Follow us on our adventure through England, Scotland, and Ireland! Find our complete itinerary, what we would have done differentely, and #nutritarian finds below.
TRAVEL ITINERARY:
1. Fly to LONDON via Norwegian Air, taxi to Notting Hill. 3 nights at an air bnb in London
2. Train to SCOTLAND — London Kings Cross – Edinburgh train really easy and comfortable -1 night in Edinburgh at Harry Potter airbnb, awesome experience - great host who held our bags so we could have 2 full days in Edinburgh
*definitely could have done another night in Edinburgh- one of our favorite places
3. Left around 4 pm, right before the rental car place closes to drive -yes, on the left hand side- to Fort William.
-- We stopped at The Three Sisters Mountain on the way, which was beautiful.
-- We realized we didn't have a hotel for Fort William and spontaneously booked one right before we lost wifi and got really lucky with a last minute open room at the grange in Fort William- amazinggg B&B - grangefortwilliam.com
4. We drove from Fort William to Inverness and made some stops along the way: Ben Nevis Mountain and afternoon tea at Inverlochy Castle.. We wish we got to see isle of sky in Scotland but we couldn’t fit it all!
5. We spent 1 night in Inverness and woke up early to catch a flight from Inverness to Dublin, Ireland via Logan Air
****wouldn’t have done this if booked it again *** We wanted to go to the Cliffs of Moher, but would’ve gone straight to Shannon if we had to do it again to cut driving time.
6. Drive to Cliffs of Moher - must add this to your bucket list if you haven't been; best part of Ireland!
-- Cute town to get a snack on the way is Lahinch, we went to Dodi Cafe, which is close to the cliffs.
7. Drive from Cliffs of Moher back to DUBLIN - Hotel 7 was perfect - good location and made us steamed veggies one of the nights: hotel7dublin.com
8. Fly back to the states from Dublin via Aer Lingus
Things to do and food to eat:
LONDON - very easy to find vegan spots, but they tend to use a lot of oil / maple syrup / salt so beware of what you order!
Coffee shops and breakfast:
-- Amoret - matcha latte with coconut milk was so good
-- Urban barista near kensigton gardens - soaked oats breakfast was amazing!
-- Farm girl - cool drinks, a lot of them are date sweetened, sweet potato avocado toast good but ask for no additional oil

-- Went to Daylesford organic and picked up really chocolate banana oats and fruit for on the go-
Dinner:
-- Farmacy - vegan restaurant with great food loved everything we tried
-- The alchemist.. cool bar with some vegan options, but watch out for fried food. They use dry ice for their drinks so our tea came out smoking

-- Tower bridge
-- Hyde park
-- Vintage stores in Notting Hill
-- Sky Garden

#5: Inverness Airport Visit
Welcome to Olly’s Plane Spotting.
We visited Inverness Airport during our trip up north to watch East Kilbride play Inverness Caledonian Thistle, on what was a very quiet day in January, unfortunately the museum was closed so gives us an excuse to go back in the summer

Visitors to the Highlands were treated to a monster surprise when cruise tour experience, Loch Ness by Jacobite, took over the luggage carrousel at Inverness Airport.

Flying Manchester to Inverness via Heathrow. Pointless Trip(?) or quite literally the opposite?
I took a flight with British Airways in Club Europe from Manchester to Inverness via London Heathrow. Four different flight segments with plenty of food and drink, lounge access galore and relatively cheap. Why did I do it? Watch the video to find out.....
And please subscribe if you like my content. I would really appreciate some more followers. It’s a bit rough in places but everyone has to start somewhere ????

Inverness Airport in the Scottish highlands and the nearest Hotels and retail park
Inverness Airport is one of the smaller airports in the north of Scotland. Independent travellers show the locality and nearest hotels and retail park. The hotel and retail park are walking distance apart and the airport is approx. 6 miles. The easiest way to get to the airport would be by private taxi, minibus or uber. There is a bus stop at the retail park that could also be utilised but check the timetable.
A Guide to Railways in Scotland
All aboard! Travelling around Scotland has never been easier with the amount of trains, railway lines and flexible tickets on offer year-round across the country. Whether you want to get from A to B, start a new adventure or simply explore a new part of Scotland, trains are an easy, stress and hassle-free way to do it.
Our trains are fast, modern and often spacious, with most carriages featuring designated areas for your luggage, bikes, and some even allow animals – but make sure you check guidelines first. Railway lines in Scotland go pretty much everywhere, from the Scottish capital of Edinburgh to the ‘Highland capital’ of Inverness, from the cultural hub of Glasgow to the gems in the south or northwards along the west coast – there are plenty of routes that will make you fall in love with Scotland’s landscapes.
Our railway stations are easy to find and easy to navigate around. In the stations, look out for sign posts for more transport options, connecting journeys, transfers and more if you want to have an entirely car-free holiday.
If you hop aboard a train in Scotland, you can choose from standard travel to luxury 5-star experiences – it’s all up to you! Exploring Scotland by train is also a great and rewarding way to see some spectacular scenery as you sit back and relax. Train lines in Scotland often run through iconic landscapes and locations, giving you the perfect opportunity to witness them in all their glory.
Some of our most notable rail journeys are:
• West Highland Line – Starting in Glasgow, venture northwards along the coast to Oban, then inwards to Fort William and on to the lovely fishing port of Mallaig for a scenic journey through some picturesque landscapes.
• Borders Railway – if you love history, breathtaking landscapes and outdoor activities then this line is for you. Venture from Edinburgh to Tweedbank on board the Borders Railway for an awesome adventure.
• Strathspey line – Enjoy a stunning trip through the heart of the Highlands with a special journey aboard an old-fashioned steam train.
Here are some of our tops tips to make sure you have the best railway adventure:
Book in advance – buying tickets ahead of your journey saves time, guarantees your seat, and you can often find deals and discounts online.
Plan ahead – make sure you know your train times, seat reservations and any connecting routes so you don’t miss out.
Browse our website and itineraries for more inspiration and ideas for your perfect railway journey in Scotland.

