MAGDALENE LAUNDRY AUSTRALIA 2008 Tour of Abbotsford Convent Victoria Australia
This video is a tribute to my mother, her two sisters and three brothers who were all put into Catholic Institutional care in 1921. My mother and her sisters were taken in by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd at their Abbotsford Convent. Neither my mother nor her sisters were Magdalen inmates The Magdalen inmates were in the section of the convent called Sacred Heart and my mother and sisters were in St Josephs section. Sacred Heart was known informerly as the Penitentiary because it was in effect a prison with bars on windows and high cast iron gates to prevent escapes. The Magdalens were made to work up to 50 hours a week, for no pay to keep one of the biggest commercial laundries in Melbourne running. Income from the laundries made possible all the other pastoral work of the 'Mother House' that was the Abbotsford Convent and in the South Pacific region, for 100 yrs.

Dights Falls Yarra River Abbotsford Melbourne
Dights Falls is an artificial weir built on a natural rock bar across the Yarra. The weir was built in the 1840s to provide water to the 'Ceres' flour mill, one of the first in Victoria. The falls were later to become known as Dights Falls after the owners of the mill.
Dights Falls is a rapids and weir on the Yarra River Melbourne, Victoria, just downstream of the junction with the Merri Creek. At this point the river narrows and is constricted between 800,000-year-old volcanic, basaltic lava flow and a much older steep, silurian, sedimentary spur.
The rocky outcrop at Dights Falls was a natural crossing place used by the Wurundjeri people and the nearby junction of the Merri Creek and Yarra River was an important meeting place for trade, marriage, dispute resolution and other ceremonies.
Australian Rules Football - Around the Grounds - Victoria Park
Victoria Park is located in Abbotsford and was the home ground of the Collingwood Football Club from 1892 (they entered the VFL in 1897) through to 1999.
Billy asks Jedi to wipe the smile of his face in fear of retribution by the much feared Magpie. Billy tells about the day Nicky Winmar raised his jumper and when he was ushered to the Collingwood lock-up for taking on the Magpie Army. Billy and Jedi show us what opposition coaches had to contend with.
Details on Victoria Park can be found at Wikipedia and Austadiums.
Dr Morse Bar and Eatery a Cafe in Melbourne serving Salad, Burger and Coffee
Under the Victoria Park train bridge in Abbotsford, a little corner presides over the ever-long commuters, dog piss and those traipsing down that end of Johnston Street.
Perhaps, you have loitered there after dark or bought a hot pie from the servo near Lulie Street when you have been stranded drunk. The pedestrian crossing is wide and sure of itself, the brickwork of the station and surrounds are red and old as Collingwood. Humble shop facades lean low over the street as they double file into Fitzroy. A decision to better this alcove brought three folks together: a builder, a thinker and a doer. What could a corner give and what could they give a corner that didn’t involve heroin? Indian Root Pills, of course. The answer was written — quite literally — on the wall under years of black paint. A cure for indigestion-the simple remedy-best blood purifier- all to-have-you-in-good-order was in the form of a little pill. The supposed creator was a Dr. Morse, circa 19th century USA and the brainchild of the Comstock family (of the unfortunate last name). The Doctor was a character, the spruiker and pusher-man — he could clean you right up with a wink. He sold his story for decades: an American Indian saved Dr. Morse’s life with a remedy. The recipe was the secret to the Indian Root Pills. The End
Excited by the images of an American Indian fighting a bear, Jon Costello, Anthony Daniels and Peter Walsh decided to take on the wild promises of Dr. Morse but without the gypsy spruiking. The little corner on Johnston Street would cure all hunger and thirst ailments with the help of coffee, alcohol and good food.
Welcome to the new world with Dr Morse, 274 Johnston Street Abbotsford in Melbourne, Australia. It’s where troubles of the liver and stomach can be relieved without the promise of reduced seasickness.

The Best Asian Restaurants in Melbourne | ChangGo, Jinda Thai and Chimac
A compilation of all the best asian restaurants I have found during my time in Melbourne.
The best korean bbq restaurant I have found (in terms of food, location and value for money) was ChangGo on Little La Trobe Street. There is always a massive line there, so you have to be prepared to go early or wait 30 minutes to an hour for a table.
The best thai restaurant I found was Jinda Thai in Abbotsford. Again, usually always a wait to get a table, so we opted to go early so we didn't have to deal with a line. My favourite dishes are the chilli fried rice and the pad see ew.
Finally, my favourite hidden gem restaurant is a Korean-Mexican fusion restaurant in North Melbourne. I go with my friends pretty regularly, although we usually always order the same food comprising the bulgogi japchae, kimchi carnitas loaded fries, spicy pork bulgogi and korean fried chicken.
Obviously these are only a few of the endless amazing asian restaurants in Melbourne, but I just thought I would share some of my favourites.
