On mid October 2014 I visited the Sucha Bela Valley and surrouding areas in the Slovak Paradise National Park with members of the European Wilderness Society. Suchá Belá is one of the most popular gorges in Slovak Paradise National Park in Kosice region, Slovakia. Here is a short video from my hiking tour. More info and pictures here:
Sucha Bela - The best hike in Europe!
Sucha Bela is a fascinating trek, which winds up through a mountain gorge, over wooden bridges, up metal ladders and through the bed of the creek itself. Walking it is a thoroughly exhilarating experience and one of the highlights of our trip.
It feels like you are in an Indiana Jones movie, as you tip-toe carefully across the slippery logs, before trying to elegantly shift weight to your new footing on the rock sides of the canyon. As you navigate ever upwards, the canyon rises, at times towering 30 meters above your head. In places it widens and you step on rocks to keep your feet from the ever-flowing stream that has carved your path, at others you must turn sideways, side-stepping across wooden ladders while pushing through narrow walls of rock.
If you are visiting Slovakia, or Eastern Europe in general, this is something that you must put on your to do list. It is a wonderful, awe inspiring hike, which connects you to nature while constantly demanding your concentration and agility.

Prielom Hornádu canyon in winter, Slovak Paradise National Park
Prielom Hornádu canyon is one of the best places to visit in Slovak Paradise National Park in eastern #Slovakia. It's accessible all year round, but in winter it has a special look and offers a very special adventure.
When the river Hornad freezes you can walk on its ice cover! This winter is not so ideal so far, and this video is from January 2017, but the winter still hasn't finished yet! :) Read here what else to visit in this national park here:

Zima je v plnom prúde ale zatiaľ viac slnečná než pravá zimná. Také 3 roky dozadu nám ale priala viac! Na 17°C pod nulou si pred východom slnka v Slovenskom raji veľmi dobre spomínam :)
A v takom počasí sa nedá ísť inde než na zamrznutý Prielom Hornádu! :) Ani na ten adrenalín na praskajúcom ľade nezabudnem, no ale rád by som si to ešte niekedy zopakoval.
Myslíte, že sa tento rok bude dať? :) Dovtedy môžme zájsť na niektoré z týchto 21 top miest v Slovenskom raji:
