The Breeze On 91 Station Imaging - Auckland, New Zealand (1994)
DESCRIPTION
- Assorted station imaging from Auckland's The Breeze On 91, circa 1994.
BRIEF STATION HISTORY
- The Breeze On 91 commenced transmission as Radio MJK - Magic 91FM in April of 1983. It was Auckland's first full-time commercial FM radio station, and New Zealand's first too.
In March of 1993, 91FM was re-branded as The Breeze on 91. The Breeze on 91 was one of three similarly branded stations that were launched around New Zealand at that time. The other two being in Hamilton and Wellington. However, unlike the Wellington station (which is where the roots of today's The Breeze network lie), the Auckland and Hamilton stations ran a Hot AC format, as opposed to easy listening.
In February of 1997, the 91.0 FM frequency was used to launch 91ZM in Auckland, as a result of the station's earlier sale to The Radio Network.

Geoff Rooke On Kool 93 - Auckland, New Zealand (1994)
DESCRIPTION
- The 'Top Of Hour' jingle on Auckland's Kool 93, voiced by announcer Geoff Rooke, circa 1994.
BRIEF STATION HISTORY
- Kool 93 was launched in 1991 as Oldies 93.4. Oldies 93.4 broadcast on 93.4MHz and featured an oldies format which primarily consisted of 1960s music.
In early 1992, Oldies 93.4 was re-branded as Kool 93.
In 1996, Kool 93's parent company Prospect was sold to the newly formed Radio Network (TRN). As a condition of the sale, the Commerce Commission ruled that three of Prospect's former stations must be sold to other parties to avoid market dominance by TRN. 93.4MHz was subsequently sold to Radio Pacific and as a result, Kool 93 closed down in mid 1997.
For several months, a temporary programme was broadcast on 93.4MHz in Auckland, with voiceovers advising listeners about the impending launch of a new station. That station, Solid Gold FM, went to air on 13 October 1997.
On 1 January 2012, Solid Gold FM was re-launched as The Sound.

In mid 1993, the station was re-launched on a new frequency as The New 94.2 FM Country, when it came under new ownership.
In May of 1997, FM Country ceased operating, following the earlier sale of its parent company to the newly formed Radio Network (TRN).
In June of 1997, the 94.2 FM frequency was used by The More FM Group to launch Channel Z in Auckland.

In 1990, Radio Hauraki converted from 1476 AM to 99.0 FM and was subsequently re-branded as 99 Hauraki FM.
