A Frozen Weather Station Held His Father's Secrets
When he was 19, aAron Munson's father spent a bleak year working at the station — so the artist went there.

Alberta cinematographer and multimedia artist aAron Munson once read his father's diary from when he was 19 years old. In it was an entry from a year spent at a weather station near the North Pole. The words his father had written communicated bleakness, depression, even thoughts of suicide. So he decided to take a trip to the decommissioned station, called Isachsen, to find out what that year was like.
You'd just walk out and it would almost blow you right over, Munson says of being confronted by the snow and wind. Even being up there for a week, you could really start to empathize with what that experience was like.
Isachsen, the artist's new exhibition, tries to bring the feeling of being at the weather station to its viewers. Using photography, sound, video, installation and collaborations with artists David Hoffos, Dara Humniski and Gary James Joynes, the gallery space is transformed into a site that tells a story of solitude, loneliness and a strange kind of beauty. While acknowledging how dark the subject matter is, the artist confides: It's about presenting work that demonstrates that it's OK to be vulnerable.
On Munson's trip, he left only footprints behind. What Isachsen left with him, though, was an understanding of what even a small amount of time in isolation can do to the human mind.

Watch Ramin & Rokni Haerizadeh, & Hesam Rahmanian install 'All The Rivers Run Into The Sea. Over.'
Ramin and Rokni Haerizadeh are brothers who collaborate with Hesam Rahmanian to construct provocative installations that challenge conventional modes of display and standards of value. Persian street-theatre or Ta'ziyeh is a particularly important influence on their practice, with its use of props, theatricality, cross-dressing and irony. In the their installation 'All The Rivers Run Into The Sea. Over.' / 'Copy. Yet, The Sea Is Not Full. Over.' 2015 they recreate a version of their Dubai home-studio, with their own and other artists' works, found objects and bric-a-brac displayed in an over-the-top, domesticised installation that occupies and consumes the space of the gallery, blurring the boundaries between art and life. Every inch of the room is covered, including walls and floors, with no concern for hierarchy and preciousness. Their medley of influences ranges from satirical folk theatre, illuminated manuscripts, miniature painting and Persian poetry, to modernist art and pop culture.

Launch of Mark Garry An Afterwards at Luan Gallery, Athlone
Luan Gallery is delighted to announce its first exhibition of 2017 entitled An Afterwards which features the work of Irish installation artist Mark Garry. The exhibition, which features new work dedicated to the architectural design of Luan Gallery, launched on Saturday 11th February at 6pm.
A native of Mullingar, renowned contemporary installation artist Garry has created delicately considered site specific installations reflective of time spent visiting relatives in Athlone as a child. Garry says of his exhibition:
‘When approaching exhibition making I try to make works that respond both to architectural space and a social situation. While there are consistent materials and apparatus’ employed in each exhibition, I respond to each situation with a new set of conceptual criteria’.
Garry has held exhibitions at museums and art venues in Europe, North America, Australia and Asia and was one of the artists who represented Ireland at the 2005 Venice Biennale. Most recently Mark has exhibited at the Serpintine Gallery London, RHA Dublin, Whitebox Gallery New York, Galleria Civica di Modena Italy and The Hugh Lane Gallery and the Douglas Hyde Gallery. Garry’s work is held in many private and public collections including The Arts Council of Ireland, the collection of Arthur and Carol Goldberg and The Foundation to Life, New York.
This collection of new works by Garry dramatically transforms Luan Gallery, creating an environment that is at once considerate and quietly spectacular. The exhibition which is accompanied by a small publication written by Rachel Kilburn will run from February 11th until April 22nd 2017.

Welcome to the family NELIO !
Ozed. is proud to welcome Nelio in the Family !
Nelio. This is a character hard to describe in a few words. Self-taught man, he starts graffiti in the 90's, and trains drawing, before getting more and more keen on art history. Little by little, its practicing blended to turn into a particular universe.
Between abstract and representational, based on primitive geometrical shapes and lively colors, he describes us his vision of the world: Complex but playful. Influenced by architecture and the imaginary world of his childhood, he creates spaces which can almost be compared to Escher's world. This kind of abstract and timeless language brings us far from the urban reality which surrounds us.
Nowadays, his main workshops are public places. For him, this is a way to generalize the access to art, most of the time too much elitist. In this way, he offers us an alternative to the colorlessness of our cities and he returns pieces of life to some discarded places.
Finally, he merely aims at making us react, smile and even maybe think...

