Show Girl (1946)
Titles read: SHOW GIRL. (Day in the life of a showgirl.)
London.
16-year-old Windmill Theatre showgirl Anita D'Ray is seen in her coat and headscarf, walking along the side of the the theatre and going in through the stage door. She speaks to the stage door manager and picks up her mail. Anita in rehearsals with other chorus girls. She can't quite get the steps so choreographer Joan Jay dances beside her to help her out. Head and shoulders shot of Anita in the shower with a turban on her head. C/U of shower head. Zip pan down to Anita's legs.
In the wardrobe department we see women sewing costumes for the girls. Anita tries on a sequinned number with a plunging neckline; designer Bobby Roper does the fitting. Another girl wears a peasant costume. Anita is seen eating in the canteen with other girls. Girls put on their costumes and fix their hair and makeup before going onstage. Lighting manager turns a lever in the wings.
Anita and the girls do a tap routine on stage. All the other girls wear tap shoes while Anita wears white sandals (strange). The girls dash about backstage. Anita tries to make a phone call in the corridor amid the noise. She then pops out to the shops, doing up her coat over her costume. She buys a marrow (?) at a market stall. Anita joins two other showgirls on the roof of the theatre for a spot of sunbathing.
Another shot of lighting man doing his stuff, then we see the girls in another tap routine (Anita still hasn't found her taps). Girls get changed in the dressing room; costume unzipped and falling to the floor around feet. Anita goes home and takes off her shoes then combs her hair. Dissolve into Anita in her nightie. She gets into bed (fully made up) and goes to sleep.
Notes: The doorman is Ben Fuller and Bobby is R.St.John Roper one of Britain's best costume designers in the costume department scene.

The Dana Historic Shrewsbury Street Names
Go to; and
The Dana Street name explained. Steps, path or street. (It is also the name of the Medieval Shrewsbury Prison.)
The Dana is one of the more intriguing Shrewsbury place names, especially for visitors! It starts as a walkway from Castle Street, continues round the Castle and across the railway, and then becomes a street skirting the Prison until it merges with Victoria Street. The Dana (pronounced ‘Danner’, not ‘Darner’) is named after Rev Edmund Dana (1739-1823), who was Vicar of Wroxeter, Eaton Constantine, Harley and Aston Botterell, all apparently at the same time!

Relative Values - backstage
Relative Values - backstage
Set in 1951 this classic Coward play examines the development of a new social order in England after World War II. The Dowager Countess of Marshwood faces a family crisis when her son proposes to marry an English-born Hollywood actress who, it is discovered, is the younger sister of her personal maid and friend, Moxie. To make matters worse the young starlette's ex-lover, the dashing Hollywood idol Don Lucas, arrives at Marshwood House to win back her heart.
Written with zest and vitality Relative Values showcases the best of Coward - razor sharp wit and dry dialogue whilst at the same time revealing the tenderness of a sincere friendship which bridges the divide of class and background.
