Proyek Penyu Turtle Hatchery - Pemuteran, Bali
Turtle Hatchery Project
This is a non-profit organisation in Pemuteran, Bali, Indonesia. As a conservation effort, they buy turtle eggs and small turtles from locals and fishers, before tourists or dogs get to them.
They're funded by tourists like me, especially for those who pay for the privilege of releasing the turtles in the ocean when they're mature enough to have a chance. (We didn't get to see that part, because all the releases had been booked up by school groups.) According to Lonely Planet, thousands of turtles have been released since 1994.
This footage is from my visit on 23/11/2018. The music, 'City Turtles', is by the Orquestra Popular De Paio Pires in Portugal (from the Free Music Archive site).

GoPro Reef Seen Turtle Release (Pemuteran | North West Bali)
The Reef Seen Turtle Project in the North West Bali town of Pemuteran saves turtles caught in fishing nets and promotes education for local people to protect their marine environment. The project is funded mostly from entry donations and if they have any turtles ready, you can pay extra to release them. When we visited they had a number of juveniles ready to go - well some of them were ready. Our first turtle wasn't so keen so we put him back in the safety of his tank and released his friend who was more than happy to leave for the ocean.

SNORKELLING & SUNSETS // Red Island, Java & Pemuteran, Bali
After 10 days it was time for me to say goodbye to Java and head over to Bali. I spent my last couple of days in Java in Red Island, a coastal town famous for surfing before taking a short ferry ride across to Pemuteran in Bali. Whilst in Pemuteran I visited Menjangan Island National Park where I got to spend some time with the underwater creatures and I even managed to spot some dolphins on my journey to the island! During my time in Pemuteran I also managed to visit the turtle hatchery project to see the baby turtles and was lucky enough to see some traditional Balinese dancers.
During my time in Pemuteran I stayed at the beautiful Kubuku Eco Dive Lodge & Spa ( which I would highly recommend if you are planning on visiting the area!
I travelled round Java with G Adventures which definitely seemed to be the easiest way to get around the island! If you are interested, here is a link to the Java to Kuta tour I did:
Comment below if you have any questions about visiting Java or my Indonesia trip or if you just want to say hi!
