemplating what the voyage had in store. So our boat tour around Skellig Michael had started.
The colourful village of Portmagee started to shrink as we made our way out of the harbour. The first point we passed of real historical was at foilhammerom the site of the first transatlantic communication between Europe and the US. As Brendan announced these fact people soon began to speak and start taking pictures left right and center. From this point on all conversation ceased. Everybody was too busy taking images of the most memorable and enjoyable trip I was ever on.
Marber Thersese
Now we had moved beyond the land and in the open Alantic as the Marber Therese 11 gliding over the sea. We could see bray tower behind us on island of Valentia. Also to our right we could see the cliffs and the site of Kerry cliffs which looked just as impressive from this angle. Brendan our captain was informing us that island to our left was the Puffin Island the home to almost 10,000 Atlantic puffins.
Returning home on the boat tour
The Marber therse started to head for home as we looked out the back we could see the islands starting to get a little smaller and now the Atlantic Ocean was still and beautiful blue flecting a wonderful summers day. We drew closer to land with every ripple again we could see the Puffin Island standing proud and just behind were the defiant Kerry Cliffs. Of to the left standing watch was Bray tower. Now in a moment we were back in the harbour it felt like a dream we were left spell bound on a beautiful summer's day on the Marber therse as she stole in to Portmagee.
Put a Boat tour to SKellig Michael on your Bucket list
This tour is a must Just watch the video above to see what i speak of. However i can assure you that this does not do justice to the most amazing experience we had at the skellig Island on that sun soaked May day

Interstitial Zones is a major IwB initiative and partnership with the Kerry County Council, and other local stakeholders, in southwestern Ireland. The project focuses on creating sustainable economic development that will provide new job creation in the region. Imagining Iveragh was the first academic charrette held for this project.
Team 3 developed a proposal for OPEN, a space for new ways to see and experience Iveragh’s rich archeological landscape. The OPEN approach invites people to be part of discovering all the ‘not yet discovered’ archeology of the area. The video summarizes the team’s concept.
