Mission to Seafarers - Australia
This video is a very brief introduction to the work of the Mission to Seafarers in Australia.
Over the years the Mission has sought to help seafarers in all kinds of practical ways.
These men and women are away from their families for long periods and they may face loneliness, sickness, injury and injustice.
The welcome from the MTS Chaplains and volunteers may be the only onshore hospitality they receive.

The text which accompany the images are based on the passage in Matthew 25: 35-36

'Written By The Sea' Exhibition The Mission to Seafarers Melbourne 2012
'Written by the Sea' uses photography to explore the extraordinary abstractions that can be discovered on the surface of boats.
As boats are repaired fascinating textures and patterns are revealed through cut back wood, fibreglass and paintwork.
Using considered framing Darron Davies' photography reveals intriguing stories that can be found on the surface of boats - images that are metaphors, allusions to other worlds; like abstract expressionist paintings in the every day.
Darron Davies is a Castlemaine based photographer who draws upon images from Melbourne, Geelong and Auckland boatyards.
Prints are 30x40 cm archival and are pigment printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper within conservation frames. The archive of photographs available for exhibiting is over 100.

Exhibited in the beautiful Dome Gallery at the Mission to Seafarers , 717 Flinders St, Docklands, Melbourne. This extraordinary building was once a gymnasium used by seafarers and is now a dedicated gallery space. Note the beautiful sounds within the space including seagulls from outside:
This work would not have been possible without the generous support of yachting clubs such as the Hobsons Bay Yacht Club, Geelong Western Beach Boat Club, Sandringham Yacht Club, Royal Brighton Yacht Club and numerous clubs in Auckland, NZ.

The Seafarers Bridge is a footbridge over the Yarra River between Docklands and South Wharf in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
The bridge connects the north and south banks of the river while providing a formal entrance to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The bridge main span is supported by steel ties connected to elliptical arches, with three arches on the north side and four arches on the south side.
