Hunter Valley Wine Tasting Tour from Sydney. Short Commentary and Review
Support Prize Wines! Check out our ebook: Hunter Valley Wine Tasting Tour from Sydney visiting Savannah Estate, Tempus Two, Blueberry Hill, Hermitage Cellars and James Estate. Commentary and on the spot reports from the wine country and gourmet food area. Also video of some of the scenery of the wine region through the window of the bus. Great short video to give you an idea as to what a wine tasting trip to the Hunter Valley is like. Hope you find it useful.
I met some awesome people on the bus from Australia, USA, UK and China and had a great time and bought some great bottles of wine including Riesling, Shiraz, Sangiovese, Botrytis Semillon, Chardonnay and Vitai. Not to mention all the glasses of Moscato, Sauvignon Blanc, non vintage blancs, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Port, Muscat and other glass or two of sparkling wine I got to try. Just about every winery had a wine club to join with wine plans available too. Lots of things to see and do. It was a great way to celebrate my birthday!
Welcome to Prize Wines. A sporadic video blog about the wines I'm drinking now.
Please bear with me as I approach this from a casual wine drinker background. I'm not a wine grower. I'm a social wine drinker. So my description or off the cuff comments may not cover all the nuances of the wine. If you'd like to add more to my description of a particular wine, especially if you're the wine grower, distributor or retailer please feel free to comment below.

This review may not reflect the reviews of other wine drinkers and wine organisations I may be associated with and are mine alone.

Thank you for watching my wine reviews.
I've received many fantastic and appreciated comments from people all around that have found the videos useful and I have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of people watching them (thank you, thank you very much), so in 2015 I will return with more wine review videos.
If you are a wine producer and would like me to review your wine for free, please click on 'about' on my channel and send me a message. I'll email you the address to post the wine to as soon as possible. If you find the video useful you are welcome to use it on your website. Videos are recorded with a Samsung Galaxy Note II mobile and are completely unscripted.
I cannot guarantee that I will be able to review every bottle of wine I receive but I will endeavour to do so. If your wine tastes great, it'll definitely get a review. If it doesn't, I would not wish to upload the video in case I was just unlucky enough to get a bad bottle, or there was some bottle shock in delivery, or it had been affected by the heat.
I'm not a sommelier so, in that sense, you can receive down-to-earth reviews from the point of view of a real customer who just loves wine.
If you're an enjoyer of fine wines like me and you like these videos and would like to contribute in some way, feel free to leave a comment below on what your favourite wine is like. If you're interested in supporting the creation of future videos, please consider buying our ebook: Secret Sydney Bars Walking Tour Guide 2014: A Guide to Finding Over 37 Interesting, Unique and Hidden Bars in Sydney City, from The Rocks to City Centre. It's available on Amazon for Kindle. You can find out more about it here: (We make about 25c from every sale so every little bit helps!)

I also now have a Face Book page on wine. Early days yet but if you could 'like' it, that would be very much appreciated.

What is the Best beer in Australia?
Are you looking for Australia's best beer? We have done the hard work for you by researching the Great Australian Beer Spectacular (GABs for short) hottest 100 beers, and found one of the HIGHEST Ranking craft beers in AUSTRALIA! BentSpoke Brewing Co has won several awards for excellence and flavour! The GABS Hottest 100 Aussie Craft Beers is a people's choice award, and BentSpoke has taken many trophies back to Canberra, proving to be one of AUSTRALIAS FAVOURITE BEERS, and indeed the BEST BEER IN AUSTRALIA!
We found out why the beer tastes so good when we travelled to the Nation's Capital, and met with Owner and head brewer Richard Watkins. Rich is a twice crowned Australian Champion Brewer and has been brewing professionally for 20 years!
BentSpoke Brewing Co is the brainchild of Champion Australian brewer Richard Watkins and Tracy Margrain. The pair travelled the world drawing inspiration for their ideal brewpub. Their brewpub, BentSpoke, is located in the city centre's Braddon, a suburb filled with delicious food and friendly faces.
The food at the brewpub was AMAZING, we have been back several times to enjoy a bowl of Nachos, and their delicious crab burgers! Cindy and I also enjoy getting the beer tasting trays, a great way to try a selection of beers!
Another reason we love BentSpoke is they have a clear community focus. Local farmers collect spent grain from the brewery as feed for their livestock and in return, some provide us with produce for use in BentSpoke's kitchen. Also, their choice to use cans ensures that the beer arrives at you in the best possible condition, and also the accumulated energy savings of recycling aluminium is 96% (compared to a mere 26.5% for glass), they are significantly lighter to transport, they chill down quicker, and they are far more friendly in the great outdoors both to pack in and out, and they won't leave broken glass at your favourite river/beach/mountain.
The BentSpoke Cannery is located in AUSTRALIA's capital city, CANBERRA or should I say canBEERa!

Riedel Performance Range Red Wine Glasses Review
Late in 2018, in London, we had the privilege (that we paid for!) of joining Maximillian Riedel for the launch of their latest varietal-specific wine glasses. The Performance Range.
This is the third of three videos, reviewing two of the red wine glasses in the range. We have a Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot glass and a Pinot Noir glass. They both make the wine better than a normal glass - have a watch to find out why!

Australian Wine Tasting at Cafe Maxx
This event is our kickoff for the 2013 Wine Tasting series at Cafe Maxx, so from here till the end of November we will be hosting a wine tasting at Cafe Maxx on every other Wednesday night at 6:30pm.
Our world-wide wine tour will begin this year in one of my favorite wine producing countries, Australia.
The state of the Australian wine industry could be in dire straits if it were not for a few of its leading brands still making fine progress not only in quality but in sales from other countries- like China. The Chinese have a love affair with Penfolds and to the extent that they have a wine named Binfolds which is wildly popular in China.
The US market has been incredibly soft with high end Australian wines but the value end of the marketplace is still showing strong growth here and even though the plethora of $50+ wines from Australia are no longer available, there is still a ton of choices in the $15-$25 price range like these that we are showing tonight and we also have a few top level wines to show you that Australia is among the world's leading wine producers today in terms of quality also.
Treasury Wine Estates Portfolio produces 1/3 of all the wine that is exported from Australian and they cover the entire range of wines from everyday grocery store brands like the Little Penguin to the most prestigious wine made in all of the land down under- Penfolds Grange. Although we will not be pouring Grange tonight, we have an annual event where we showcase the new release of Penfolds Grange- this year it is Friday July 20th.
Tonight we will taste through a range of wines from Treasury Wine Estates Portfolio to show the diversity of this portfolio and how they really do cover all the bases when it comes to price, quality and value. The line-up starts with one of the most exciting white varietals made in Australia today, Riesling from the cool Adelaide Hills appellation and ends with one of my favorite wines from this portfolio, Grange's alter Ego, Penfolds St. Henri Shiraz. Chef Oliver Saucy will be sending out a few small courses to accompany the tasting wines. The fee for this event is $35 + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463.

Riedel Tasting Glass - How To Taste Wine
Riedel Tasting Glass - How To Taste Wine -
At the VP wine store we, as you can imagine, taste a lot of wines - it's one of our favorite things to do.
In this video I introduce you to the Riedel Tasting Glass, used by wine enthusiasts, and why this strange looking glass is used for tasting wine.
For this demonstration I taste the Verismo Wines Stretto - a Chardonnay from Napa Valley. This is a high quality white wine that usually retails for around $37 but we have it in our store for just $17.95.
You can see the Stretto here:-
Enjoy this Riedel Tasting Glass video and enjoy the Stretto.
