THE SPLIT AND A BOAT RIDE | TRAVELING FROM AMBERGRIS CAYE TO CAYE CAULKER BELIZE
For my wife's birthday this year we decided to travel to Belize to do a little island hopping. This is the third episode in our trip to Belize so if you'd like to see the others please visit my channel youtube.com/iamdanreeve . In this short video we travel from Ambergris Caye to Caye Caulker Belize. As much as we loved Ambergris we really loved Caye Caulker. It's a very laid back small island with dirt roads and almost zero cars. You will see the swimming spot The Split, as well as some of the amazing island roadside grills. We loved all of our trip to Belize, but Caye Caulker is truly somewhere special. Thanks as always for watching. Dan

- $25usd cab ride to BZE airport
Details:
Stepping off the ferry at Caye Caulker, it’s obvious the pace of leisure and business is slower, relaxed, and calm. The motto “No shirt, no shoes, no problem” as well as “go slow” are written along walls, signs, and restaurants. This island is a must for those looking to relax and chill without the busyness of a larger city like San Pedro. There are very few cars, mainly the presence of golf carts and bicycles. It is a smaller island compared to Ambergris so the variety of restaurants and bars is fewer, but still no shortage of things to do and places to eat. Walking is easily done from one end of the island to the other; having a bike or golf cart does cut down on travel time, but walking was very relaxing. The dogs take things slow as well as they wander the streets during the day and catch naps under pick-nick tables or on the sand. There is an animal/adoption shelter where you may visit with the animals and also make monetary donations to support their work.
Our accommodation was at the Caye Caulker Beach Hotel where check-in was on the main floor of the grocery store. We booked using “Airbnb” for a great price. The room was very small, but clean, while the restroom was very nice and almost as big as the room itself. It was just want we needed to rest and recharge. This hotel has an amazing rooftop patio with hammocks and a great view of the island. Catching the sunset on the rooftop was a bonus.
The Split is where everyone visits a few times during their stay. It’s very chill with music, lots of good food, and of course no shortage of drinks. You can jump off the seawall or the tower, sit at tables perched in the water or on the sand, or pick out your favorite chair to commandeer. On windy days, you’ll see kite-surfers on the water, otherwise “The Split” is used as a passage way for many small boats to cross.
The roads are organized to reflect a front, middle, and back street...roughly. The further you move away from “The Split”, the better the prices generally are for food. If you're a fan of Italian food, check out Pasta Per Caso where they hand make their pasta and sauces fresh daily. The menu is small, and does not list what the pasta is as they change it up daily according to what they can make fresh. Your server informs you of the two pasta dishes for the day. It's sooooo good. There is a bakery that opens for a few hours in the morning, then again in the afternoon called Caye Caulker Bakery with fresh breads, and baked sweet and savory treats. Pick up a fresh cinnamon bun if you get the chance.
We had the opportunity to head out snorkeling at Hol Chan Marine Reserve ($10usd/person) and Shark Ray Alley. We highly recommend this experience as the sea creatures are absolutely incredible. Having the second largest barrier reef, marine life in Belize is amazing. These excursions are available on San Pedro also and the distance to these two sites is shorter from San Pedro than Caye Caulker. On the way out snorkeling, our captain, Captain Ish, took us out to fish for some live bait, sardines, which we used to fish in the open ocean. This experience was very memorable. Arriving back at Caye Caulker, Captain Ish took us to the Tarpon Feeding Dock located at the end of the road in front of Barefoot Caribe Bar and Grill. At $5bze, you're given sardines to feed to these huge tarpon fish that are protected in this area. It's a very neat, fun, and safe experience. Captain Ish was such a fun, friendly, and warm hearted individual. He invited us to his place for dinner where he cooked the fish we caught and we ate with his family. Caye Caulker is such a magical little island. Our favorite of the places we visited in Belize.

The Split at Caye Caulker, Belize
The Split is a narrow channel where two parts of Caye Caulker separate. The place to hang out, swim, drink some beers and soak up the sun. Caye Caulker is protected by a reef so this is the best version of a beach on the island. Go check it out and soak up the amazing Caye Caulker days.

Caye Caulker Belize Island - Travel guide 2019
Caye Caulker is and island located a short boat ride from Belize City. In this travel guide we share our experiences and time on the wonderful island.
Caye Caulker is the ideal get away for those looking for the taste of island life. It is home to the most beautiful blue waters and if your looking for the ultimate chill our bar, where you can also enjoy the sea then head down to the Lazy Lizard bar located on the Split.
The split is the name given to the small channel of water that runs straight through the middle of the island.
A trip to Caye Caulker wouldn't be complete without going on one of the many snorkelling tours on offer. The reef that runs down the coastline of Belize and Honduras is the second largest reef in the world.
There are lots of different shops selling snorkelling tours but we decided to use Reef Friendly Tours - They are the most environmentally friendly tours and we like to support businesses who help a good cause. We had a fabulous snorkelling tour and we would not hesitate in recommending them.
