Stockport is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, 7 miles (11 km) south-east of Manchester city centre, where the River Goyt and Tame merge to create the River Mersey. The town of Stockport is the largest settlement in the metropolitan borough of the same name.
Historically, most of the town of Stockport was in Cheshire, but the area to the north of the Mersey was in Lancashire. Stockport in the 16th century was a small town entirely on the south bank of the Mersey, and known for the cultivation of hemp and manufacture of rope. In the 18th century the town had one of the first mechanised silk factories in the British Isles. However, Stockport's predominant industries of the 19th century were the cotton and allied industries. Stockport was also at the centre of the country's hatting industry, which by 1884 was exporting more than six million hats a year; the last hat works in Stockport closed in 1997.
Dominating the western approaches to the town is the Stockport Viaduct. Built in 1840, the viaduct's 27 brick arches carry the mainline railways from Manchester to Birmingham and London over the River Mersey. This structure featured as the background in many paintings by L. S. Lowry.
The Manchester orbital M60 motorway and A6 road to London cross at Stockport. Stockport railway station is a mainline station on the Manchester spur of the West Coast Main Line. Stockport is connected with Central London by Virgin Trains with services departing every twenty minutes and also has inter-city services to Sheffield, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol and other major cities. Stockport Tiviot Dale station also served the town centre between 1865 and 1967, lying on routes from Liverpool, Derby and Sheffield. The station site now lies under the M60 motorway.Stockport bus station, which serves as a terminus for many services across the borough, is one of the largest and busiest bus stations in Greater Manchester.

79_Wheeeee Locks
We leave Wheelock and start our journey up the Cheshire Locks, commonly known as Heartbreak Hill where Pat does some locking! The canal becomes quite rural with small settlements lining the canal at intervals, Wheelock, Malkins Bank, Hassall Green and Rodes Heath, all to a large extent depended on the former salt works that originally lined the canal banks. Here patches of new housing can be seen mixing with old terraced cottages and wharfs but we also have fine views of the Cheshire Plain. We finally moor at Rode Heath, next to Rode Heath Rise, an open space with meadows and a woodland on the site of a former salt works.

Agatha Christie - Miss Marple - A Murder is Announced - Part 3 - Audio Book
Agatha Christie Audio Book,
Miss Marple - A Murder is Announced
Part 3
A notice appears in the paper of Chipping Cleghorn: A murder is announced and will take place on Friday, October 29th, at Little Paddocks, at 6.30 pm. Friends accept this, the only intimation. This surprises Letitia Blacklock, owner of Little Paddocks; however, she takes it in stride and prepares for guests that evening. The villagers are intrigued by the notice, and several of them appear with awkward reasons but definite interest. As the clock strikes 6.30, the lights go out and a door swings open, revealing a man with a blinding torch who demands the guests Stick 'em up! Most do so, believing it to be part of a game, but the game ends when shots are fired into the room. When the lights turn on, Miss Blacklock's ear is bleeding, from a bullet grazing her earlobe, and the gunman is dead on the ground. Dora Bunner (Bunny) recognizes the gunman as Rudi Scherz, a foreigner who works as a receptionist at a local hotel, and who had asked Letitia for money a few days ago.
Murder Must Wait by Arthur W. Upfield
In the little town of Mitford, four babies have disappeared, and Detective-Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte must find them. When the fifth baby disappears, its mother is found dead beside the empty crib, but for once, Murder Must Wait.
The Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte Novels #17 1953
Arthur William Upfield was an Australian writer, best known for his works of detective fiction featuring Detective Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte ('Bony') of the Queensland Police Force, a half-caste Aborigine. Born in England, Upfield moved to Australia in 1910 and fought with the Australian military during the First World War. Following his war service, he travelled extensively throughout Australia, obtaining a knowledge of Australian Aboriginal culture that would later be used extensively in his written works. In addition to his detective fiction, Upfield was also a member of the Australian Geological Society and was involved in numerous scientific expeditions. Upfield's works remained popular after his death, and in the 1970s were the basis for an Australian television series entitled Boney.

Hardings Wood Junction (grid reference SJ834546) is a canal junction near Kidsgrove, Staffordshire, England and the point at which the Macclesfield Canal (or, historically, the Hall Green Branch) joins the Trent and Mersey Canal. It opened in 1831.History[edit]
The Trent and Mersey Canal was authorised by an Act of Parliament in 1766, and construction began at once. After rising through 40 locks from Shardlow on the River Trent, the 93-mile (150 km) canal had a short summit section, most of which was through the 2,897-yard (2,649 m) Harecastle Tunnel, before it began its descent through another 36 locks to reach Preston Brook and the Bridgewater Canal. It was completed in 1777.[1]
From the time of its opening, there were plans for a canal through Macclesfield, but no firm action was taken until 1824. Thomas Telford produced a survey in 1825, and an Act of Parliament was obtained in 1826, but although it was based on Telford's design, he did not oversee the work, which was managed by William Crosley.[2] At the same time, Brindley's original tunnel at Harecastle was sinking, and Telford's new tunnel was authorised in 1823, which would be larger than the old one, and would incorporate a towpath. It was slightly longer, at 2,926 yards (2,676 m) but was completed in just over two years, opening on 16 March 1827.[3] The Trent and Mersey were keen to ensure that none of their limited water supply was lost to the Macclesfield Canal, and obtained an Act of Parliament in 1827, which gave them powers to build the first 1.5 miles (2.4 km) of it, to Hall Green Stop Lock. They insisted that the water level of the Macclesfield canal should be maintained 1 foot (0.30 m) higher than their section, which was known as the Hall Green Branch, so that water passed from the Macclesfield Canal, rather than to it. The canal, and hence the junction, opened in 1831.[4][5]
Location[edit]
The junction lies close to the northern portal of the Harecastle Tunnel. The Trent and Mersey Canal turns to the west after leaving the tunnel, and the Hall Green Branch initially turns off to the south. There is a sharp right-hand bend, after which it runs parallel to the main line, which descends through two locks. There is then another sharp right-hand bend, and the branch crosses over the main line on an aqueduct. The Macclesfield Canal is 26.1 miles (42.0 km) long from the stop lock to Marple Junction, and ascends through a single flight of 12 locks, located 9 miles (14 km) from the stop lock. Since both canals are now managed by British Waterways, the Hall Green Branch is usually considered to be part of the Macclesfield Canal.[6][5] The summit level of the Trent and Mersey is 5.5 miles (8.9 km) long, and ends close to the junction at lock 41. Travelling south, the other end of the summit is at lock 40, just after Etruria Junction, where the Caldon Canal joins the main line.[7]

Do NOT crown your teeth! - Must watch before dental work!
Dr. O explains the issues involved in crowning front teeth and what treatment would be preferred for your smile.
PROBLEMS WITH CROWNING FRONT TEETH:
1st - Too Aggressive - often, too much tooth structure is removed for a traditional crown prep.
2nd - Altered Biting Surface - The healthiest bite is when natural teeth connect rather than restorations against natural teeth. Abnormal may result from the altered biting surface.
3rd - Unfavorable Lateral forces - The direction of the chewing forces are potential very damaging on a weakened front tooth that is missing all of the enamel.
The latest technology allows dentists to prepare teeth more conservatively with the ability to restore in-office the same day without goopy impressions and sending off to a lab. This is much safer for your teeth. Veneers and 3/4 crowns (Partial Crowns) that preserve the back side of your front teeth are a much better solution.
