Stop 4: Russian victory in Ireland at midway stop of 2012 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series

Some Irish luck with the weather and the excellent performances of the 14 athletes in harsh, but country-typical conditions combined in Saturday's fourth stop of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2012 on the all-natural island of Inis Mór off the Irish west coast. With the day's highest score for a single dive of 176.90 points, Russia's Artem Silchenko took his second consecutive win ahead of Orlando Duque, who leads the overall standings going into the second half of the season. The 700 Irish fans who have won tickets to watch the competition that has been the talk of the town paid great respect to the cliff diving elite, who used the 28m between take-off and landing for their high dives into the rectangular Serpent's Lair.

EPISODE 035: The one where I spend a couple epic days on Ireland's Aran Islands (Inis Mor), hiking and biking in the early shoulder season. I was lucky enough to catch Dún Aonghasa (Dun Aengus) at before the crowds, The Black Fort cliffs before sunset, and the Wormhole without a soul in sight. Ireland is truly beautiful, but the Aran Isles take it up a notch with their seclusion if you catch them at the right time. Cheers!

Poll Na bPéist (The Wormhole) is a perfectly rectangular shaped pool which is connected to the Atlantic by an underground channel. Located near the village of Gort na gCapall, on the south-west edge of Inishmore about mile from Dun Aengus.

The third stop of the 2014 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series took place at Poll na bPeist (the Serpent's Lair) on the island of Inis Mór, the largest of the the Aran Islands off the coast of Galway, Ireland on 28th and 29th June 2014. This video was of day 2.

Inis Mór - Worm Hole

Who built a huge swimming pool under the cliffs? From the map this unadvertised pool looks pretty close to Dun Aengus, so after Aengus I tried to stay close to the cliffs and soon I found the red arrows on the rocks leading to the Worm Hole. You can walk above and around the Hole when waves are not too high. Amazing place.

24 Hours on Ireland's Aran Islands

Stark and treeless in many areas, Ireland's Aran islands are quite different from the rest of the country. Close to Galway, they're a wonderful place to visit, despite the sometimes rolling ferry ride to reach them.
