Steel Valley Hires Ed Wehrer as Superintendent Part 5 (Bobick and Homestead Mayor Esper)
Holly Bobick and Homestead Mayor Betty Esper give comments on superintendent hire.
Ed Wehrer was voted in 5-4 as the new Steel Valley Superintendent.
The school board voted to hire the Munhall resident on Thursday, June 7, 2012, after narrowing the field to two candidates.
Board President Beth Cannon cast the deciding vote in favor of Wehrer to break a 4-4 tie. Vice President Vince Natale, Susan Ballas, Joe Ducar and Thomas Olson also voted for Wehrer.
Donald Bajus, Donna Kiefer, Michael Terrick and Colette Youngblood cast their votes for Joseph Kimmel, former superintendent of Chestnut Ridge School District in Bedford County.
Wehrer, a 1984 Steel Valley graduate, is the executive director at Carnegie Library of Homestead. He will receive a three-year contract with an annual salary of $101,000.
Wehrer will replace William Kinavey, who will retire in July.
