The Staffordshire Regiment Museum is a military museum in Staffordshire, England, preserving the history of the Staffordshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales's), its antecedent regiments and its successor regiment, the Mercian Regiment, from 1705 to the present. The Staffordshire Regiment was an Infantry regiment of the British Army, formed in 1959 by the amalgamation of the South Staffordshire Regiment and the North Staffordshire Regiment.
The museum was established on its present buildings in 1969, incorporating the formerly separate museums of The North Staffordshire Regiment and The South Staffordshire Regiment, both of which were founded in the 1930s.

The Coltman Trench
To commemorate the beginnings of the 100 year anniversary since the start of World War One our trench system has been refurbished to include some new additional features and exhibits.
Our trench system is a reconstruction of a 100 meter section of British front line trench from the First World War. It is named after Lance Corporal William Coltman VC and serves as a memorial to him and all of the soldiers of Staffordshire who served in that war. Lance Corporal Coltman was a stretcher bearer in the 1st/6th North Staffords and was the most highly decorated soldier of the War, winning, in addition to his Victoria Cross, the Distinguished Conduct Medal and Bar and the Military Medal and Bar. Other features of the trench are named after the six additional Regimental winners of the Victoria Cross in World War One.
The primary purpose of the Coltman Trench is as an educational facility, providing visitors with some idea of the conditions soldiers lived and fought in during the First World War. Museum visitors may tour the Trench on their own but organised parties, including schools, are encouraged to arrange special visits where uniformed tour guides are able to explain and demonstrate aspects of the Trench and Trench Warfare. During regular special events the Trench is manned by living history groups and each year our very popular ‘Carols in the Trenches’ takes place just before Christmas.

The Mercian Brigade was an administrative formation of the British Army from 1948 to 1964.The Brigade administered the infantry regiments from the area of England between the Trent, Mersey and Severn rivers that roughly corresponded to the ancient kingdom of Mercia. After the Second World War the British Army had fourteen infantry depots, each bearing a letter. The depots were territorially organised, and Infantry Depot K at Whittington Barracks near Lichfield was the headquarters for the county regiments of Cheshire, Staffordshire, and Worcestershire.

Armed Forces Covenant - The Whittington Tapestry Pt 1
A project to produce an eight-metre long tapestry at the Whittington army barracks in Staffordshire helped bring civilian and armed services communities together. The project was partly funded by a grant from the Covenant Fund, which makes £10m a year available in grants for community schemes which help integrate civilian and armed forces communities, help veterans, armed forces families and to local authorities to improve local covenant delivery.
