Ten years ago we celebrated the turn of the Millennium. This video was taken by myself and my father in Edgworth, Lancashire, England.
The video starts with people gathering outside the White Horse pub before making a torch light procession through the village to a hill overlooking the Whayo Reservoir where a huge bonfire had been built. It was a cold wet night, but the heat of the fire kept people warm.
At midnight flares were sent up. The whole southern horizon erupted as fireworks were launched all over Bolton and Manchester.

The year 2012 was a year for both sellers and buyers alike to take a breather. Overall, sales in the Fraser Valley dropped, and there was little change in property values. Here in South Surrey and White Rock, as well as much of the Fraser Valley, buyers held off on buying, hoping for a drop in prices. As the economy remained stable, and even grew stronger, sellers who didn't have to sell just took their homes off the market.
Those buyers that did venture forth and purchase a home did so receiving good value and took advantage of continued low interest rates. With the experts telling us that not much is going to change in the next 12 to 18 months, this new spring market looks very promising for both buyers and sellers.In White Rock and South Surrey,December saw 43 single family homes sell compared to 70 in December of 2011. The benchmark price was $823,000 and in December of last year it was $880,000, a decrease of 6.5%
Townhouses went from 17 sold in December of 2011 to 13 last month, down in price 3.4% from $453,000 to $438,000. Condos went from a benchmark price in December 2011 of $252,000 to$227,000, a drop of almost 10%. What does this mean to you, as a buyer, or as a seller, here in South surrey? Well, Buyers, now is most certainly a great time to shop. There are many lovely houses available, as well as townhouses and condos. Thinking long term, this is a market that is just too good NOT to buy! For those of you wanting to sell your property, spring is approaching (hopefully soon!) Most sellers believe that the best time to sell their home is the spring - and you are right! But, be sure not to wait! List your house now, to be sure you let avid buyers see your house before the rush in march and April!
And, once again, here is my real estate tip of the month - Your front door and entrance way is the first thing buyers see when they come for a showing! Replace that light fixture over the front entrance that's all covered in dust and cobwebs with a nice shiny new one! $30 Buy a new front doormat that says Welcome on it - $25 bucks! get a nice shiny new mailbox $20 Replace the house numbers with new ones $15 .
