This is the home of the Mitsubishi Zaibatsu. Mitsubishi was established in 1873 by Yataro Iwasaki. It was originally a shipping company but quickly expanded into mining, banking and insurance. In the 1920 Mitsubishi expanded further into aircraft manufacturing. The Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter is probably the most famous aircraft built.
This building was built by Yataro's son. Design is Josiah Condor.

Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Gardens - Machi-log

In 1896, Kyu Iwasaki-tei was built as the residence of Hisaya Iwasaki, the third lord of Iwasaki family which was the founder of Mitsubishi group.
When the building was completed, the grounds comprised 49500㎡ and more than 20 buildings.
Three buildings remain and the whole residence and measured map were designated as important cultural assets.
An English architect Josiah Condor designed a two story western-style building of wood and it gave a big influence on Japanese residential architecture.

The Mitsubishi Group (三菱グループ? Mitsubishi Gurūpu, also known as the Mitsubishi Group of Companies or Mitsubishi Companies, and informally as the Mitsubishi Keiretsu) is a group of autonomous Japanese multinational companies in a variety of industries. Its total revenue is about 1.4% percent of Japan's GDP.[1]
It is historically descended from the Mitsubishi zaibatsu, a unified company which existed from 1870 to 1947 and was disbanded during the occupation of Japan following World War II. The former constituents of the company continue to share the Mitsubishi brand, trademark, and legacy. Although the group companies participate in limited business cooperation, most famously through monthly Friday Conference executive meetings, they are formally independent and are not under common control. The three main companies in the group are The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (the largest bank in Japan), Mitsubishi Corporation (a general trading company) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (a diversified manufacturing company).
