The Ballad of Johnny Longstaff - Promo
Three time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winners The Young’uns present a new and unique piece of modern folk theatre.
The Ballad of Johnny Longstaff is the story of one man’s adventure from begging on the streets in the north of England to fighting against fascism in the Spanish Civil War, taking in the Hunger Marches and the Battle of Cable Street. It’s a timely, touching and often hilarious musical adventure following the footsteps of one working class hero who witnessed some of the momentous events of the 1930s. With their trademark harmony, honesty and humour the Teesside trio bring together 16 specially composed songs, spoken word, striking imagery and the real recorded voice of Johnny himself to tell a remarkable human story oozing with modern relevance.
“The harmonies are glorious, the wit is waspish. The songs are powerful, the banter is relentless and the audience is happy. What’s not to like? ★★★★★ The Guardian
“Glorious....celebrating the uncelebrated with warmth, vigour and passion” ★★★★ MOJO
“TheTeesside trio have captured hearts – and awards – with a magic combination of lusty acapella singing, memorable tunes and heart-on-sleeve storytelling with an unashamedly political cry for social justice.” ★★★★ Songlines
“Magnificent - destined to become hailed as national treasures before long” ★★★★★ Maverick
“Powerful, inspiring and moving” ★★★★★ RnR Magazine
“A heartfelt secular hymnary for these troubled times and a rallying call for humanity.” ★★★★ The Scotsman
“This collection surely marks Sean Cooney’s arrival as one of the very best songwriters of the modern day” Colin Irwin, fRoots

YOU'RE NOT ALONE - Written by Catherine Feeney and Nikki Lamborn
Oh my Lord, how can your live your life this way
How on earth can you throw it all away
Always chasing tomorrow, losing what happened today
Talk is cheap, in a discount hideaway
Loser's creep in and out of lives
As they preach their personal sorrow, throwing away one more day
Oh my Lord
You're all alone, you're in too deep
Your head's too heavy and your heart won't beat
The rhythm of life is moving too fast
Free your mind and you're free at last
You're not alone, you're not alone
You're not alone, you're not alone
You're not alone, you're not alone
Free your mind, and you're free at last
Running scared, your own worst enemy
You could be somebody or nobody
Oh my Lord, how can you live your life this way
How on earth could you throw it all away
Always chasing tomorrow, losing what happened today
You're all alone, you're in too deep
Your head's too heavy and your heart won't beat
The rhythm of life is moving too fast
Free your mind and you're free at last
You're not alone, you're not alone
You're not alone, you're not alone
You're not alone, you're not alone
Free your mind, and you're free at last
You're not alone, you're not alone
(repeats)
Oh my Lord
Oh my Lord
Oh my Lord
Song Published by Lock Stock and Barrel Music
Taken from Never The Bride - In Concert At The Stables Theatre - a beautiful package of DVD and accompanying CD.
Nikki Lamborn in stunning voice as always singing a selection of their greatest songs from over the years, including this new version of their Bondesque song The Living Tree that was famously covered by Dame Shirley Bassey.
All night long Catherine 'Been' Feeney rocked and caressed the keys of The Stable's Steinway in her very own magical way.
They were joined on stage by a world class line up of musicians... two great guitarists, Stuart Dixon and Murray Gould on acoustics and dobro, and the amazing rhythm section, David Levy, acoustic and upright bass and Richie Newman, drums and percussion.
If you were there in the audience, relive that wonderful evening with the DVD and if you couldn't get there on the night, we're here for you now. All of you get some friends round and introduce them to Never The Bride. Give them a shot or two of tequila during the tequila talk in the extras.
You also have the CD for the car, turn it up, loud and proud of your favourite band.
We've spent time editing and mixing this to perfection, two hours of concert footage, 16 great performances recorded and filmed at the beautiful Stables Theatre, UK, in 2010.
Enjoy, spread the music and the love... x
