THE DREAM WILD CAMP IN Sutton Manor Colliery ST HELENS MERSYSIDE
WILD CAMP IN Sutton Manor Colliery ST HELENS MERSYSIDE
Sutton Manor Park and Dream, St Helens, UK. Feb 2018
I wanted to see what my DJI spark could do so I took it to a local point of interest and mixed it up with some mobile phone footage.
(I flew over Dream yay!)
Winds were choppy at times when I did my filming so sparky got blown about a bit but the footage seems pretty good.
I couldn't fly too far for fear of loosing signal but I think that could be down to the sparks range limitations. It was also flying at 3C so I kept getting a battery warning. (Meaning the battery is less effective at low temps.) I still got 10 mins flight time out of each battery I used.
It's been a while since I have done some meaningful editing and tested out my new editing software. (Pinnacle studio 21)
I hope you guys like it out there. :)

Enchanting English Woodland
Having lived here all my life, and driven, cycled, and walked past here,God knows how many times,I was amazed to stumble upon this pristine woodland. They are known as Stanley Bank Woods, and are just off the A580 East Lancs rd behind the Ship Inn at Haydock. All this,is approx. 9 miles East of the outskirts of Liverpool, and close to S.t Helens.Anyone visiting here,or Liverpool, will be amazed at the greenery.Yes there is much urbanisation, and industry, but many lovely green areas awaiting discovery. This was a compilation of 3 visits, and was just me experimenting with my homemade Steadycam, that is actually an alluminuim crutch!!!! When I first visited here in Feb. I came across a bloke birdwatching, and he pointed out,all the smaller birds, that are easily missed. These included - Treecreeper,Nuthatch,Blue tit,Great tit,Fieldfare, amongst the usual,Blackbirds,Robins e.t.c.Also on that first visit,I saw a Woodpecker, and down by the River a Kingfisher.Subsequent return visits, have never matched that first one,for bird life, but the trees are now in leaf, and perhaps they're just not as easily spotted? If the star of the show is the woods, then the co-star is our Sasha, our 12yr old German Shepherd, that we've had since Oct. 1999.She really is a Grand Old Lady, and has been much loved by everybody, and lived with my Parents for 5yrs or so,up until last Autumn, when my Father decided, she was getting to much for him.The plant life in the Woods is rather special too.The carpet of Bluebells, most notable, along with Wild Garlic, and a whole host of flowers, bushes, and trees that I couldn't begin to Identify, save the obvious,Oak,Sycamore e.t.c.and the area is criss-crossed with paths, enabling many walks, cycle rides e.t.c. beats sitting in a pub,or home watching T.V. any day of the week for Me........
The Mersey Forest presents The Elf & Fairy Fair
The Elf & Fairy Fair attracted hundreds of families to Sutton Manor Community Woodland in St.Helens for storytelling, Forest School workshops, crafts around the fire and more. Almost half of the 1,400 people who came along had never been to the woodland before.
The afternoon was organised by The Mersey Forest in partnership with Forestry Commission and St.Helens Council as part of Access to Nature, a national scheme run by Natural England and funded by the Big Lottery Fund. The Fair was also part-funded by the EU Interreg IVb programme, as part of the Pure Hubs project.

Most disturbing past of the haunted crank caverns
Crank Caverns is the common name of the remains of the Rainford Delph Quarry near Crank in St. Helens, Merseyside, England. It is a network of underground tunnels and caverns, as well as an extensive woodland. Information in the St. Helens local history archives states that sandstone quarrying began here as early as 1730. As the quarry expanded, the cost of purchasing land to open cast mine it increased, so it was decided to opt for a different method. Instead of quarrying out the stone, they would mine it out, following a seam of stone until it ran out. This resulted in the network of caves, tunnels and shafts we see today. Rainford Delph is listed as a Colliery by 1854, under the ownership of Charles Howarth or Yorkshire Charlie as he was known locally by 1880. Mining finally ceased and the woods and caverns were used as a game reserve by the Earl of Derby until 1939, when they became a storage facility for ammunition for the anti-aircraft position at Crank. After the war, the caverns ceased use as a game reserve. Today, Crank Caverns are not officially open to the public[1]and due to their increasing instability, attempts have been made to close access to the caverns and tunnels themselves. Despite this, the site is still physically accessible from a nearby public footpath and is still a draw for generations of curious locals who wish to explore, many having heard the numerous local myths and legends from an early age.
Myths and legends or creatures and Spirit.
There are numerous myths and legends associated with the caverns. The most well known is that during the Reformation local Catholics being persecuted by King Henry VIII (1491–1547) took shelter in the caverns and conducted secret mass there, but mining on the quarry only began in about 1730. Some stories report the caves running to, amongst other places, Up Holland in Lancashire, Church of St Mary, Lowe House in St. Helens and Moss Bank in St. Helens, another stated that there was in fact a tunnel running some seven miles from St. Helens Town Hall to Crank Caverns in order to conduct 'secret' hangings.
Vicious dwarves were once rumoured to inhabit a labyrinth of caverns in Crank. In the late 18th century four children decided to explore the sandstone caverns and vanished. One child survived and told a story about small old men with beards who killed his three friends and chased him. The petrified child stumbled over human bones in the caves and finally managed to scramble through an opening to the surface as a hand was grabbing at his ankle. The authorities were concerned because a number of people had gone missing in the area near the cave entrances. Two heavily armed soldiers descended into the caverns with torches and claimed that they not only found a heap of human bones, they also found the ruins of an ancient church of some unknown denomination. The interior of the church was lit by three large candles and grotesque gargoyles formed part of an altar. Throughout the exploration of the underground, the soldiers said they felt as if they were being watched, and also heard voices speaking in an unknown language. One report said that a child's head was found in a cave, along with evidence of cannibalism. After a second investigation, the caves either collapsed or gunpowder was used to seal them.

