Well Played England (1932)
Full Title reads: Richmond - 'Well played England!' - only beaten by 3 goals to 1 in the last few minutes by Canada's unbeaten International Ice Hockey Team.
Richmond, Greater London.
Dark scenes of the beginning of an indoor ice hockey game. Scenes of play, some a little lighter. The two teams are both wearing light tops so it is difficult to tell them apart.
Intertitle reads These pictures, which mark another definite advance in News-reel cinematography, were taken by ordinary lighting of the vast 24,100 square feet Richmond Ice Rink - the largest in the world - & are exclusive to the Pathe Gazette.
(That's is why it is so dark).
Shot of the victorious Canadian team and the English team lined up together after the match.
Sound track missing. There appears to have been a shorter, silent version of this item in Gazette 1888. This is currently missing.

Battle of Agincourt and Overcoming Challenges - Life Journey
There are times in every life we face difficult tasks, challenges, and not so great odds. We may feel without hope at times. Yet we know we are not alone. Other people have overcome difficult times as well.
I am a fan of history. There are historical events where the underdog wins. Today we examine the events of the battle of Agincourt. A well documented piece of history where the underdog overcame great odds and came out on top.
It takes place in the North of France. They year is 1415. The English have invaded France and this campaign began in August. It is now October. The English are surrounded and outnumbered it is estimated 4 to 1.
Three things influenced the outcome of this battle.
One: Strategy
Two: Technology
Three: Leadership
The strategy was one of ancient warfare tactics. The English did not stand out in an open field to be beat up by the French. They chose landscape between two hills that lead to a more narrow passage where the smaller number could stand against the larger number of soldiers.
The technology was the long bow. At that time much of war was hand to hand combat. The long bow allowed the archer to reach out and touch someone from a greater distance.
The leadership was Henry V of England.
William Shakespeare wrote a play called Henry V and it tells the story of this event. There were also three eye witness accounts written down that survive to this day as well as several contemporary accounts so we understand pretty well how these events unfolded.
Even if you are not a reader or student of Shakespeare you have probably heard the band of brother's speech.
The night before the battle King Henry V wanted to know the emotional and mental state of the troops. He put on the cloak of a common foot soldier and went through the camp in darkness, stopping by the camp fires to listen to the men.
They were in despair, discouraged and thought they would all die tomorrow. Henry knew he had to say or do something to rally the troops.
You can yell at people to take that hill, but if they are not focused and prepared with their game face on, they probably will not succeed.
The rally speech is long and the first part isn't always quoted. It is important though, from a leadership standpoint
.
Let he who has no stomach for this fight be give his passport and crowns in his purse for passage. For we would not die in that man's company.
He was sending the whiners and complainers home. You have noticed that being with someone who is negative can really sap your energy and dilute your focus. Get them out of here. To succeed at anything you need energy and good focus.
The famous part of the speech,
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers. For he who sheds his blood with me this day shall be my brother. ..... Those still a bed in England shall think themselves accursed and hold their manhood's cheap whilst any speaks who fought with us on this Saint Crispin's day.
He leads them. He encourages them. He doesn't pretend nothing bad will happen. But whatever happens they are in it together. He isn't sending them out to die without him being there and leading from the front.
No one can fling an insult like Shakespeare. Henry is not slapping them around, he is appealing to their sense of pride and courage.
There are times in our lives we must rally. We have to Spartan up, set our purse down and get tough to overcome the challenge at hand.
I like the speech of Agincourt so much because it's principals remind us that we can rise up. We can rally, we can overcome great odds and big challenges.
You can rise up. You can overcome. You can do it. You were made for it!

