Mineshaft Collapse in Falmouth- Optera Ltd

After a Mineshaft collapse, Optera were called in to bring the property to a safe and habitable condition. Over a period of 6 weeks the Optera team plugged the hole (which measured roughly 10 metres in diameter & depth) using foam concrete, allowing the owners to return to their property.

Opened in 1863 it served Falmouth as a Broad Gauge line until the Great Western Railway converted it to Standard Gauge. Much reduced in size it was closed in 1970 however in 1975 it was re-opened and in 1989 it was renamed As Falmouth Docks and the Dell was renamed Falmouth Town. Penmere Station also serves the town of Falmouth.

Why I moved from London to Milton Keynes and why I now love it

Why I moved out of London? And why I now live in Milton Keynes? Do I like it here? Or do I prefer London? What do you guys know about MK? Have you been here? Do you like it? I find living in Milton Keynes more chilled out! It’s not as hectic as London, people are less stressed out and so they seem to be nicer. It is easier to get good jobs in MK as it’s less competitive than overpopulated UK capital. I love London but now living in Milton Keynes I’m only 30mins on train to London so it’s not hard to go and see my friends in London or just go for a day. There are still lots of stuff to do in Milton Keynes, lots of shopping centres, cinemas, awesome gyms, gymnastics, go carting, dancing and whatever you like! And houses are so much cheaper! Like wow! Houses in Zlonfon are super expensive but here in Milton Keynes they are much more affordable! There is definitely much more to MK than concrete cows, there lots of greenery and you see cute animals out and about like cars, bunnies and squirrels! Milton Keynes is a good place to live in in my opinion! ????

Slave Narrative One - Olaudah Equiano (1789)

TIMELINE OF THE LIFE OF EQUIANO OLAUDAH

1745 Born in West Africa.
1755 Captured and sold into slavery.
1756 Arrival in the West Indies. Lt. Pascal purchases Equiano. During this time, Equiano sees white people reading and becomes curious.
1757 Arrival in Falmouth, England. Equiano lives with a woman as her slave and is instructed in reading and writing.
1757-62 Equiano accompanies Lt. Pascal onboard for various trips.
1763 Equiano returns to the West Indies and is sold to a new master.
1766 At age 21, Equiano is able to purchase his freedom for 40 Pounds Sterling. He remains with his master as an employee, but is planning on returning to England.
1767 Purchases a ticket to sail back to England. He is self-employed in England as a hairdresser. For financial reasons, he returns to the shipping trade. He visits Italy, Turkey, and Greece.
1773 Is part of the crew on an Arctic expedition.
1775 Returns to the West Indies.
1777 Returns to England as an abolitionist, and becomes the commissary officer for the Sierra Leone resettlement project.
1789 Publishes his narrative.
1797 Equiano Olaudah dies at age 52 and is buried in Cambridgeshire, England.
1807 Great Britain abolishes slavery.

5. The Lake District in Northwest England is the country’s largest national park. Hosting some of the most stunning landscapes in the UK, it’s a favourite among hikers and photographers.

Walking, cycling, windsurfing and kayaking are particularly popular here.

Our tip: Get up before sunrise for the best photos.

4. 2017 marks thirty years since Bath was awarded its UNESCO World Heritage status. It’s known as one of the most beautiful cities in England, with picturesque Georgian crescents, terraces and squares, a deep Roman history, an endless stream of independent shops and restaurants and beautiful countryside surroundings.

Our tip: Go on a weekday to avoid the crowds.

3. The New Forest offers beauty in abundance and is a great place to go for families. Our favourite is seeing Europe's largest gathering of otters and owls at the New Forest Otter, Owl and Wildlife Park.
For some adventure, cycle the flat, grounds of Brockenhurst, or visit Hurst Castle for an injection of history!
Our tip: The Lyndhurst New Forest Museum is free to enter


3. Snowdonia is about much more than just Mount Snowdon, Wales’s highest peak at 3,559 feet. With its mix of mountains, forest and sandy beaches, the Sygun Copper Mine, and medieval history at Harlech Castle, this giant national park has everything you need for a brilliant holiday.

Our tip: If you’re feeling lazy, there’s a railway that runs to the top of Mount Snowdon.

1. Cornwall is the classic British holiday destination. It has rolling countryside, beautiful beaches, quaint fishing villages and is home to the legendary Cornish pasty and of course, amazing cream teas.
For stunning views and lush greenery head to Penzance, for seaside charm head to St Ive's, and for watersports head to Newquay, a thriving town filled with surfer-types, nightlife and surf schools.

Our tip: For the best fish and chips in Cornwall head to Falmouth.
