IS SÃO PAULO SAFE? ???????? The Real Brazil ????????
In this week’s video from São Paulo , we travel around the city to some of the major tourist attractions and assess whether or not they are safe.
We start things off at the São Paulo Cathedral in Centro where for the first time in all our times filming, we felt like we shouldn’t take our big filming camera out, instead we filmed on an iPhone. There were plenty of people around, including police officers and a lot of other tourists but we also felt like there were a lot of people watching and scooping the area. We also made our way into the beautiful cathedral to explore it.
Later we made our way just up the street to the Liberdade area of São Paulo, which happens to have the largest Japanese population outside of Japan. We felt much safer here. Of course, while in the area we had to have some sushi and Japanese cuisine.
Later in the day we headed to one of the main streets in the whole city called Paulista Avenue. Because it was the weekend, the entire street was shut down for pedestrians, bikers, scooters and skateboarders. There were also loads of street performers and vendors.
Lastly we headed back to our very nearby hotel, the InterContinental São Paulo to show you around our One bedroom Executive Suite and the amenities of the hotel.

ABOUT SAO PAULO
São Paulo, Brazil’s vibrant financial center, is among the world's most populous cities, with numerous cultural institutions and a rich architectural tradition. Its iconic buildings range from its neo-Gothic cathedral and the 1929 Martinelli skyscraper to modernist architect Oscar Niemeyer’s curvy Edifício Copan. The colonial-style Pátio do Colégio church marks where Jesuit priests founded the city in 1554.

Our visit São Paulo travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (best restaurants and street food), top museums and São Paulo at night. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities you won't find in a typical São Paulo tourism brochure or São Paulo, Brasil city tour.
20 Things to do in São Paulo, Brazil Travel Guide and Top Attractions Video Transcript:
Within the park grounds you’ll find the Afro-Brasil Museum, which is a contemporary museum that looks at African culture and influence in Brazilian society. And not too far from there, you’ll come across the Museum of Modern Art.
Batman Alley is located in Vila Madalena and it has become a popular tourist and Instagram spot. Apparently the place gets its name because the first piece of graffiti to go up was one of Batman back in the 1980s.
If you’re a football lover, this is a place you won’t want to miss.
Being the foodies that we are, we couldn’t skip the Municipal Market. Here you can find exotic fruits, fresh vegetables, meats, spices and even restaurants. We went there right around the lunch hour to try the famed mortadella sandwich.
From there, we visited Sao Paulo Cathedral. We only learned this after our visit, but there’s a crypt you can visit.
Next up we headed to the neighbourhood of Liberdade, which has the largest Japanese community in the world outside of Japan. We decided to hit up a sushi buffet for some food!
That evening we met up with our Brazilian friends, who took us out for a night on the town.
That morning we visited Pinacoteca do Estado, which is a cool art museum that focuses on works by Brazilian artist or works with Brazilian subject matter.
After that we headed over to Parque da Luz. This park is right next to the museum and it has a lot of interesting sculptures scattered about.
Sao Paulo’s Teatro Municipal first opened in 1911. The Martinelli building is 30 stories high and it was the first skyscraper in South America.
And that’s a quick look at how we spent 2 days in Sao Paulo. We hope you enjoyed this guide and that it gave you some ideas on how to tackle South America’s largest city. As always, if you have any other suggestions of fun things to do in Sao Paulo, feel free to share those with us in the comments below.
This is part of our Travel in Brazil video series showcasing Brazilian food, Brazilian culture and Brazilian cuisine.

1. Don't expect to get anywhere quickly in Sao Paulo. With so many people, cars and craziness it will take you longer than what google says it will to get anywhere.
2. Don't skip the Mercado Municipal! This Sao Paulo tradition is amazing. From amazing fruit to the best bologna or sorry Mortadella sandwich you ever ate.
3. Don't skip out on eating non-Brazilian food while in Sao Paulo. There are tons of amazing places, foods, restaurants and styles for you to enjoy!
4. Don't lose your wits. Pay attention! Sao Paulo has a reputation for crime for a reason.
5. Don't expect a beach vacation. Sao Paulo is not a Brazilian beach city, it is a cultural, shopping, museum, business hub for South America.

Elton John - Skyline Pigeon - Live in São Paulo, Brazil
Originally released on Elton John’s debut album in 1969, “Skyline Pigeon” was re-recorded three years later – this time with Elton playing piano instead of harpsichord. This new 1972 version would become a big hit and an Elton signature song in Brazil. Elton has described the track as one of the first great songs that he and Bernie Taupin wrote together. This version is taken from the Allianz Parque concert in São Paulo, Brazil, on April 6th 2017.

The Municipal Market of São Paulo is a large public market in São Paulo, Brazil.[1][2] It was designed by the architect Francisco Ramos de Azevedo and inaugurated on January 25, 1933, as a wholesale and retail post specializing in fruits, vegetables, cereals, meats, spices, and other food products. The market is located in the Mercado neighborhood, a name that references the market, in the historic center of São Paulo. It is located near the Tamanduateí River in the old Várzea do Carmo, a floodplain of the river now primarily used as Dom Pedro II Park. The market was formally named the Mercado Municipal São Paulo in 1995.[3] It is commonly known in São Paulo as the Mercadão, or big market, and a noted meeting point for resident São Paulo and one of the most visited tourist spots in the city.
6 - Paulista Avenue
Paulista Avenue (Avenida Paulista in Portuguese, Paulista being the demonym for those born in São Paulo state) is one of the most important avenues in São Paulo, Brazil.[1] It stretches 2.8 kilometers (1.7 mi) and runs northwest to southeast.
It is also home to an extensive shopping area and to South America's most comprehensive fine-art museum, MASP. Being one of the highest points in São Paulo, it is clustered with radio and TV stations antennae, most notably that of Rede Gazeta. Paulista Avenue is a major hub of the subway and bus lines of the city.

São Paulo Carnival: Partying to protest Bolsonaro | Unreported World
Unreported World is at carnival where Brazil’s LGBTQI community are partying on the streets of São Paulo. But for them, this year’s carnival has become more of a protest against the newly elected president Jair Bolsonaro. The so-called ‘Trump of the tropics’ has a history of making homophobic comments, and his supporters are now determined to enforce family values.
Seyi Rhodes is in the city to see how these opposing sides are battling for very different visions of Brazil’s future.
