Custom House Speaker Sculpture, Trollope Plaque, Belfast
I've wandered down into Custom House Square Belfast, now designated as part of Titanic Quarter. I've arrived in front of the Charles Lanyon 1857 built Custom House. This is an area of Belfast that I have never ever visited. I never had any reason to go there. So I was rather surprised about what I stumbled across in a few short minutes. ( I hope to return here and film a more detailed video. )
First of all we have the magnificent Custom House building itself dating from 1857 -architect Charles Lanyon. ( Apparently there is some dispute as to who was responsible Lanyon or
Samuel Ferris. ) The Customs House in the High Italian Renaissance or Palazzo style is the finest neoclassical building in Belfast.
Then there is a fine sculpture titled the speaker by Gareth Knowles and then there is a blue plaque up on the balconey telling us that famous chronicler/writer Anthony Trollope worked at the Custom House Belfast building as a postal surveyor. ( I did not know he had even visited Ireland north or south! )
The Customs House has literary associations with novelist Anthony Trollope, who worked here briefly before being transferred to Dublin. When working in the Post Office in Ireland, Trollope was promoted to the position of Surveyor in 1853 and spent the next eighteen months as an administrator of the postal system in the island's northern counties. He and his family probably lived on the Lisburn Road, south of the town's centre, and then moved to White-abbey, north of Belfast. Here he completed the first of his Barsetshire Novels, The Warden, in 1855.
Gareth Knowles Sculpture The Speaker Custom House Belfast
The steps of the Customs House formerly distinguished themselves as the chosen forum for public debate and for many years religious, political and social speakers addressed audiences here up to the 1950s. Knowles obviously had this in mind when he placed his 'Speaker' , bronze, life sized, sculpture near the steps.
Gareth knowles ( born 1965 -53yrs old ) is a very well known and respected Engilsh sculptor.
His life journey has been led by his passion to sculpt and has taken him from an idyllic Wiltshire village to the wilds of rural Donegal Ireland, to the orange blossom coast on a Spanish mountainside, where he now lives with his family and animals. He has made working models for the film industry, created birds of prey for Arabian royalty, built an exquisite dragon from semi-precious stones and shared a dream with his hero, legendary film director Ray Harryhausen, to sculpt a giant depiction of Britain’s greatest explorer David Livingstone being attacked by a lion.
Gareth works from bespoke thimble-sized miniatures to monumental pieces, across ceramic, bronze, silver and gold.
Clients include Garrard Crown Jewellers, David Morris Jewellers and The National Trust.
X-Plane 11 Bergen, Flesland Airport ENBR / BGO ✈ Live HD
Innsbruck Airport (LOWI) is the largest international airport in Tyrol, Austria. The airport handles regional flights around the Alps. During the winter, activity increases significantly, due to the high number of skiers travelling to the region.
Innsbruck Airport is well known for having a difficult approach due to surrounding terrain, prohibiting certain aircraft types from operating at the airport. The approach and descent is a very complicated process—the Alps create vicious winds and currents, which the pilot has to deal with throughout the process. Because there are mountains all around, the plane usually circles the airport, enters a pattern, to decrease both speed and altitude.

SUMMARY
=======
Kent is a county in South East England and one of the home counties. It borders Greater London to the north-west, Surrey to the west and East Sussex to the south-west. The county also shares borders with Essex along the estuary of the River Thames (connected by land via High Speed 1 and the Dartford Crossing), and with the French department of Pas-de-Calais through the Channel Tunnel. The county town is Maidstone.
Canterbury Cathedral in Kent has been the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, leader of the Church of England, since the Reformation. Prior to that it was built by Catholics, dating back to the conversion of England to Catholicism by Saint Augustine that began in the 6th century. Before the English Reformation the cathedral was part of a Benedictine monastic community known as Christ Church, Canterbury, as well as being the seat of the Catholic Archbishop of Canterbury. The last Catholic Archbishop of Canterbury was Reginald Pole. Rochester Cathedral is also in Kent, in Medway. It is the second-oldest cathedral in England, with Canterbury Cathedral being the oldest. Between London and the Strait of Dover, which separates it from mainland Europe, Kent has seen both diplomacy and conflict, ranging from the Leeds Castle peace talks of 1978 and 2004 to the Battle of Britain in World War II.
England relied on the county's ports to provide warships through much of its history; the Cinque Ports in the 12th–14th centuries and Chatham Dockyard in the 16th–20th centuries were of particular importance. France can be seen clearly in fine weather from Folkestone and the White Cliffs of Dover. Hills in the form of the North Downs and the Greensand Ridge span the length of the county and in the series of valleys in between and to the south are most of the county's 26 castles.
Because of its relative abundance of fruit-growing and hop gardens, Kent is known as The Garden of England.Kent's economy is greatly diversified; haulage, logistics, and tourism are major industries. In northwest Kent industries include extraction of aggregate building materials, printing and scientific research. Coal mining has also played its part in Kent's industrial heritage. Large parts of Kent are within the London commuter belt and its strong transport connections to the capital and the nearby continent make Kent a high-income county. Twenty-eight per cent of the county forms part of two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: the North Downs and The High Weald.

SUMMARY
=======
Spiritualism is a religious movement based on the belief that the spirits of the dead exist and have both the ability and the inclination to communicate with the living. The afterlife, or the spirit world, is seen by spiritualists, not as a static place, but as one in which spirits continue to evolve. These two beliefs — that contact with spirits is possible, and that spirits are more advanced than humans — lead spiritualists to a third belief, that spirits are capable of providing useful knowledge about moral and ethical issues, as well as about the nature of God. Some spiritualists will speak of a concept which they refer to as spirit guides—specific spirits, often contacted, who are relied upon for spiritual guidance. Spiritism, a branch of spiritualism developed by Allan Kardec and today practiced mostly in Continental Europe and Latin America, especially in Brazil, emphasizes reincarnation.Spiritualism developed and reached its peak growth in membership from the 1840s to the 1920s, especially in English-speaking countries. By 1897, spiritualism was said to have more than eight million followers in the United States and Europe, mostly drawn from the middle and upper classes.
Spiritualism flourished for a half century without canonical texts or formal organization, attaining cohesion through periodicals, tours by trance lecturers, camp meetings, and the missionary activities of accomplished mediums. Many prominent spiritualists were women, and like most spiritualists, supported causes such as the abolition of slavery and women's suffrage. By the late 1880s the credibility of the informal movement had weakened due to accusations of fraud perpetrated by mediums, and formal spiritualist organizations began to appear. Spiritualism is currently practiced primarily through various denominational spiritualist churches in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
