Tour de Pomme 2016
Tour de Pomme 2016!
AC Goatham & Son has teamed up with the Grain Peninsula Cycling Club to kick start the beginning of the 2016 apple harvest with their own Tour de Pomme.
The Tour de Pomme took place on Sunday 21 August, and the 78.6-mile tour saw the cyclists visiting 12 of AC Goatham & Son’s 17 farms. Crossing the North Downs, from Medway heading south to Sutton Valance and back via Sittingbourne and Gillingham, the route was both challenging and hilly in parts.
Carol Ford, Commercial Director at AC Goatham & Son comments: “I’ve been part of the Grain Peninsula Cycling Club for several months now and I thought it would be a great idea to raise awareness of how great cycling is in Kent, as well as celebrating the start of the 2016 apple harvest. The tour took us to 12 of AC Goatham & Son’s farms, with pit-stops at popular locations such as The Barnyard at Gore Farm. Following on from Britain’s success in both the Tour de France and the Olympics this summer, it would be great to see more people who are interested in cycling visiting the club to have a go. And what better way to refuel while cycling is to enjoy a delicious and healthy Kent apple.”
Grain Peninsula Cycling Club is located on the Hoo Peninsula at Deangate Sports Complex Dux Court Road Hoo ME3 8RZ. It welcomes everyone from beginners to advanced riders. Training is on Thursday 6-10pm and Saturday 1-5pm. Children's training is on Saturday at 12pm and club runs take place on Sundays at 8am during the summer and 9am during the winter. AC Goatham & Son and The NFU, The Future of Farming in Medway & Swale
The Future of farming in Medway & Swale took place on Friday 18 March 2016 at Gore Farm, nr Sittingbourne, Kent and brought together local MP's, county, town and parish councillors and members of the farming and advisory community in Kent.
The purpose was to discuss the role of farming and to explain the challenges it faces and also the opportunities it presents such as local, seasonal job creation.
It was also important to listen, to gain a better understanding and to find a way to work more closely in the future, to ensure farming remains a key part of the local economy.
In the first of two films, Carol Ford of AC Goatham & Son and Guy Poskitt, NFU, talk about some of the issues for farmers today.

Windy Bewl Water 2014
Bewl Water is a reservoir in the valley of the River Bewl (which is a tributary of the River Teise), straddling the boundary between Kent and East Sussex. It is about 2 miles south of Lamberhurst, Kent, England. The reservoir was part of a project to increase supplies of water in the area. It supplies not only Southern Water’s customers in the Medway towns, Thanet and Hastings, but is also used by other water companies in the area.
Work began to construct the reservoir in 1973 by damming and then flooding a valley. It was completed in 1975 having been filled with over 31,300 million litres of water. It is now the largest body of inland water in south east England.
In winter, when the flow in the River Medway exceeds 275 million litres per day, river water is pumped to storage in the reservoir. There is an outline plan to raise the water level by a further 3m to increase the yield by up to 30% to help with the growing water demand in south-east England. This will however put further demands on the River Medway to supply the additional water required with the potential for environmental degradation in the river and the eco-systems that it supports.
The reservoir in common with most large clean water lakes, is host to a large variety of wildlife.

Sarah & Tom had a beautiful rustic English countryside wedding, celebrating at BROADFIELD COURT, in Herefordshire. Broadfield Court has lovely gardens where they grow the ingredients for their delicious food, and also has it’s own scenic vineyards, which are fantastic for photographs (and for wine!). Sarah & Tom also had their own sparkling perry especially made, and there was a real feeling of enjoying Herefordshire in their day, using local products, local ingredients and local suppliers, which I think is brilliant.

Max Carrados is a fictional blind detective in a series of mystery stories and books by Ernest Bramah, beginning in 1914. The Max Carrados stories appeared alongside Sherlock Holmes in the Strand Magazine, in which they often had top billing, and frequently outsold his eminent contemporary at the time, even if they failed to achieve the longevity of Holmes.
George Orwell wrote that, together with those of Conan Doyle and R. Austin Freeman, Max Carrados and The Eyes of Max Carrados are the only detective stories since Poe that are worth re-reading.