Eoin Morgan Speaks on England vs New Zealand World Cup Final at Lords | #CWC19 #ENGvsNZ
England and New Zealand battle to be Cricket World Cup trophy’s new name
Black Caps are underdogs but the Lord’s pitch could offer bowlers the chance to disrupt excellence of Bairstow and Roy
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has put his money on England to lift their maiden World Cup crown on Sunday, saying New Zealand would find it exceptionally hard to beat the hosts in the summit clash.
England outplayed five-time champions Australia by eight wickets in the second semifinal in Birmingham on Thursday, and Ponting said his pre-tournament prediction about the home team is coming right.
Eoin Morgan has called on his England players to deliver an iconic sporting moment that inspires the nation by winning their first World Cup at the most famous cricket ground of all.
With Lord’s a picture, the weather set fair, the match televised free of charge across Sky and Channel 4, and the only major sporting distraction a handful of motor cars and tennis players, Sunday’s final between the previously uncrowned England and New Zealand has all the ingredients to be a classic. Morgan, expected to name an unchanged side from the one that tore through Australia in Thursday’s semi-final at Edgbaston, is under no illusions about the enormity of the occasion and its transformational potential.
Morgan said: “I haven’t allowed myself to think about lifting the trophy. Sport and cricket in particular is very fickle. If you ever get ahead of yourself, it always seems to bite you in the backside.
“But for us to win it, around the country it would be awesome – great for the game. It would be quite iconic and certainly in young kids’ memories if they are watching it at home and we manage to lift the trophy. It would be awesome.”
Regardless of the result, Morgan knows his trailblazing side have secured a place in English cricket history. They have risen from the despair of a miserable group-stage exit four years ago to No 1 in the world rankings thanks to a diverse set of talents embracing their captain’s dynamic style. No side during this time can match their 65 ODI wins, their 44 totals in excess of 300 – India are next best with 25 – nor their 2,389 fours and 582 sixes. England’s attack, a homogeneous collection of right-arm fast-mediums and an off-spinner for years, now boasts the electric pace of Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, as well as a top-class wrist-spinner in Adil Rashid.
Morgan said: “It’s important to recognise the work that has been done and the foundations that have been laid. It’s not just for this World Cup, it’s for the future.
“We’d all like to be contenders going into every World Cup and not just an afterthought, as we probably have been before. That’s a lot of hard work behind us and we’ve earned the right to be in the final because of that. But I don’t think it’s all or nothing.”

His ambitions for the team are slightly compromised by his employers, with the England and Wales Cricket Board set to relegate the men’s domestic 50-over cup to secondary status when the currently unloved 100-ball competition overlaps next year.
Back in the here and now, England head into Sunday’s final with a tailwind of goodwill – not least from the 101 England players to have featured in previous men’s World Cups, who in a video produced by the Professional Cricketers’ Association have sent messages of support.
“As the only Englishman to play in all three losing finals – 1979, 1987 and 1992 – I know the pain of losing,” said Graham Gooch, the former England captain. “You’ve played brilliantly so far. Believe in yourselves, everyone in our country is proud of you. Go and win the trophy.”
Morgan’s one injury doubt before the match, Jonny Bairstow, is all set to play despite a groin niggle and with a green tinge to the pitch 24 hours out, the chances of Moeen Ali returning as a second spinner alongside Rashid appear to be slim.
Before heading off for photographs with his opposite number, Kane Williamson, Morgan offered one final thought on proceedings, a reminder that Lord’s – his home ground for Middlesex – often produces low-scoring affairs in ODI cricket and added: “It will be a bit of a battle.”

There are some stories that just seem right, some things that make perfect sense and don't require further explanation. The story of pitch inflation is not one of those. It starts off fairly innocently, with vague attempts to standardize, until suddenly in the 19th century everything exploded and, well... I don't want to spoil the ending, but it's a wild ride.

Why Drake uses a Jamaican accent
Drake employs a Jamaican accent when it's convenient for him. So we investigated the origin of his patois.

Note: An earlier version of this video incorrectly stated that Boi-1da produced One Dance. It also incorrectly set the dates on Views and If You're Reading This It's Too Late.
---------------
The cultural history we’re discussing in this video extends beyond Drake in so many ways that couldn’t fit into this video. So here are some links to further watching / reading to get a better picture of the Caribbean-Canadian connection.
The first is this video by TheNerdwriter1. It focuses on the difference between tropical house and dancehall, with a nice little explainer on the history behind dancehall’s significance in Jamaican culture.
The second resource is in the Statistics Canada website. It’s where I got the map you saw in the video. And it can give you a closer look at the figures I talk about in the video.

Finally, I recommend the culture writing in the FADER, particularly when it focuses on greater Toronto. Here are some of my favorite pieces:

