BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA WEEKEND ROAD TRIP FROM CHICAGO | TRAVEL VLOG & SCAVENGER HUNT
This month, I was so excited to partner with Visit Bloomington to showcase the city of Bloomington, IN - home of my alma mater Indiana University - by taking a fun weekend getaway from Chicago.
In this video, my husband and I hit the road after work on a Friday in mid-May, and journeyed four hours south (okay, five hours because of Friday traffic) to the city where we met as college freshmen.
As always, a return to Bloomington is a trip down memory lane. The city has changed and blossomed so much since we met there in 2006, and it’s exciting to see its growth every time we return!
For this particular adventure, we got to follow a scavenger hunt list of quintessentially fun Bloomington hotspots, courtesy of my partnership with Visit Bloomington. As part of our enthusiasm for B-town, we aimed to visit as many as possible over our two day trip!
I hope this video provides an entertaining overview of the variety of fun destinations and activities in Bloomington, and entices you to consider it for an easy weekend getaway!

- Although Hawaii seems like such a far away and exotic land, the reality is that this beautiful state is one of America’s hottest tourist destinations. Many people from around the world, and from around the USA, pick Hawaii as a vacation destination because there you can find everything and anything you would ever desire.
- New York City is without a doubt one of the best and most impressive cities in the world, too many people, it is THE best city, plain and simple, end of the story. There is so much to do when visiting New York City.
- What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas right? Well, this is one secret that the cat let out of the bag. Don’t bother running up and down the strip looking for something to eat, The Grand Canal Shoppes have some of the best options you can think of.
- Located in Bloomington Minnesota lies the biggest shopping mall in America. Gentlefolk, I present to you The Mall of America. This mall has so much inside of it we would need a whole other video just to go over everything you can do at this mall. You can ride a rollercoaster, play mini golf, attend a live concert, create your own crayon color, go bowling, get lost in a mirror maze, there’s zip lining and you can even drive go-carts.

Campus Candy Opens State College, Pennsylvania Location
STATE COLLEGE, PENNSYLVANIA (Mar 3, 2011) — While college students attending Penn State University (PSU) were gearing up for the annual State Patty's Day celebration over the weekend, Campus Candy associates were working hard behind the scenes to ready their newest location in downtown State College, Penn. for its blowout grand opening bash. Word of the new confectionary spread virally through the collegiate campus. On Friday afternoon, a mob of students stood outside of 346 E. College Ave awaiting the doors of Campus Candy to finally swing open so they could sate their sugary cravings.
Surpassed perhaps only by their affinity for cheap beer, PSU students graciously welcomed the new Campus Candy store and eagerly bolstered their glucose levels by feasting on a wide spectrum of delectable treats. Stockpiled with over 500 different varieties of candy, the store offers patrons seeking more traditional fare with favorites like Hershey's Kisses and Sour Patch Kids while simultaneously catering to the more adventurous consumer with sweets like clodhoppers, a crunchy, chocolate-covered graham cluster, or gummies of every shape, size, and flavor including race cars, sharks, and even fried eggs! For those craving something more than just candy, the store also serves up frozen yogurt (fro-yo) made fresh with new flavors daily. In addition, the elliptical-shaped candy heaven transforms into a personal frozen yogurt topping bar, which customers will find to be the real cherry on top.
As co-storeowner Mark Tarnofsky greeted mobs of PSU candy fiends inside, he reiterated this Campus Candy location is the first to carry Dream Factory products, an exclusive line of Cheesecake Factory desserts. That's right, on top of what seems to be a never-ending array of confections and fresh frozen yogurt, the store also boasts a line of cheesecake and cupcake products. Asked to comment upon the new store's successful debut, co-owner Jason Tynan says, This is just the beginning. The level of excitement that students are exuding for our Cheesecake Factory products is unbelievable! He also notes that Campus Candy has had a long-held desire to sell baked goods in conjunction with its candy products, but waited until we were positive we had exactly the right fit. With the Dream Factory line, I am confident we achieved just that, and we will continue to roll out the line at our other stores during the month of March.
While students drooled over the decadent chocolates, gooey gummies, and savory jelly beans, they toted bags of candy to store in their dormitory candy caches. As they gleefully rushed to check-out, customers were invited to tap their contact information into Apple iPads at the register and will receive free frozen yogurt on their birthday, as well as other sweet deals! When asked for a comment on her Campus Candy experience, eager shopper Katie Davis looked around, and struggling to find the right words to describe the incredibly vast selection, exclaimed, This is the coolest store I've ever been in!

Sisters Camelot Canvass Union Picket at Harriet Brewery
Sisters Camelot Canvas Union pickets at Harriet Brewery, the union is not recognized by SC management collective, after striking for more than a year. The canvassers are members of Twin Cities Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) headquartered across the street. Some from other unions joined the picket in support, with AFSCME, CWA & Teamsters locals backing the boycott of Sisters Camelot.

Harriet Brewing and Tap Room is holding a SCAB FUNDRAISER for Sisters Camelot, a business that the IWW has been striking for over a year, through the self-organized Sisters Camelot Canvass Union (SCCU).
Sisters Camelot fired one of these workers on th the IWW on March 4th, 2013. Since then, the workers have been on strike. The National Labor Relations Board has consistently ruled in favor of the striking workers, and Sisters Camelot responded with ever-more-embarrassing tactics: allowing a notoriously misogynistic union-busting lawyer, John Hauge, to represent them pro bono, and even encouraging an attack on IWW members on May Day (of all days, they attack us on a day memorializing the fight for the 8-hour day!).
The IWW has called for a Complete Boycott.
The following unions have signed solidarity statements and pledged to encourage and enforce the boycott: AFSCME 34, AFSCME 3800, CWA 7250, and TEAMSTERS 638. The Twin Cities General Defense Committee has also condemned the Sisters Camelot Collective and thrown their full solidarity to the striking workers.
These striking workers have endured over a year of precarious existence, living with extremely few means, all as a result of the Sisters Camelot collective and their allies engaging in classic capitalist union busting techniques.
These workers provided approximately 95% of the Sisters Camelot funding base, as canvassers. They are on strike. Supporting a fundraiser is SCAB WORK.
The IWW has always enjoyed the Harriet Brewing Tap Room. Immediately across from our office, we have supported it and been customers since day one.
We assumed that this error was merely that - an error made without knowledge and in good faith. We assumed that after we reached out to the manager and owner and explained the situation, they would cancel the event.
But for the past two weeks, through emails, documents dropped off at the tap room, and many many phone calls, the management of the Tap Room has refused to respond.
We went in one last time on Thursday, and explained that if they did not cancel the fundraiser, we would picket, and that this picket would hurt their business. This is, after all, the intent of any picket. We told them we didn't want this to happen, especially to the workers at the brewery, but that we have to look out for our Fellow Workers in the union first and foremost. We practically begged them to cancel this event.
But they haven't.

Capital Beer: A Heady History of Brewing in Washington, D.C.
Washington Brewery–the city’s first brewery–opened in 1796. Brewer barons like Christian Heurich and Albert Carry dominated the taps of city saloons until production ground to a halt with Prohibition. Only Heurich survived, and when the venerable institution closed in 1956, Washington, DC, was without a brewery for 55 years. Author and beer scholar Garrett Peck taps this history while introducing readers to the bold new brewers leading the capital’s recent craft beer revival. A book signing will follow the program.
