Ventnor V76 Footpath
My favourite footpath on the Island. It starts 400 metres East of St. Lawrence Shute, on the Coastal Path, and joins the road at Inglewood Park.

Ventnor Botanical Gardens
Another blast from the past. A place of perfect peace, serenity and tranquility that, at the time the film was taken was open to the public twenty four hours a day, without let or hindrance. Run largely by volunteers under the auspices of the Local Council, it was a favorite for my wife and myself to relax in on many a warm and sunny evening.
Now it has been 'privatised'. It isn't free any more: its gates close at 5 pm and there is a perimeter fence. People walking along the Coastal Path can no longer amble through. What a shame.
Many people have given benches in the past as thanks for the happy times they or their loved ones had spent in the garden. It was a privilege to use them, sitting in the dappled sunlight. Now, it is apparently not possible to donate a seat as a remembrance any more. Such things are probably 'politically incorrect'.
Yet one more testimonial to the twenty first century phenomenon of Can't Cope Britain. Alas and Alack. What would Macmillan have said?
Undercliff Drive, Isle of Wight: Volunteer-made road
This is the road that was re-made by volunteers for the residents of the Undercliff drive.
Them taking matters into their own hands came from the frustration of no work being carried out on the road after the had to leave their homes back in February 2014.
There had been some photos circulating that didn't really give an accurate view of what the road was like, so we thought video would do the best job.

undercliff drive volunteer built road - st lawrence - isle of wight
The locally constructed road .built over the existing remnants of the original road. Now closed again to all and sundry.with added signage.2014 .
will this ever reopen again fully .I for one hope so , but I doubt it ever will . they shouldn`t of sold the end house off after they acquired it as such a time as this sort of thing happens it could of been demolished and the road moved inland .basically there is no money in the kitty to do it properly once and for all .
then all the other minor roads take the traffic burden and cause what is some of the buzz words of 2014 a knock on effect .
Candles on the Cobb 2018 Lyme Regis
A short video of Candles on the Cobb this evening. Witnessed by a huge crowd of onlookers along the seafront and from the gardens above, this truly moving and spectacular event saw 5,000 candles lit up the iconic Cobb harbour in memory of loved ones. A giant poppy on the sandy beach was illuminated to commemorate the centenary year since the ending of WWI. Despite earlier fears it would not go ahead due to rain and wind, the event proved to be a huge success and a big thank you goes to Rotary Club of Lyme Regis and volunteers for organising the remarkable spectacle. #ILoveLymeRegis

Undercliff Drive Landslip - A comparison after 2 years. - Isle Of Wight.
In February 2014, Undercliff Drive suffered landslides that took away access to local buildings & a caravan park.
Local residents have been messed around for 2 years by the Isle Of Wight Council regarding getting repairs done.
After a while they rebuilt a single lane of road themselves from the western end allowing access to vehicles once more, (Shown at end of video.) However the council closed the road again after just days and put barriers in place..
Since closing the road made by residents there has been excuse after excuse why works can't go ahead to have that end done officially so people can once again have access to their homes & business.
(The access road put in by the residents is meanwhile still closed and in just as good condition as the day it was finished.)
Official works are supposed to be starting at the western end shortly at time of posting this. (March 2016)
But after the many ridiculous excuses given to the affected residents by the council for not carrying out any works, it wouldn't surprise me if that trend continues further..
Yaverland Battery Outer Wall Collapse - Isle Of Wight
Built to ward off the French Navy & beaten by the British weather.
The constant heavy rain in early 2014 filled the ground with water, and the wall gave way from the inside..
The Remains of this Battery are apparently now a 'Scheduled Ancient Monument' .....