2015 British Isles Trip
Family of five trip to the British Isles in 2015, September.
DAY 1: Landed at Gatwick midday. Spent the afternoon sight seeing and walking around London.
DAY 2: Harry Potter tour in the morning, walking around London in the afternoon. Nearly recovered from jet lag.
DAY 3: Left London in the morning via train to Bournemouth. Picked up rental car and then drove to West Bay/Jurassic Coast (where Broadchurch was filmed). Drove to Taunton to stay the night.
DAY 4: Left Taunton to make our way to Cardiff for the Doctor Who Experience. On the way there we met a nice family crabbing at Clevedon Beach. Popped on by Clevedon Hall, then Chepstow Castle in Wales. After lunch, let the kids burn off energy in the Caerleon Roman Amphitheatre. Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff Bay, and then checked out the celebration going on in Bay. Dinner and unexpected late night fireworks.
DAY 5: Walked to the other side of Cardiff for breakfast and exploring. Headed to Fishguard to drop off the car hire and catch a ferry to Ireland. Arrived, picked up new car hire, and checked into a hotel in Wexford. Travel day.
DAY 6: Drove toward Ennis where our hotel was and to see the Cliffs of Moher, our primary activity for that day.
DAY 7: Walked around Ennis in the morning looking at the sites like the Ennis Friary. Then drove towards Poulnabrone Dolmen. Stopped by the Caherconnell fort (caherconnell.com) and was amazed with the sheepdog demonstration. On to the Dolmen and the Burren. Afterwards headed to Dublin where we dropped off the car hire.
DAY 8: Woke up in Dublin and spent the day exploring the city on foot. Lots of different sites such as Dublinia, Christ Church Cathedral, Guinness and Jameson, Book of Kells, and let the kids get some playtime in at St. Patrick’s Park.
DAY 9: Still in Dublin for the morning. Played in St. Stephen’s Green before catching a train to Belfast. Switched to a local commuter train to take us to Larne where we stayed for the night.
DAY 10: Larne was an overnight stay to catch a ferry to Scotland. Arrived in Troone and then walked (AND walked!) to the local train station to take a train to Glasgow. Dropped our bags off at the hotel and then walked to the Glasgow Science Centre where the kids had a nice afternoon playing & learning.
DAY 11: Picked up our final car hire in Glasgow and then started to drive towards Fort William. On the way there we stopped at Doune Castle (who wouldn’t?!) and had a nice lunch in town. Kids are huge Monty Python fans and loved the tour. (Parents are also huge Outlander fans and loved it as well). The drive was fantastic. Stopped more than once just to take pictures. We stayed overnight in a lovely place in Ardgour.
DAY 12: Headed towards Fort William to do the Steall Gorge and Waterfall wall. The Scots are serious about their hill walks! After the walk, we headed towards the Isle of Skye. Stopped at Eileen Donan Castle to snap a quick pic before taking a walk at the Fairy Pools. Got a wee bit of Scottish weather that day! We did get some nice rainbows, however.
DAY 13: Left Portree to do the Quiraign Walk. Somehow we got off the designated path while trying to walk up the hill. Decided to follow everyone else and went until we reached a spot that was a bit too treacherous for our youngest. Maybe also our oldest (i.e. James). Took our time leaving Skye, making sure to stop at many sites along the way. Stopped at Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness on the way to Inverness. We were treated to an actual wedding that was going on that day.
DAY 14: First of a two night stay in Inverness. On the first day we had a private tour guide that took us to Clava Cairns, Culloden Moor, and Cawdor Castle and gardens. It was a very Outlander themed day!
DAY 15: Took the scenic route to Edinburgh through the Cairngorms Nation Park. Very lovely, if adventurous drive! Checked into our hotel and then spent the afternoon wondering around Edinburgh on foot. St. Giles’ Cathedral, Greyfriars Kirkyard, The Elephant House, and we explored some of Edinburgh Castle (among others!).
DAY 16: Explored Holyrood Park and Arthur’s Seat. The weather was great so we took our time on the walk. Even found some yummy wild berries to snack on. Left Edinburgh to head back to Glasgow. On the walk, we stopped to see the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel.
DAY 17: A bit of a travel day, we took the train to head back to London. Walked around and saw more sights in London that afternoon and evening. Tower of London, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and Piccadilly Circus among other attractions.
DAY 18: On our last day we met with family for lunch after a little more sight seeing. After that we took a train to the airport and headed back home via JFK.
