Chase Farm Hospital: Time capsule BBC London
A time capsule dating back 135 years has been discovered during the demolition of the old Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield - providing a unique insight into the late Victorian era.
The documents contained within the capsule – a glass jar - show evidence of what life would have been like in Victorian Britain when the original building was founded as the Chase Farm Hospital School.

The Wong Guy Shoe Shop: A 30-Year Time Capsule
When Wong Guy, an early resident of Gull Lake, decided to retire, he closed his shop doors, boarded up the building and brought an end to decades of work in the community. For the next three decades, that shop would remain closed, and untouched, serving as a time capsule to a man and his shop.
In 2013, the Town of Gull Lake decided to open the doors and see what was inside. What they found were boots still waiting to be picked up, retirement cards sitting on the counter, and a treasure trove of memories from the 1970s and earlier, all untouched by time.
Wong Guy himself was a fixture of Gull Lake for many years, having come from China at the age of only 13. Spending his time working on the west coast, he worked for a brief time for a British Gentry before coming to Gull Lake in 1917.
Upon his arrival, he began working for Mah Jim, one of the first Chinese residents of the community. Soon after he made his home in Gull Lake, the Spanish Flu broke out and Wong Guy began cooking at the old brick school when it was set up as an emergency hospital for those suffering from the flu. The need for a cook was great and the story goes that local men went to Mah Jim and said that if he didn’t provide a cook for the hospital, the café would be closed down. Wong Guy stepped forward and said he was not afraid and he would serve as cook.
In 1922, Wong Guy moved into a building and began operating a shoe and harness repair shop out of it. He would continue to operate out of there it was closed in 1979. Wong Guy would pass away in 1982.
Wong Guy was well-known to many generations of Gull Lake citizens, and he had a strong personality and gained a great deal of respect from those in the community. Speaking with his own blend of English and Chinese, he was always happy to speak to those who came into his shop.
During the Second World War, he would send money to his family in China, which was very important during the war with Japan. His wife stayed in China until her mother-in-law died and would finally come to Canada in her 60s to join her husband.
As was mentioned, in 2013 the Town of Gull Lake chose to open the doors of the Wong Guy Shoe Shop and venture inside. Beds were still made, cans were still on the shelves of the living quarters and the equipment, in need of some minor repairs, could still run. From old tins of shoe shine, to shoe laces, and many skates and boots still sitting on shelves, the building was made into the community’s second heritage building.
In 2014, several members of the community restored the shop, cleaned it up and got the machines running into time for the Harvest Festival. Hundreds of residents made their way through the building during the Festival, many reliving memories of walking in to talk to Wong Guy as he worked on their shoes.
The building is currently being restored by the Town of Gull Lake.

Dog poison found in Glasgow park was left there intentionally
Undercover SSPCA inspector reveals dog poison found in Glasgow park was left there intentionally
AN investigation has revealed that poison had been left in a Rutherglen park intentionally in a bid to hurt dogs.
The poison was discovered on January 6 in a 2ft by 2ft square at Overtoun Park's entrance.
The Scottish SPCA is now appealing for information after receiving two unrelated reports of poison being found.
The charity says the poison looked like slug pellets or rodenticide.
A spokesman said: Due to the amount and location of the poison found, it would suggest that it was intentionally put there to harm an animal.
An undercover inspector from the charity’s Special Investigations Unit added: “It looks like a whole canister was used and the council are confident that it was not them.
“There has previously been a report of a large pile of gelled gravy in the park but we can’t say for sure if it was poisoned.”
On the same day, the charity received a report of a white powder-like substance found in a garden in Stevenston, Ayrshire.
The owner believed that it was put there intentionally to target the dogs living in the property.
The undercover inspector added: “Dogs are usually very curious and will try to eat the poison.
I recently dealt with a report of a Jack Russell who congested a large amount of slug pellets and was extremely ill.
There is a concern poison is being laid on purpose.
“The poisoning of domestic animals is a huge issue and we deal with a large number of complaints regarding poisonings and they are incredibly difficult to solve due to the nature of the crime.”
chicken laced with a rodent poison had been found in in other Glasgow parks.Warnings were issued for dog walkers to be aware while in Queen's Park and Maxwell Park.
A young Jack Russell was rushed to the Pets 'n' Vets surgery at The Roundhouse Vet Hospital after consuming the poisoned-laced food.
We also reported how three dogs died of suspected poisoning within a few days of each other.
Much-loved Staffordshire bull terriers Diesel, Crystal and Buddha (above) died after eating what the family says they believe was chicken that had been laced with anti-freeze, which had been thrown into their back garden in Springburn.
Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.

Adventures - Scotland
During the 2 weeks I was in Scotland, I went on many different adventures. Our wonderful group of people went bike riding, hiking, and went to an inflatable water park. We laughed, played, and got eaten alive by bugs, but it was worth it.
