BREAKING: DID IRAN JUST LOCK DOWN THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ?
Sub for more: | Concerns are being raised by observers on social media regarding the strategic waterway known as the Strait of Hormuz. Traffic has not moved through the strait in more than 13 hours. The Strait is controlled, in large part, by the nation of Iran.
The normal traffic lanes appear to be closed and shipping vessels halted.
On either side of the Strait, of the coast of Dubai and Fujairah, maritime traffic website MarineTraffic.com, shows dozens of ships waiting for passage.
The narrow Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most, if not the most strategic strait of water on the planet. Through its waters, in giant ocean-going tankers, passes much of the oil from Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
It is unclear, at the time of this report what the cause of the blockage is however some speculate it may be related to Iran’s capture and release of the US Sailors on Wednesday.

LSJ News: Anger over Lincoln Christmas Market 2012 one way route
Lincoln's annual Christmas Market is under threat.
A new proposal put forward by the City of Lincoln Council could see a one way system put in place if plans go ahead.
The news came as a devastating blow to local independent traders on Steep Hill and the Strait who could miss out on up to half of the footfall they are used to if the proposal is granted.
The council urges that the plan will ensure a higher level of safety for visitors to the market with less trips, slips and falls especially on narrow parts of the Strait and Steep Hill area.
However, local shop owners aren't convinced and have warned that if a one way system is implemented they'll be only one way for the shops and that is to close.

Taiwan Navy Ships Shadows China Carrier Group After Chinese President Xi Jinping Warning
TAIPEI: Taiwan has sent ships and aircraft to shadow a Chinese aircraft carrier group through the narrow Taiwan Strait, its defence ministry said on Wednesday (Mar 21), after Chinese President Xi Jinping offered his strongest warning against Taiwan separatism to date.
China claims Taiwan as its sacred territory and considers the self-ruled island a wayward province, which Xi said on Tuesday would face the punishment of history for any attempt at separatism.

Iranian Ships Fire Rockets as US Aircraft Carrier Enters Persian Gulf
A US aircraft carrier sailed into the Persian Gulf on Friday, becoming the first since America’s withdrawal from the Iran nuke deal and breaking the longest carrier absence in the volatile region since at least the September 11 terror attacks.
The arrival of the USS John C. Stennis comes as Iranian officials have returned to repeatedly threatening to close off the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf through which a third of all oil traded by sea passes. Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps vessels shadowed the Stennis and its strike group, at one point launching rockets away from it and flying a drone nearby.

Strait of Hormuz, the world's biggest oil chokepoint, in focus as tensions flare | Nice Hand
The threat of an escalating conflict between the U.S. and Iran puts the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway through which a fifth of the world’s petroleum supply must move through, back in focus.

Sea crossings: Maas calls for coalition of aiders
(22 Jul 2019) Germany's Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Monday called for a coalition of aiders to be put together to manage the migration crisis in the Mediterranean.
Speaking briefly to journalists after an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers on the crisis, Maas said significant progress had been made at gathering, adding that a mechanism to handle rescue ship arrivals needed to be found.
This haggling on the telephone when a ship of private sea rescue is somewhere in front of a port and the question of who takes in what and how many refugees must really come to an end, Maas said, calling the current situation undignified.
The European Union's border agency has said about 57,000 unauthorised crossings were detected in Spain, the leading entry point for migrants to Europe in 2018, double the figure for 2017, while overall in Europe they reached a five-year low.
Last week it said that 14,667 people have arrived in Spain without authorisation since the beginning of the year, compared to 19,997 during the same period in 2018.
Most risk their lives crossing the Mediterranean Sea in small boats unsuited for open water.
Maas also commented on the ongoing tense situation in the Persian Gulf after Iran seized commercial vessels in a key shipping lane.
He called for a de-escalation of tensions, a view he said was shared by Britain and France, and added the diplomatic card should also continue to be played.
Restoring the free flow of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is of critical importance to the world's energy supplies because one-fifth of all global crude exports pass through the narrow waterway between Iran and Oman.

DAILY DOSE | Fearing being underprepared for a major disaster, the IDF joined several nations in an exercise of maritime rescue. Our Daniel Tsemach has the story.
Story:
Iran's Defense Ministry warned on Thursday that any Israeli involvement in a US-led naval operation into the Strait of Hormuz would have “disastrous consequences for the region.
Defense Minister Amir Hatami reportedly added that the military coalition that America is seeking to form with the excuse of securing maritime transport will only increase insecurity in the region,” during a discussion with defense officials from Qatar, Kuwait and Oman.
The warning comes as Washington ramps up pressure on the Islamic Republic following a string of incidents that have stirred tensions in the Gulf, including Tehran's capture of a UK oil tanker last month and the downing of US drone over the Strait of Hormuz earlier in the summer.
On Wednesday the US Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration issued a warning about the threat of Iran in the Gulf specifically as it is alleged to be interfering with GPS signals in the Strait. The officials cited reports of unknown entities falsely claiming to be US or coalition warships, seemingly to seize the vessels by having them directed into Iranian waters.
On Tuesday, Israel's Foreign Minister reportedly told officials that Jerusalem is assisting a US-led mission designed to protect ships traveling along the narrow sea passage.
Israel Katz said during a closed-door session of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that the country is currently participating in the mission, providing intelligence along with other unspecified operations in the Gulf.
According to Hebrew-language daily Yedioth Ahronoth, Katz instructed members of the Foreign Ministry to provide assistance in the effort following a recent visit to the United Arab Emirates.
A source from Abu Dhabi told the Israeli publication that the mission was launched in order to tackle the emerging “Iranian threat” that has disrupted trade in the region.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani urged the US to reopen a dialogue with the Tehran, saying that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace and war with Iran is the mother of all wars as he defended a landmark 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.
