WHITSTABLE'S LOST PUBS
The many Public Houses and Hotels in Whitstable once provided a wide range of establishments catering for a varied range of clientele. The Bear and Key Hotel was probably the largest and was used by the more prosperous section of the community. The working men were more likely to spend their evenings in one of the single room 'Beer Houses', often the front room of one of the smaller dwellings, which provided a single barrel of beer and a few chairs.
Over the years the number of Pubs has dwindled, some due to enemy action, to increasing property values and many to the change in social habits.
This video, which is based on the book 'Ales and Tales', records the fate of a few of the once popular establishments.

25th of every month journal 05
I decided to record myself every month because I haven't done anything like it before and I'd like to see how my voice, hair and other things change over time. I can't see the changes other people see on me, so it'd be a cool thing. Kinda like a timeline. So, bear with me, I'm not really a vlogger, but just a curious guy with a youtube account.

Whitstable and Herne Bay, 1950's - Film 17906
Amateur home movie.
Whitstable and Herne Bay, Kent. Shots of the Canterbury - Whitstable railway (which was closed in 1953). Steam engines and rail buildings. Some phantom ride from the cab of the train (but quite shaky) of surrounding countryside, and passing through towns. Static shots of the rail lines and a steam train emerging from a tunnel, Shots of the last days of the Canterbury - Whitstable line as crowds gather to see off the last train, pulled by locomotive 31010, an SECR H class. Good railway and train general views including operating the points (manually, by lever), platforms, trains, track. Shots of trains with the engine in between carriages moving along the track and through countryside (locomotive 30053). Vehicles travel along a main road (perhaps an A road) in the countryside. A small boy with blonde hair stands with his back to the camera and watches a steam train pass on the other side of the road. The little boy waves his arms. Static shot of a signal. The boy points at the engine. Nice shots of the miniature steam railway on the old Herne Bay pier. A sign reads Modeltown Station. The driver sits astride the engine, and the passengers are in a row on the carriages behind. Close up of the young blonde boy (with a hanky on his head) sitting on a woman's lap. An older man stands to one side and looks on at the train.

A Voice For Whitstable
Liberal Democrat councillors want Whitstable to have it's own council. So voting Liberal Democrat on May 5th is voting to Give Whitstable a Voice.
The last 6 years have been disasterous for Whitstable. The Conservatives have closed Whitstable Visitor Information Centre, closed the local council offices, cut funding for vital services, taken away the free recycling sacks we need to recycle effectively, let our infrastructure deteriorate - and ignored local residents at every turn.
At the last council elections the Conservatives won 29 seats, Liberal Democrats won 19 and Labour got just 2 - and at the last General Election in this constituency the Lib Dems got more than twice as many votes as Labour.
The City Council elections on May the 5th will be a two horse race between the Conservatives and the Lib Dems. It's up to you!

I have fallen in love with Whitstable
If anyone wants to buy Joannes song you can buy it on itunes here is the link
I first went to Whitstable with my. girlfriend Joanne and I loved it. I have been back 3 may 4 tomes since then and the more times I go the harder it gets for me to come back to London I have now made a promise to myself that I will retire there one day I don't really know when that will be but I am going to spend my last days on earth in Whitstable it is beautiful and I love the place
Update on this video just to clarify when I start talking about the high street I am not actually in the high street I start talking about the high street in in a street called Horsebrige road I then turn onto or into Harbour street and according to Google maps is the B2205 abd at that junction where you can see The Duke of Cumberland Hotel the small road or street what ever you want to call it is called Harbour street but if you turn the other way away from The Duke of Cumberland Hotel then you are going down the high street. I was not aware of any of this at the time of my filming my little video to me at that time it was all just one high street.
