Encompas / Floorwarming UK - Carlisle United Undersoil Heating Installation
Local businesses join together to help Carlisle United
The heat was really on for Floorwarming UK when the Cumbria-based firm were handed the prestigious contract to install undersoil pipes beneath Carlisle United's new pitch.
Not only did the project have to be done while the pitch was being relayed, but over 24 miles of special piping had to be manufactured and transported from Italy in time for the work to start.
Using the kind of teamwork that Blues boss Paul Simpson would be proud of, Floorwarming UK joined forces with Story Construction and Eddie Stobart Ltd to ensure the tight schedule was met.
Floorwarming UK managing director Richard Dixon said: Relaying the pitch gave us a rare opportunity to install undersoil heating at Brunton Park, but we only had a window of a couple of days to get the work done.
With Story Construction working flat out on the pitch, we came to an arrangement with Eddie Stobart Ltd to send one of their lorries down to northern Italy to pick up the specially-made piping.
It's been a case of three local firms pulling together to ensure that Carlisle United have the best pitch in the division when they play in Coca Cola League One next season.
Story Construction are the main contractor responsible for the groundworks and managing the laying of the new pitch.
Managing director Fred Story, who is also chairman of Carlisle United, said: I'm delighted to see such support from our local business community. After a couple of phone calls we're getting undersoil piping which will be a real benefit to the club, and at a fraction of the cost, and they are been specially delivered from Italy so that our timescales don't slip. Our guys on site are working flat out to get this project completed in record time.