A walk around St Helen's Woods in Spring
On entering St Helen's Woods you could be forgiven for thinking you are be in the countryside miles away from anywhere, but this beautiful 104 acre estate is surrounded by housing in the middle of Hastings. These woods are hidden between the gentle slopes of a valley, with the sea a distant view to the south over the rooftops of Hastings. The shelter provided by the ancient gill woodland, the rare lowland meadows and abundant freshwater ponds support a rich and diverse selection of wildlife. Most of the site was designated a Local Nature Reserve in 1988 and is made up of over 53% lowland meadow, the rest being woodland. The video remembers Isobel Blackman who was the daughter of a local coal merchant. She used the money she had been left from her father's coal business to save the area from developers. Without her generosity, you would not be watching this video. Enjoy, and remember Isobel Blackman.

Running Around Grace Dieu Forest and Blackbrook Reservoir (England, UK)
Running Around Grace Dieu Forest and Blackbrook Reservoir! It's a great place to run, mountain bike and walk the dogs. If you go the right direction, you can find Blackbrook Reservoir by crossing only 1 road. Other way, leads into Whitwick woods. A good poarking spot will be the Bull's Head in Thringstone, or, the Swallowdale/Grace Dieu Road intersection in Thringstone.
Blackbrook Reservoir
Blackbrook Reservoir is a 33.4 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest between Shepshed and Whitwick in Leicestershire. The reservoir was constructed in 1796 in order to feed the Charnwood Forest Canal, which has long since vanished. The first dam constructed was an earthworks one, and this failed on 20 February 1799. In eleven minutes the reservoir was empty and as a result local farmland was ruined, sheep were drowned, and much of Shepshed and nearby Loughborough were affected by flood waters. The dam was repaired in 1801, but the canal was no longer commercially viable.
The present gravity dam was constructed in 1906 and was officially opened by the first Mayor of Loughborough Joseph Griggs. In 1957 the dam felt the effects of a magnitude 5.3 earthquake. The tremors caused heavy coping stones to shift and cracks appeared in the faces of the dam.
The reservoir has a plant community on its margins which is unique in the Midlands and only found in a few northern sites. Its unusual mix of flora includes Juncus filiformis at its most southern locations, and the lake itself has native white-clawed crayfish, where it is isolated from the invasive American signal crayfish. One Barrow Lane crosses the eastern end of the reservoir.
Grace Dieu Forest / Wood
A 1995 Tender Scheme success for North West Leicestershire District Council on the edge of Thringstone, this 3.7ha site is adjacent to existing Grace Dieu Wood. Formerly an arable field, the site creates a natural extension to Grace Dieu ancient woodland. Sycamore regeneration from Grace Dieu is being removed to allow the planted native species and self seeded native trees from the wood to grow on.
The rock feature on site consists of three different types of rock found in the area - magnesium limestone, Leicestershire granite and sandstone. Grace Dieu Priory, which is being managed as a visitor attraction at the gateway to the Forest, lies just to the north

Hamstead & Bouldnor Walk, Isle Of Wight Walks, England, UK
Hamstead & Bouldnor Walk, Isle Of Wight Walks, England, UK
Hamstead & Bouldnor Walk was about 5.5 miles in distance. The terrain of the route was a combination of field and woodland paths, tracks and stony drives, plus a pebble beach section and some swampy reed beds. The walking was easy, being mostly on level ground with a few gentle slopes. Route finding was quite easy with good paths and good waymarking. Care needs to be taken on boardwalks and the jetty in wet weather. There were about 10 stiles to negotiate.

Parkrun Run No.23
This video captured my PB on my 23rd Parkrun, a time I have beaten twice since.
Haigh Woodland Parkrun is a 1 lap trail course in the woodlands of Haigh Hall in Wigan, Lancashire.
The overall course elevation is around 260ft.
It is one of the tougher Parkrun courses in England.
Footage was captured on a Geekam S9R attached to a headmount. This version of the footage has not been stabilized. A stabilized version may appear one day on this channel. Apologies if it makes you nauseous. It would appear my head strap wasn't completely secure.
This course is both challenging and rewarding.. enjoy!

Urbex in a Ministry Of Defence Base Dorset UK
Part 1 of our Dorset series where I explore a abandoned ministry of defence Base and also discover a derelict bunker and deserted watch tower all left in a roman woodland in Dorset. The original footage of entering the Base was partly corrupted so I had to go back. On the first attempt I was chased by a guardian with a dog. Dorset is a lovely place and I cannot wait to show the rest of the series. Peace and happy hunting
WATCH ON THE FORESTS
That Christmas tree you buy from the shops - have you ever wondered where it was grown? Quite possibly it comes from one of the 500 forests maintained by the Forestry Commission. Their job is to take precautions against tree bandits at this time of year. Here, in the New Forest, 35,000 woodland acres have to be patrolled day and night.

Bold Forest Park | Interview Rick Rogers
St Helens is a town with a population of over 100,000 in the county of Merseyside, in England's northwest. To the south of the town is a mixed area with open spaces, agricultural land, woods and semi-derelict industrial sites. With the support of the European Pure Hubs programme, the next step of a dramatic transformation is taking place here, it all started towards the end of 80, dubbed from wasteland to woodland, and centred around the development of the Bold Forest Park for the benefit of all involved.
