Miller Homes - Holme View, Scholes, Holmfirth - CGI Development Video
From its beautiful vantage point high in the Pennine Hills, within walking distance of the Peak District National Park, the village of Scholes has the timeless appeal of a welcoming rural community. A mile from Holmfirth, celebrated location of TV’s Last of the Summer Wine, this selection of energy-efficient three, four and five bedroom homes combines a peaceful setting and outstanding views with easy access to Huddersfield and other cities. Welcome to Holme View...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The hilltop village of Scholes is a Pennine oasis with stunning views over the Holme Valley.
Just one mile from Holmfirth, which became famous as the setting for iconic sit-com ‘Last of the Summer Wine’, Scholes was also home to popular TV personality Roy Castle. It is also just six miles from Huddersfield which offers a larger selection of facilities – providing that perfect juxtaposition of village life within easy reach of 21st century necessities.
Originally established as a corn mill on the banks of the river Holme in the 13th century Holmfirth then became a centre for the textile and quarry trades. Providing housing for these workers was a priority and cottage style homes were constructed creating the heart of the village we see today.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Holmfirth is the hub of the Holme Valley and is popular with cyclists and walkers who use it as a base to explore the surrounding area.
Black Hill, part of the Pennine Way, is a popular spot and circular walks can also be enjoyed from this location.
Digley Reservoir is another local beauty spot offering the perfect place for a stroll and a picnic or a more taxing hill walk.
ART AND CULTURE
Popular Yorkshire watercolour artist, Ashley Jackson, has a gallery in Holmfirth which is well worth a visit when in town. And, if you get lucky, you may even meet the man himself!
Each May the Holmfirth Festival of Folk takes place with live music offering a fun, exciting atmosphere and brings together the local community from young and old alike.
VILLAGE PUBS AND VINES
The village pub in the centre of Scholes offers a traditional pub setting for food, drinks and get togethers. Meanwhile, in nearby Holmfirth there is a wider range of cafes, pubs and restaurants to enjoy.
Most interestingly, is the Holmfirth Vineyard, situated over 840ft above sea level and where the Sheveling wine estate is. Estalished in 2009 there is now a place to enjoy breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or a glass of Yorkshire wine and on Friday and Saturday evenings, dinner is served. And, you can enjoy a vineyard tour or if friends are visiting from out of town, a selection of holiday apartments are available for hire.
TV TREASURES
A visit to Holmfirth may not be complete for some without a trip down memory lane to enjoy TV memories from Last of the Summer Wine.
You can pop to Sid’s Café, the café that was featured in each and every episode, or perhaps you could take trip on a vintage bus which takes you to some of the most memorable film locations during the long running TV programme.
EVERY DAY LIFE
In the village of Scholes is a popular Junior and Infant School whilst the closest secondary school is in Holmfirth. There is also a post office, fish and chip shop and a prosperous Cricket Club where Yorkshire’s most popular sport can be enjoyed.

Oxfordshire is full of pretty villages, but with its appealing chocolate box appearance, iconic and interesting architecture and lively village community atmosphere, Bloxham takes some beating according to Jeannette Steel, sales advisor from Miller Homes, who lives and works nearby:
I have called a number of places in the UK home, but none of them has captured my heart quite like Bloxham, a beautiful honey-coloured village located three miles south-west of Banbury, on the edge of the stunning Cotswolds.
Whenever I return back to the village after a busy day in the office, as soon as I catch a glimpse of the picturesque spire of the Church of St Mary, Our Lady of Bloxham, I know I have arrived home. It is a real landmark in the area and apparently it’s the highest church spire in Oxfordshire.
Just a short walk from the church is the quaint, thatched 17th Century Court House, which is the site of the small but intriguing Bloxham Village Museum. It’s a lovely way to learn about the social and local history of the village, and there is a new exhibition annually, which gives me an excuse to visit at least once a year.
Another distinctive building in the village centre is Bloxham School, an independent co-educational secondary school and sixth form college. The building is over 150 years old and has a wonderful swimming pool that was refurbished only a few years ago. The pool is open to the public on certain days, and it is a really calm, relaxing place to take a dip.
One of the things I love the most about the village is the real sense of community that exists here. It is nowhere more evident than in the large choice of clubs available. There are gardening clubs, walking groups, yoga lessons; something to suit everyone, and they are a really great way to get to know your neighbours and make friends.
Another place to experience the village’s warm community spirit is in one of the fantastic village centre pubs. The Red Lion has been recently refurbished by Mark and Sandra Page, and it’s somewhere I enjoy popping into for a drink or a bite to eat. The huge beer garden is such a nice place to spend time. It is a family friendly restaurant, with all of the delicious food on the menu, which changes each season and is freshly prepared on the premises.
The Joiner’s Arms and the Elephant& Castle are also brilliant pubs, the latter being operated by local family-run brewery Hook Norton, and recognised in the CAMRA good pub guide for its great selection of real ales.

Why Shawfair?
In a prime location for easy access to Edinburgh’s vibrant city centre, while still in picturesque surroundings, Miller Homes at Shawfair is a great place to call home. As a brand new area of the city, we’ve complied our top five reasons that make Shawfair a great place to call home.
Shawfair is a thriving community where people can live, work and play within an entirely new urban setting, and we’ve compiled our top five reasons to consider a move to this fantastic area.
1. It’s the top city in the UK
Edinburgh was recently named the most attractive city to live and work in the UK, pipping the likes of London, Bristol and Glasgow to the post. A study by the Royal Mail saw Scotland’s capital come out on top in terms of its stunning green spaces, healthcare, business opportunities and cultural services – making it a fantastic place to settle down.
2. It’s country living on the city’s doorstep
Perfect for those who love the outdoors, Shawfair has plenty to offer. Surrounded by miles of cycle paths and walking trails, rolling countryside, community woodlands and beautifully landscaped greenspace, you can enjoy some of the country’s most breathtaking landscapes and wildlife.
3. Soak up the local history
Shawfair has some of Scotland’s rich history right on its door step. Craigmiller Castle is known as Edinburgh’s ‘other castle’ and stands just a mile outside the old city walls. Get to know some of the city’s less iconic history and climb to the top of one of Scotland’s oldest tower houses, which includes a great hall and a prison. From here you can admire the spectacular views across Edinburgh, pointing out the city’s iconic landmarks.
4. Shop ‘til you drop
Scotland’s capital is right on Shawfair’s door step, and you can be in the heart of the city within just 15 minutes. Famed for its rich history and vibrant culture, Edinburgh is also home to a fantastic array of shopping. Whether you’re looking for high end or high street, or prefer finding hidden treasure in vintage boutiques, the city is the perfect place for some retail therapy.
5. Get to know your neighbours
Visit the world’s largest indoor butterfly house with hundreds of free flying exotic butterflies in an indoor tropical rainforest. Edinburgh Insect and Butterfly World is open all year-round 7 days a week and offers great activities for all the family, including animal feeding sessions and even the chance to face your phobias by holding a snake, tarantula or a giant millipede!
