Daytime Market in the Hassen Arena
This is the place to taste and buy artisan cheeses – all artisanal and lovingly handcrafted with milk from sheep, goat, cow and water buffalo. If you are looking for guidance, who better to ask than the cheesemakers themselves, who will be on hand to provide samples and advice.
Our cheesemakers will be joined by producers of speciality foods and food-related products. Think wine and spirits, craft cider and beer and add charcuterie, savoury crackers, jams, chocolates, preserves, oils, condiments, wooden cutting boards and more.
This is small-batch production at its best, created by people who love what they do.
New! due to the growth of this event, we will be moving to Hassen Arena where we can host additional vendors, demonstrations and displays.
those attending will pick up a ‘cheese pass’ which will allow one complimentary tasting from each exhibitor until 3pm.
During the event, Cheese Poet David Beaudoin will host a ‘Cheese 101’ seminar in the morning and building on that, a 'Cheese & Brew' seminar in the afternoon.
Naomi with Birdsong Farm will also be hosting two cheese-making demonstrations - start at home and you never know - could be a future BC Artisan Cheesemaker in your midst!
Registration for the seminars will begin at 9:30am and be limited so register early!
Think you are the ‘big cheese’? Don’t miss the ‘Cheese ball ‘and ‘Grilled Cheese’ competitions. Amateur cheese ball entries will be accepted from 10 – 11am with judging at 11am. The amateur grilled cheese competition will begin at 11am. Winners of both the amateur and ‘Great Grilled Cheese Restaurant Challenge’ will be crowned ‘The Big Cheese’ at 2:45pm with bragging rights for an entire year!

The medieval theme runs through all aspects of the banquet, beginning with its location in Mt. Stephens Hall, and includes menu, table settings, costumes, and entertainment. An event company, Peak Events, provides costumes for the “royal” head table; costumed actors (including the banquet emcee), sound system, royal bagpiper, and a staging of the royal stocks (medieval punishment device) for the basic package.
Guests first enjoy fresh fruit and cheese with whole rye loaves and whipped butter, as well as a peel-and-eat shrimp display. Attendees are then seated at long banquet tables decorated with medieval runners and wine bottle candleholders. Costumed service staff present clear oxtail soup with sherry, then each table is served a whole roasted chicken, lamb chops, beef ribs, roasted vegetables, and roasted new potatoes. Suckling pig and whole roasted turkey can be substituted in the main course for an additional charge. The meal ends with Lady Guinevere cake with fresh fruit and a two-ounce glass of mulled wine.

Watonga Cheese Festival
Since Watonga suffered extensive damage last year due to Hurricane Erin (the cheese factory was destroyed), and had to cancel their annual cheese festival in 2007- the town is proud to bring back this much-loved event, bigger and better than ever. So plan on joining Shel for your own taste of Watonga Cheese!
Beer Vats being transported in Waterdown, ON
Molson-Coors beer vats are being transported from the port in Hamilton, ON to Toronto, ON. This is a $20 million operation due to the amount of coordination required between the transport company, utilities companies and the police in multiple jurisdictions.
They had to pick a route that avoids any underpasses. Seen here is the trucks passing under a power line on Hwy 5. Note the utility company is actually holding the power line higher so that the trucks can make the pass.
To make it around the traffic lights, the trucks enter the intersection on the correct side of the street and then zig over to the opposite side.

A private visit to Kitron Boutique Winery near Netanya
A few months ago, while hunting for a real estate in the Galilee, I ran into a fellow named Meir Biton. He's a successful entrepreneur in Israel and he told me about his boutique winery called Kitron. When my friend Dan Rabinovitch recently came to Israel for the Wine Expo, it was only natural that I introduce the two. As a result, we received an invitation for a private tour of Meir's winery near Netanya. Meir's loves in life are his family, learning Torah, travelling through Israel in his RV with his kids, Tennessee walking horses. His current passion is making wine which he does in small quantities by himself with the help of his children.
The winery is located on a stunning 10 dunam property with state of the art equipement.
Dan was here buying wines for his import business. I had a great time and received a great education about Israeli wines from Dan while he was here as we visited 4 wineries together.

While copyright might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about taking an adventure, copyright and adventure actually go hand in hand. Have you seen a photograph of a beautiful location and then gone on your own adventure there? Or have you written a song about an incredible place you have visited?
