Tahr and Sambar Culls
With all the talk of culling Sambar and Tahr indiscriminately I think it is time to take a breath, check the facts, make decisions that will benefit everyone and everything involved long term. It is time to stand up and support the organisations doing their best to achieve an educated and experienced outcome.

This week in the world of cycling: the cyclocross season is nearly upon us, and we learned that for even the best it’s definitely time to start practising. Former junior World CX Champion Jens Dekker showed us how it’s not done in Melbourne. We also learned this week that a lot of you are indeed suffering from a quite severe addiction to cycling, but that it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Finally, we learnt that age appears to be no barrier to performance. At least, not when you’re Alejandro Valverde. At 38 years of age he became the 2nd oldest rider to win a stage of the Vuelta, taking stage 2 on Sunday.
Some sad news now from the cycling world, the legendary frame builder Dario Pegoretti has passed away at the age of 62. Pegoretti was a master of his art who both welded and painted his creations. He learnt his trade from Luigino Milani and he went on to pioneer the TIG welding process for bikes and worked in both steel and aluminium. Numerous professionals rode his frames including Marco Pantani, Mario Cipollini, Miguel Indurain and Stephen Roche.
Anyone who thinks that they might end up winning the Tour de France had better have some bland answers ready for when journalists ask seemingly innocuous questions. You don’t want to end up like Geraint Thomas. He accidentally seems to have called for helmet use to be compulsory for cyclists, the only answer that hit the headlines in an hour-long interview. Having then got slammed for it by angry fellow cyclists, he tried to backpedal, even using the hashtag calm down.

Hobart
Hobart (UK: /ˈhoʊbɑrt/) is the capital and most populous city of the Australian island state of Tasmania. Founded in 1804 as a penal colony, Hobart is Australia's second oldest capital city after Sydney, New South Wales. The city is located in the state's south-east on the estuary of the Derwent River, making it the most southern of Australia's capital cities, and its harbour forms the second-deepest natural port in the world.
In June 2013, the city had a greater area population of approximately 217,973. Its skyline is dominated by the 1,271-metre (4,170 ft) Mount Wellington. It is the financial and administrative heart of Tasmania, serving as the home port for both Australian and French Antarctic operations and acting as a major tourist hub, with over 1.19 million visitors in 2011/2012. The metropolitan area is often referred to as Greater Hobart, to differentiate it from the City of Hobart local government area.

Tasmania is promoted as the natural state, and A World Apart, Not A World Away owing to its large and relatively unspoiled natural environment. Almost 45% of Tasmania lies in reserves, national parks and World Heritage Sites. The island is 364 kilometres (226 mi) long from its northernmost to its southernmost points, and 306 kilometres (190 mi) from east to west.