Rise and shine.
6am and your hand can't make it to the alarm clock before the voices in your head start telling you that it's too early, too dark, and too cold to get out of a bed.
Aching muscles lie still in rebellion, pretending not to hear your brain commanding them to move
A legion of voices are shouting their unanimous permission for you to hit the snooze button and go back to dreamland, but you didn't ask their opinion.
The voice you've chosen to listen to is one of defiance.
A voice that's says there was a reason you set that alarm in the first place. So sit up, put your feet on the floor, and don't look back because we've got work to do.
Welcome to The Grind!
For what is each day but a series of conflicts between the right way and the easy way, 10,000 streams fan out like a river delta before you, Each one promising the path of least resistance.
Thing is, you're headed upstream. And when you make that choice, when you decide to turn your back on what's comfortable and what's safe and what some would call common sense, well that's day 1. From there it only gets tougher.
So just make sure this is something you want. Because the easy way out will always be there, ready to wash you away, all you have to do is pick up your feet.
But you aren't going to are you?
With each step comes the decision to take another
You're on your way now
But this is no time to dwell on how far you've come. You're in a fight against an opponent you can't see
Oh but you can feel him on your heels can't you?
Feel him breathing down your neck
You know what that is? That's you...Your fears, your doubts and insecurities all lined up like a firing squad ready to shoot you out of the sky
But don't lose heart
While they aren't easily defeated, they are far from invincible
Remember this is The Grind
The Battle Royale between you and your mind, your body and the devil on your shoulder who's telling you that this is just a game, this is just a waste of time, your opponents are stronger than you.
Drown out the voice of uncertainty with the sound of your own heartbeat
Burn away your self doubt with the fire that's beneath you
Remember what you're fighting for
And never forget that momentum is a cruel mistress, She can turn on a dime with the smallest mistake.
She is ever searching for that weak place in your armor
That one tiny thing you forgot to prepare for
So as long as the devil is hiding the details, the question remains,is that all you got?, are you sure?
And when the answer is yes. That you've done all you can to prepare yourself for battle THEN it's time to go forth and boldly face your enemy, the enemy within
Only now you must take that fight into the open, into hostile territory
You're a lion in a field of lions
All hunting the same elusive prey with a desperate starvation that says VICTORY is the only thing that can keep you alive
So believe that voice that says you CAN run a little faster and that you CAN throw a little harder and that you CAN dive a little deeper and that, for you, the laws of physics are merely a suggestion.
Luck is the last dying wish of those who wanna believe that winning can happen by accident, sweat on the other hand is for those who know it's a choice, so decide now because destiny waits for no man. And when your time comes and a thousand different voices are trying to tell you you're not ready for it, listen instead for that lone voice in decent the one that says you are ready, you are prepared, it's all up to you now.
So rise and shine.

Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar: The Untold Truth' [HD] Full Movie in English | Must Watch
[Full Movie in English] Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar: The Untold Truth, by Jabbar Patel
This is one of the finest historical film made in Independent India. The movie is a refreshing antidote to the way we have looked at INDIA in this century. A work of cinematic scholarship.
This film takes place between the years 1901 to 1956, a period of great social upheavals and revolutionary movements around the world. In India during this time, there were two struggles being fought simultaneously; the first, which is well known throughout the world, was India's fight for independence spearheaded by Mahatma Gandhi, against the British colonial powers.
The second struggle, much less well known but no less important was an internal struggle. Seventy million Indian untouchables, led by Dr. Ambedkar were fighting for their rights against upper caste Hindu society.
This film holds its significance due to the fact that, though the ethos contained is Indian, it has its equation in the political and social disparity all over the world. The basic aim of the social revolution is to uphold the meaning of humanity in its truest sense.
Born in an 'untouchable' family at a time when untouchables were forbidden education, Ambedkar bore many insults and humiliations at the hands of his fellow students and became the first graduate of his community. Later, while studying at Columbia University, New York, Ambedkar was able to rid himself of the stigma of untouchability and breathe the air of freedom. But at the same time living next to Harlem he could equate the fate of his people with that of the Afro-Americans.
Though this story is particular to India, it is also universal. While Dr Ambedkar was rooted in India, he also had an international outlook. There will always be people like him who struggle to better the lot of the exploited, the downtrodden, and the forgotten. His was the universal fight of the underdog, to gain his people a rightful place in the sun.
The film evolved from the documentary film he made on the life of Dr Ambedkar for Films Division in 1989. Shooting for this documentary was also done part in the US and the UK and mainly in India when Patel met people who were in actual contact with Dr Ambedkar. The incidents related to me by these people, their fond memories of the learned visionary were so touching and exciting that I thought, the only true tribute to the great man would be a lifesize sketch of Dr Ambedkar on the silver screen.
According to director Jabbar Patel, it is important for every Indian to see the film because we don't often read this chapter of our history. As we can see from events around us today, the social struggle of Dr. Ambedkar is important to know because it helps us better understand the present.

QUOTES:
“Your passion is for you, your purpose is for others. Your passion makes you happy. But when you use your passion to make a difference in someone else's life, that's a service, that's a purpose, and that's the hand. [22:54]
“Being able to reflect and observe the different voices inside of us is a great place to start your self-awareness because the biggest challenge is that most of us don't know what we're listening to. Most of us don't even know that there is more than one voice inside of us.” [32:28]
“The highest form of empathy, love, and compassion is to meet people where they already are, rather than expecting them to change.” [50:49]
