Bristol Lost Underground Waterways
I got myself a s i b boat in order to be able to explore some some of those hard to get to places. I thought a good place to start would be Bristol Underground tunnel network of waterways and lost rivers which are now covered up by the city streets. Some of these tunnels used to be access ways to get goods into the town Centre and a rumoured to be be slave Tunnels and also no pirate smuggler tunnels. The main tunnel we're looking at has been explored by some other people in the past but we are hoping to go beyond and the point that a lot of people stop out and explore into the distant reaches beneath Bristol in future videos.
Exclusive behind the scenes tour of the tunnels underneath Bristol's Temple Meads
To celebrate the 175th anniversary of the first train journey from Bristol Temple Meads, a unique behind-the-scenes tour of the train station and ss Great Britain has been launched, exploring the lasting achievements of an engineering great.
The Brunel tour begins in Temple Meads taking in the station's secret passages, disused air raid shelters and cavernous wine cellars as well as the offices where Brunel worked. Then it's a short ferry trip to the ss great Britain for a guided tour of the ship by Mr Brunel.
Discovering Bristol’s Pirate Past - Bristol Quayside
We have visited Bristol in the South West of England a number of times and despite being a frequent visitor to the city it is surprising how many places we just ignore and walk past.
This time I (Mr W) took some time and tried the free ‘Bristol Quayside Adventure’ audio tour which you can find at
Just to confirm this is NOT a sponsored video, this was my own little trip.
There are also a number of other audio tours about Bristol which guide you through the history of the city.
The tour I chose takes you back to Bristol’s pirate past around the old city and harbour with stories about Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, the real Robinson Crusoe and the privateers of 18th century Bristol.
The Bristol audio tours take about 1 to 2 hours to complete depending on how long you stop and are definitely worth giving a go.
The main stops on the Bristol Quayside Walk:
1:40 The Merchants Venturers Almshouses, King Street
2:44 The Theatre Royal, King Street
3:04 The Llandoger Trow
4:07 Welsh Back
4:49 Queen Square
6:01 Woodes Rogers, Merchant and Privateer
6:51 The Hole in the Wall pub
7:50 Redcliffe Caves
8:46 The Ostrich Inn
9:01 Bristol Harbour

Underground tunnel in Bristol
The second and last activity of the day on a November day when not raining so decided to go not a few days earlier.
Both activities where underground and this was the one least likely to go wrong and up to the neck in water as no boat needed for this.
Other longer video of going on the river Frome under Bristol is here. Did that first.

Underground River Frome in Bristol. An underground adventure using new kayak
The first of two activities on a November day that was dry. Weather looked good so off we went.
Both where underground tunnels in Bristol. This one used the new blow up kayak and is a jolly on the river Frome under parts of the city center.
We soon found the door that I have seen on 3 other youtube videos. Stood up there and had some food when we came back to it after going off in one direction then back, dinner time and the area that is ok to get out and stand up. Can get the bags out the kayak.
Never got to the gated off bit by the Watershed, cafe, food area so a bit of a let down but was and interesting thing to do and been trying all summer. Decided to do this monday and was a few days later.
Wanted to get to this but could not. A nice old bridge underground as well on the map. Not sure we got that far.
The 2nd activity, still getting wet but no boat needed is here.
Original video that gave me the idea is here.
