There are very few places where you can set foot on the earth's mantle. But, here at the Tablelands in Gros Morne National Park, you can do just that. You can take a guided tour with Gros Morne Adventures -- in partnership with Parks Canada -- to hear a geological story half a billion years in the making. Or, explore it for yourself and get lost in awe at this colourful and unique landscape.
The Tablelands, Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland & Labrador (162)
This hiking trail was fun and easy. The audio tour app made it very interactive. We were able to download the app at the discovery center and we kept our location on to enable the app during our hike. Although it was windy, the hike was not at all challenging. It was an easy 4 km in and out. I definitely recommend it if you will be in the area.
How many chances will you get to walk on the earth's mantle rock?
They also have free guided tours on certain mornings. Please check with the Discovery center for the current schedule:

Gros Morne National Park - Newfoundland is EPIC!
Newfoundland's rugged beauty at its best, Gros Morne National Park! RV living has taken us many places, but this Canadian National Park is EPIC everywhere!
It's time guys! Exploring Newfoundland is under way via our 23 foot Class C Adventurer RV. We pick up here after arriving fresh off the ferry to Newfoundland. We headed to the town of Stephenville to get groceries and stock up before the park. It was such a beautiful drive, and it had quite a few pull over spots for potential boondocking as well! Not that we needed to sleep on the side of the road in the end however, because we got to camp near an old abandoned airport strip right outside of town. It appeared to be quite the popular spot, by many full time RV living Newfoundlanders even. Near the free camping spot the town also had a nice quality free sani dump station too. Weve found Newfoundland to be very RV friendly and the locals seem to enjoy it as well so that was great to find out. We were worried everything was going to cost more over here and be hard to come by but we can assure you, it has the same stuff you would find anywhere else (basically, with variances of course, like selling beer inside the gas stations was a first haha..).
After stocking up and enjoying Stephenville it was time to adventure into Canada's Gros Morne National Park. It is so, so beautiful. Huge fjords, the Earth's mantle exposed, moose, pitcher plants, harbor communities, the picture perfect nature views were unreal. Everywhere was panoramically beautiful. We spent the first night of arriving in the national park area just outside of the boundaries in the town of Bonne Point. It was such a cute town, and was located near the Gros Morne discovery center, and the start of our hike we wanted to do the next day.
The discovery center was such a great place to head BEFORE doing the hike, as it gave us some much needed info of the sceneries. We learned about the Earth's mantle, Newfoundland's moose, the pitcher plant, and other odds and ends which was perfect since we actually saw a moose in the distance, the pitcher plants and all the other beauties. The discovery centers parking wasn't super huge for RVs but we just parked slightly lower in the dirt lot employees normally use it seems.
From the Discovery center, we started the Big Lookout hike too. It took roughly 2.5 hours I would saw and was well worth it. It provided all the most amazing views of the national parks diversity up above it all. The pitcher plants up there are Newfoundland's provincial flower and are common at the top and can be seen from the boardwalks. This hike is a definite recommend. We could even see the Tablelands, which is where we'll pick up next RV travel vlog with you guys.
So stay tuned for some pretty epic drone footage of a cute Newfoundland town, the Earth's mantle raw and exposed and much more Newfie fun with us. Thanks for being here friends.

GGC - 26 - Tablelands Trail in Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland
Part 22 of our road trip across Northern Quebec and Eastern Canada. We drove through Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland and Labrador, and went for a hike on the Tablelands Trail. The Tablelands is an area of desert like rocky hills which were formed several hundred million years ago when plate tectonics forced the earth's mantle up through the crust. An educational experience with gorgeous views.
Great Canadian Parks #3- Gros Morne National Park, Nfld
On the shores of Newfoundland, this park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has some of the most spectacularly beautiful vistas in all of Canada. Woodland Caribou traditionally inhabit the highland of the interior but in recent years, have been migrating down to the coast. Human history in this region goes back 9,000 years

Hiking the Tablelands Gros Morne National Park
Trout River Bowl, Tablelands, Gros Morne National Park in Western Newfoundland. This hike is challenging, scenic and peaceful. It is like hiking any above tree line trail in Western Canada with one advantage, there is no forest to travel through. Very few people actually travel up this trail (I saw 3 people) as it isn't well marked and you scramble over boulders for 2.5hrs. When you reach the summit it is flat, flat, flat. You really appreciate the regions name Tablelands. The 360 view includes Bonne Bay, Gros Morne Mountain and the Gulf of St. Laurence.
Tablelands Hike, Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland 2018.
On our recent trip to Newfoundland, we took in this lovely hike to explore the exposed Earths Mantle. Felt like we were on Mars with iron enhanced rocks everywhere.
June 2018.
Used our 360 camera for over capture and our Canon 80d for the HDR shots.
Tablelands - Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
Step onto the earth's mantle, during your next visit to Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Tablelands are a significant geological feature which have attracted geologists, tourists and locals alike. It is thought that during a plate collision several hundred million years ago, the Tablelands originated in the earth's mantle and was forced up from the depths.

We Walked on the Earth's Mantle! Tablelands, Gros Morne National Park, NFLD Canada
Aug 2017 - Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland Canada is home to a geological wonder that can only be experienced in a very few places in the world. The Earth's mantle came to surface when the continents collided rendering this area of the park virtually ungrowable. Only a very select few hearty plants can grow in this nutrient devoid soil. When we hiked through this beautiful place we felt like we were in a foreign country where deserts abound...not the lush, thickly wooded province we arrived in. It was quite the experience!

CANADA TREK: LONG RANGE TRAVERSE, NEWFOUNDLAND
Trekking through Canada's Newfoundland, in the Gros Morne National Park, was one of the biggest challenges of my life - I pushed my body and mind to the limit, hiking for four days up gorges and through rugged terrain, and camping out in the wilderness each night. It was also one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and I came out of it a new (read: stronger) woman. Come along for the ride to see all the highlights and the insanely picturesque scenery. And stay tuned for my next fortnightly adventure!
Gros Morne
Gros Morne National Park is a place where the sights, sounds, and sense of wonder can easily leave you breathless. It’s an inspiring land, and a far departure from the world that brought you there in the first place. Words simply do not do it justice.
