Tulsk Priory - county Roscommon - Ireland
Tulsk Priory. Just a place i foudn on the side of the road along my adventures. You can puase it on the information board there and read all about it, other than that im going to like always walk around it and give my own stuipid commentary haha. Enjoy!
Information:
Tulsk priory was founded in 1448 as a Dominican House. It would have had a commuity of four to six friars and relied for the most part on the support of its local patrons and the descendants of the founding family. The founder is disputed, but was either a member of the MacDowell family, or Felim, son of Felim Clery O'Conor. By 1578, the friars had moved on from Tulsk, apparently never to return. Today the standing remains of the priory comprise a nave, transept and a tower house. The nave would have been the main body of the church. The transept or side aisle would have been added later. There is evidence to suggest there was a cloister to the north of the priory. The tower house was likely to have been a fortification added to the defunct priory by English government troops in the late sixteenth century to protect a small English garrison.
In recent years it became apparent that Tulsk Priory was at high risk of collapse, in particular the highest sections of the tower house. In 2013 major conservation works were carried out on Tulsk priory, as an action of the County Roscommon Heritage Plan 2012-2016.

Two day Autocross event, Tulsk Ireland
Published on Thursday 11 August 2011 10:29
Midland Motor Club is hosting a two day Autocross event this weekend. The venue this year has changed location and will take place in Tulsk Co. Roscommon on the 13th & 14th of August next.
This is Round 4 of the Midland Motor Club Clubman Championship sponsored by Johnston Toy town Longford. This event is recognised nationally as Round 8 of the National Autocross Championship supported again by main sponsors D & B Windows New Ross Co. Wexford. The event will bring competitors from all over the country to Tulsk to compete in this fantastic event, spectators can expect to see local and national competitors battle it out over the grass surface course using their skills in car control against the clock negotiating around the course.
There are two types of Autocross events; those held on a grass surface and those that take place on a loose surface; e.g. dirt tracks or quarries. Midland Motor Club Autocross is a grass surface event and the weekends schedule will start off with Mechanical Scrutiny on Saturday at 12:00 noon where each car will be checked by a Motorsport Ireland appointed scrutineer to make sure each car and competitor meets the regulations, safety requirements and equipment standards as set out by the governing body Motorsport Ireland. Motorsport Ireland (MI) is the National Governing Body for four-wheeled Motorsport in Ireland. MI is affiliated to the supreme authority for world Motorsport, which is the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) based in Geneva and Paris.
The track has been specially designed to suit the field layout and will be marked out by Midland Motor Club officials on Saturday morning. The track will be marked with flags and arrows where competitors will compete individually against the clock with one practice run and three timed runs. The best time will count. A penalty of 5 seconds will be incurred for striking or passing on the wrong side of a standing Red marker flag. Marshals and event officials including Motorsport Ireland official will oversee proceedings on both days.
This year's event has some surprises with the return of the Midget Cars taking part in the event on Sunday. This promises to be very exciting because Midget Car Racing is a form of racing involving cars of smaller dimensions than normal. In this part of the event the Midget Cars will race against each other on the track as opposed to the other Autocross cars that race against the clock. The first Midget Car Races were held as far back as 1936 with the present day machines being derived from a type of vehicle known commonly in the USA as a Bantam Car. These cars were quickly adopted initially in Ireland by a group of enthusiasts in Wicklow who raced them on grass. This format is still in use today. Midget Car Racing is very much a family orientated branch of the sport and is a very good and economical way to learn the concept of car control on slippery surfaces. Our next surprise of the weekend is special guest Tim McNulty. Tim who has relatives in Tulsk Co. Roscommon is well known both on the national and international circuit as a top Tarmac Rally driver. Tim with co-driver Paul Keily currently leads the Dunlop National Rally Championship with 80 points in their Subaru Impreza WRC S12B after four impressive wins in the championship so far this year. Good luck Tim and Paul in the next round. Tim will switch from tarmac to grass this weekend and tryout the course in a Honda Civic provided by local man Joe Lenehan.
Midland Motor Club(MMC) officials for this event are Gerry Kelly, Clerk of the Course, Joe Lenehan, Assistant Clerk of the Course, Sean Wallace, MMC Steward, Event Secretary Karen Kelly, Scrutiny Jimmy Halligan and Motorsport Ireland Steward John Duffy. As always marshals are required and anyone interested in helping out please contact the club officials above for details and training.

NOOIT