ART ATHINA 2016, Gallery Tableau, Interview with curator Junghyun Kang
Art-Athina 2016, 26 - 29 May
Faliron Pavilion (TaeKwonDo Stadium)
This year the International Meeting of Contemporary Art “Art-Athina 2016” celebrates its
20th edition! The greatest art event in Greece will open at the Faliro Pavilion (TaeKwonDo
Stadium) on Friday 27 May will run through Sunday 29 May.
Art-Athina is one of the oldest international art fairs collectively organised as well as firmly
established at the conscience of the art-loving audience. The 21st “Art-Athina” takes place
in a period of significant changes in the artistic field of Greece and forecasts a new era for
contemporary art in Greece.
The Hellenic Art Galleries Association, which instituted Art-Athina in 1993, as well as
EuroMare which organised the exhibition for the fourth consecutive year, have prepared a
commemorative event honoring the history of the art fair.
The Greek galleries and the galleries from abroad give, as always, their unique and vital
aspect in Art-Athina. 49 galleries from 13 countries provide a complete picture of the
contemporary artistic creation worldwide. It is also worth noting the increase in the
numbers of participants from abroad, which this year reached the 17, a 25% increase from
2015. In addition, cultural institutions such as museums, foundations, art publications and
media, will contribute to shaping a comprehensive view of the artistic landscape of our
times.

'The David Bromley Story' Exhibition, Gallery One 17 Nov 2011
'The David Bromley Story' - An Exhibition of Everything Bromley
12th November -- 3rd December 2011
To truly understand and appreciate David Bromley's Art, it is essential to immerse yourself in David Bromley's world, and this is what Gallery One will be exhibiting from 12th November for David's latest works in 'The David Bromley Story' Exhibition.
Gallery One is delighted to be holding David Bromley's only solo exhibition in Australia this year and his first ever exhibition on the Gold Coast. The challenge will be to recreate in our contemporary art space in Southport, this 'sense of the museum' interior that is the 'David Bromley Story'. On exhibition will be a collection of artwork, sculpture, collectables, embroideries, throws and much more including Bromley's latest foray into publishing -- 'A Picture Book First and Foremost', a three-volume set detailing in images, by renowned photographer Earl Carter, Bromley's children & nude artworks and images of his private studio world which gives us a glimpse of some of the environments that I work in and some of the people that flow through my life.
Bromley's work can be divided into two distinct themes: images of childhood adapted from the 1950-style illustrations in Boys Annuals, and images of the female nude inspired in part by the simple graphic approach of Pop Master Andy Warhol.
Bromley's portrayal of children is one of pure innocence The distinct imagery from Boys Own comics in their day served as moral tales for the young Bromley says. I find this imagery poignant in so many ways and a wonderful vehicle for telling tales of what it is to be alive and to be on the journey that is our life.
In contrast are Bromley's sensuous nudes with their perfect breasts, beguiling eyes and unadulterated femininity. The lines are sparse and reductive and the colours are cool, the palette often integrating planes of cold blues and metallic. For all that...there is a shimmering heat that emanates from these canvases...one can almost smell the warmth of their skin. Ashley Crawford
Not only does Bromley paint his images on canvas, he also recreates them in a variety of media including print, photography, fashion design, jewellery, ceramic, sculpture, embroidery, furniture, even surfboards. This extraordinary artistic energy can be summed up in Bromley's own words I work every day and every night. It's the glue that holds my life together. I figure there's not much time in a life and there's a lot to get out.
But it's not just his art that sets David Bromley apart from other artists. Bromley is a collector connoisseur. His world is his studio and his creativity extends into shaping the physical environment in which he lives and works. Art is so often made in vivacious or energetic environments, music blaring, clutter and personality (everywhere)says Bromley.
There are jugs and saxophones and busts and bowls, bits of old boats and farming equipment and a wonderful old grand piano. A grimacing ventriloquist dummy stares at aged diving helmets and carousel circus animals, escapees from a Russian carnival. The eye flicks from one mis en scene to the next, the whole framed by the wonderfully water-stained walls Ashley Crawford describing Bromley's Chapel St 1889 Victorian Second Empire-style studio/home. Bromley...has made the 20 odd rooms...into a life-scale installation where like Alice disappearing down the rabbit hole, we are wonderfully lost in a land of wonders.
Even in his early days as an artist Bromley would source interesting furniture from the bush and ship it back to London's Portobello Road to raise extra money. Since those early days Bromley has set up a string of outlets jam packed with Bromley's signature pieces -- vintage and industrial furniture, clocks, lighting and ephemera, striking Bromley paintings, sculptures and carvings. Even an enormous lighthouse sand sculpture and an army tent are pitched at the centre of Bromley's 'A Day on Earth' shed/retail warehouse at Daylesford in Victoria.
David Bromley was born in Sheffield, England in 1960 and immigrated to Australia when he was 4. He describes himself as a self-taught artist and is now considered one of Australia's 50 most collectable artists. He has held over 30 solo exhibitions in Australia, Asia, Europe and the USA and has been an Archibald finalist 6 times. His works are held in private, corporate and public collections.
