Transition Town Totnes: eating, drinking & zero waste shopping I Hubbub Vlog
Last year the Hubbub investigates team took to the road in an electric car to see how it fared on the 220 mile trip to Totnes. Whilst we were there we spent a few days exploring the seaside town of Totnes and meeting some of the local business owners who are helping make Totnes a sustainable Hub.
In this video meet them and find out how they are building a sustainable community. Huge thanks to all the businesses who chatted to us if you want to find out any more about them check out the links below.

One UK town begins printing its own money
Lewis, East Sussex, England, August 2008
1. Wide Shot Lewes and Castle
2. Medium shot Castle Gate
3. Close up archway
4. SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Oliver Dudok Van Heel, Lewes Pound Group
Lewes is a town that's been known for it's strong independent spirit. I mean it's probably no coincidence that Tom Paine, who was one of the great minds behind the American revolution, spent a lot of his key years in Lewes before going over to the States.
5. Wide shot Lewes High Street and roadworks
6. Medium Shot worker digging up foundations
7. Exterior shot Lewes Arms Pub
8. Shot of the Lewes Pound Group meeting pub garden
9. UPSOUND (ENGLISH) Oliver Dudok Van Heel
I got Rick's Discs today. He first thought I was trying to make money out of him. So where's the scam? And I said no, it's all voluntary and yes so he signed up as well.

12. SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Oliver Dudok Van Heel, Lewes Pound Group
The mechanism itself is very simple. The mechanism itself is probably comparable to a book token. It's just a token that has certain value that you can use in stores. Those stores can give it back as change or can trade it at a number of differing issue points. It's a very simple mechanism.
13. Shot of woman handing over money at till

15. wide shot group meeting
16. SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Councillor Susan Murray, The Lewes Pound
People can only spend it within local independent shops. When they look in their purse and see what money they've got hopefully they'll say..Mmmm I've got some Lewes Pounds. I really ought to think about where I can buy whatever it is I want in a shop that takes the local currency.
17. SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Olive Dudok Van Heel, The Lewes Pound
Promoting local trade means promoting local supply of goods and services. Therefore goods and services have to travel less far, so there is a reduced carbon footprint.
18. Shot of local salads in shop
19. Exterior shot Bill's the grocers.
20. Interior shot Bill's people looking at produce
21. Close up carrots pan down to red onions
22. SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Will Juba, Manager, Bill's
We try and source local produce, use local farms. And Lewes has got a very strong community feeling. So to have the pound, the Lewes pound you know, it really helps farmers producers and us. It basically ties in with our whole idea of sourcing locally.
23.Top shot shop
24. SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Magdalena Portman, local resident
Well I look forward to it. Thanks for letting me know. Where can I get hold of it? In my bank?
25. Shot of people at till
26. SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Sean O'Kane, local resident
It's a very good idea. If it stimulates the local economy, most of all it stimulates local produce coming into the economy, fantastic.
27. Exterior shot Harvey's Brewery
28. Shot of men going into a pub
29. Shot of pint of beer being drawn
30.SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Hamish Elder, Managing Director, Harvey's Brewery
Well anything that involves Lewes is automatically suited to Harvey's. We're a mainstay of the town. But more than that we're very into sustainability from the environmental point of view. We've got lots of environmental credentials, we keep our beer very local no more than 30 miles from Lewes for most of our beer.
31. Shot of change being taken from till
32. Shot of change being handed over
33. SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Oliver Dudok Van Heel, The Lewes Group
34. Shot of 10 note from1895
35. Shot of till being opened in pub
36. Shot of spinning globe with Hamish Elder drinking beer behind.

Microdat, the specialist brewing and packaging equipment manufacturer, has launched a new micro-brewhouse range, which is ideal for start-up brewers and breweries testing new products.
Captain Pigwash - Potbelly Brewery
The first of four taste test's of beer brewed by the potbelly brewery in Kettering Northamptonshire.
I am tasting this ahead of my visit to their brewery which will be making a new beer for the Nnesting festival in Northampton.
This was an excerlent porter and a chance to do a little research on porters that i may or may not have read properly as i say in the video that porters are made from choclait malt and not roasted malt but i have later read that some are made from Roasted malts as well.
I would like to add that the beer was not FLAT it was just lightly carbonated. this is how the brewery intends their beers to be and have to say it does suit their beers well. I was just caught of gaurd as have never had a beer in that style prior to enjoying this pint.
I would give this beer 7 / 10
To try this beer you can contact the brewery directly. Detail are on their website.
You can also try all their beers by visiting the nnestival in Northampton on the 6th & 7th July. see their website for more information.
