Yellow Emperor Worship Ceremony Held in Central China Province

The 2017 Ancestor Worship Ceremony was held on Thursday in the Yellow Emperor's birthplace -- Xinzheng City, Central China's Henan Province.

Following the 9-agenda rule, the grand ceremony was conducted in nine rites and services, such as gun salute, flower basket laying, incense burning, worship rite, worship test recitation, singing of eulogy, musical instrument playing and dancing, praying for the happiness of the Chinese nation and for the harmony between man and nature.

Participating were around 8,000 overseas Chinese, foreign nationals of Chinese origin and representatives from across the Taiwan Straits.

Vice-chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT) Chen Chen-hsiang, said: We are all descendants of Emperor Yan(another legendary ancient Chinese ruler) and Emperor Huang. In the past, we worshiped the Yellow Emperor [Emperor Huang] in Taiwan far from his birthplace. Today, I am greatly touched to have joined the grand gathering in Xinzheng. I am very much expecting that the holy spirit of the Yellow Emperor could bless and protect lasting peace, prosperity and abundance of life for the people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

The grand worship ceremony was initiated in 2006 and it has been held annually since then. It was inscribed in the national intangible cultural heritage list in 2008. Yellow Emperor is regarded as the initiator of the Chinese civilization and the legendary ancestor of the nation.

Chinese people worship legendary ancestor Huangdi| CCTV English

Nearly 10,000 Chinese people from more than 40 countries and regions attended a grand ceremony Sunday morning in central China's Henan Province to worship the legendary ancestor Huangdi, or the Yellow Emperor. Huangdi is believed to have been born in the county-level city of Xinzheng, which is now governed by Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province. He is regarded as the common ancestor of all Chinese people, so worshipping Huangdi is a tradition in China. The ceremony for ancestor worship in Huangdi's hometown has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage by the State Council.
