One of Wales’ forgotten dark days is brought to life in this large-scale promenade show through the streets of Mold with a cast of 100.

Junkyard – A New Musical
29 March - 15 April 2017
Book & Lyrics by Jack Thorne | Music by Stephen Warbeck | Directed by Jeremy Herrin
1979. Rick remembers what it’s like to be a teenager. So when he decides to build a junk playground in Bristol, he’s pretty sure he has the charisma to get a bunch of reluctant kids involved. He’s wrong.
A brilliantly honest and witty new musical from BAFTA Award-winning writer Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, This is England ‘90, National Treasure), with a score by Academy Award-winning composer Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare in Love, Wolf Hall, Jerusalem), and directed by Evening Standard Award-winner Jeremy Herrin (Wolf Hall, People, Places and Things, This House).
A coming-of-age story about friendship and standing up for what matters.

Theatre Clwyd Community Producer, Alice Evans Speaking to Andy Snowden
Theatre Clwyd Community Advisor, Alice Evans, Speaking to 'Andy Snowden' on 105 Calon FM discussing the up & coming mammoth production, commemorating 150 years since 'The Mold Riots'.
The Search is on for Volunteers for Historical Dramatisation of the Mold Riots
This October Theatr Clwyd will stage its first major community production on the streets of Mold.
Mold Riots will have a cast of over 100 and take over the town centre for performances which will retell the story of the Mold Riots of 1869, marking the 150th anniversary of the disturbances. Tensions between English and Welsh miners erupted in riots which left four people dead. This new large-scale show will lead its audience through the same streets where the riots took place.
Now the search is on for volunteers to get involved in every aspect of staging and performing this ambitious theatrical event.
There is the opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to join the community company of actors and develop acting skills, working alongside a professional team. Open auditions will be held for aspiring performers early in May. If acting isn’t for you, but movement is your thing then pop along to the dance/movement group.
Getting involved in the production is a way to learn new skills. Monthly workshops in stage combat, acting, movement and storytelling will take place at St Mary’s Church Hall in Mold and are an opportunity to meet others taking part.
Singing is also a big part of the show, with a brand new score being specially written for a new Mold Riots community choir which local people are warmly invited to join.
If performance isn’t for you then why not get behind the scenes? Applications are invited for a Director, Musical Director, stage managers, designers and members of the production team. Just send in 300 words about you and why you would like to be involved.
There are also lots of other ways to take part. Playwright Bethan Marlow, who has written the show’s script, would like to work with aspiring writers, who have the chance to contribute to the script.
Under the guidance of a professional photographer, Theatr Clwyd is keen for amateur photographers and film makers to document the making of the show from the beginning of rehearsals until the first performance, with the opportunity to learn new skills and experiment with digital media.
Costumes are needed for over 100 company actors, so dust off the sewing machines and dig out a thimble! Volunteers are invited to join the professional team of makers at the theatre and help create all elements of costume for the show. There is also a knitting group, supported by Yarn O’Clock in Mold, who will provide knitted rocks for an art installation.
The fun begins now. To get involved in the Mold Riots go to theatrclwyd.com and sign-up today or call the theatre box office on 01352 701521. To find out more about any aspect of volunteering and participation in Mold Riots please contact alice.evans@theatrclwyd.com
The Theatr Clwyd airstream caravan will be at Mold Market every week and at other events in the area for anyone to drop in and find out more. Just look out for the distinctive silver van with the theatre logo. There is also a shed in the theatre foyer, loaned by The Woodworks Garden Centre, where information is available and there is the opportunity to sign-up at any time.

Grav Trailer - Welsh Tour 2016
Torch Theatre Production 'Grav' Tour 2016
In October 2007 Ray Gravell, a man who for many embodied what it is to be Welsh, passed away after succumbing to complications resulting from contracting diabetes. He was 56 years old.
Known to millions for his legendary exploits on the rugby field, ‘Grav’ was and is so much more than that. An actor, a cultural icon, a father, a husband, a man with a life packed full of stories that deserve to be heard once more.
The Torch Theatre Company presents Gareth Bale as ‘Grav’ in a play written by Owen Thomas that celebrates the man and the legend. With the blessing of Mari, Ray’s widow, and contributions from his Welsh and British Lions team mates, this one man show will explore the life of a man who was as fascinating away from the rugby field as he was on it.
Directed by the Torch Theatre’s Artistic Director Peter Doran, ‘Grav’ will remind the world once more of a unique life well lived and of a man who did so much more than eat soft centres.
This production is directed by Peter Doran, written by Owen Thomas and performed by Gareth Bale.
Following the performances at the Torch Theatre Tues 9 - Sat 13 Feb 'Grav' will go on a 18 date tour of Wales in 2016.
To book tickets visit our dedicated Grav website gravcymru.co.uk or call the venues to book directly.
