Travel website highlights Taiwan’s presidential office
Taiwan’s presidential office was listed on a travel website that specializes in describing unusual sights around the world. Taiwan episode 15 - Kinmen Jinsha township
Continuing the third day visit of Kinmen, this time in the east part of the island. Visiting an old village, with a lot of urbex since most of it is in ruins, and encountering a cinema crew that will block us to visit an important place of the village.

大溪木藝之光
大溪木藝產業是桃園的人文藝術亮點，而「協大木器行」的故事則是亮點背後的歷史脈絡和前瞻希望。
協大木器行由業界尊稱「阿維司」的李阿維創立，生產傳統漢式神桌、太師椅、屏風、仿唐風的古典家具，從1970年代到1980年代末期，二十年盛世跟著大溪木藝產業起飛。阿維司80年歲月，長達67年與木為伍，正是這樣的匠司風範造就風雲盛世。
目前接掌父親李阿維事業的李炳榮先生回顧當年往事：「木器製作需要木工、鑿花工、漆工三組藝匠同心協力，取名協大的意涵在此。」歷經兩代，協大木器行一直在店內自設工廠，十幾位資深師傅各有專長、分工合作，整合式的組織形式經營不僅保有充足人力，也讓技藝得以發揮。
協大木器行於2000年受故宮博物院委託，仿製中國宋代傢俱展出，精湛工藝備受讚譽。2010年獲桃園市政府登錄「傳統工藝類」文化資產，這個木藝桂冠實至名歸。
The Pride of Daxi Woodworking Art
The woodworking industry of Daxi is the highlight of Taoyuan's cultural arts. Its visionary hopes and flow of history could be told by the story of Hsieh-Ta Woodcraft Shop.
The shop was established by Li, A-Wei, or A-Wei Su revered by the industry. The shop manufactures traditional Chinese altar tables, imperial tutor styled arm chairs, folding screens, and Tang dynasty-styled furniture. From 1970s to late 1980s, its 20-year success blossomed along with Daxi's woodworking industry. Throughout the 80-year life of A-Wei Su, there were 67 years that was devoted to woodworking. It was such craftsmanship that built its era of glory.
The current owner, Li, Ping-Jung, son of Li, A-Wei, recalled, The process of woodworking involves 3 groups of artisans—the woodworkers, the woodcarvers and the lacquer painters. All three must cooperate with one another. That is why the shop was named Hsieh (cooperate) Ta (giant). For both generations, Hsieh-Ta Woodcraft Shop boasts an on-site factory with a dozen of experienced masters, working collaboratively in various areas of expertise. The integrated organization enables a sufficient work force and the space for artistic techniques.
Commissioned by National Palace Museum in 2000, the shop manufactured replicate furniture of China's Song Dynasty for exhibition. The artworks were highly praised for the exquisite crafts. In 2010, the shop was registered as a cultural heritage in the genre of traditional crafts by Taoyuan City Government. For the laureate of wood art, it is a well-deserved honor.

West Lake Resortopia 21km (Taiwan)
For this race we drove 50 minutes to San-yi (famous for furniture-making) in Taiwan. It was right off the highway and we found easy parking in the lot of the West Lake Resortopia parking lot. It was raining, so we were lucky to find that the bad-check area was in a building where we could hangout until the start. The plan was for my friend to get a PR in the half marathon...
He did it and placed in the top 20 of his age group! Be forewarned: this race has lots of elevation. We had to walk some of the steeper hills, in fact, our walking stride was beating many of those who were running!
After the race we enjoyed the fair-like atmosphere and used our race pack coupons to get noodles and orange juice. If it hadn't been raining we might have explored more of the park area. We decided to head home and got back to Changhua before noon!

Mr. Speaker, Canadians and the people of Taiwan share many things in common, including democracy, freedom and the rule of law.
As head of the Canada-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group, and on behalf of Canadians everywhere, I take great pleasure in wishing Taiwan a very prosperous and successful 103rd birthday on October 10.
There is a great personal friendship that has arisen between the peoples of Taiwan and Canada. I know this well, having lived in Taiwan for 10 years. Taiwan is where I met my wife Donna, and where our children spent three months in elementary school learning Mandarin, a language that I love.
I know all members will join me in welcoming Taiwan's new senior representatives of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada, representative Bruce Linghu in Ottawa and director-general William Heng-sheng Chuang in Vancouver.
I look forward to the resumption of the Terry Fox Run in Taiwan next month, thanks to the support of Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou and our parliamentary friendship group.
