I spent 2 nights at Hyakurakuso Ryokan with my parents when they came and visited me in Japan, and it did not disappoint!
Hyakurakuso is located in my town and offers local Japanese cuisine, scenic and cave baths, and even private fishing in Tsukumo Bay! I highly recommend staying if you have the chance. The staff was also very friendly and very young and beautiful (I am used to seeing only schoolchildren or people over the age of 65 in my town so it was quite the surprise). Overall, an amazing experience.

Yamashiro Onsen is one of the largest hot spring resorts in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, an area in the Hokuriku region facing the Sea of Japan.
Yamashiro Onsen has a history of over 1,300 years and has retained much of the traditional culture. The soyu (public bathhouses) in the town center in the area called Yunogawa was built in the Edo period (1603-1867). Ko-soyu, also in Yunogawa, is a reproduction of a century-old soyu.
The region is also the home of world-renowned Kutani-yaki (Kutani ware porcelain) of which fine examples are exhibited in the museum. The old ryokans with red latticework and the traditional houses give the area its authentic feel of historical Japan with an artistic atmosphere.

Hiked up Mt. Iwate via the Nanataki Course over Onigajo (The Demon's Castle) and then down Umagaeshi on October 27th, 2019.
As per requests in previous video comments, I did not wear a bear bell, but instead periodically did my bear-scare call, and of course carried bear spray, otherwise known as pepper spray.

Japan has no shortage of beautiful temples and shrines; places like Nara, Kyoto, Ise, and Nikko are must see tourist destinations due to their noteworthy temples, and Japan's temples and shrines are the main draw for many tourists. However, while those are all worthwhile places to explore, Eiheiji temple (永平寺) in Fukui Prefecture manages to stand out. While all temples and shrines are of course places of worship, Eiheiji is also a monastery that houses and trains over 200 monks and nuns. For those curious about Buddhism, it is an interesting place to visit. As it is the largest training monastery in Japan, it is fairly unique, and visiting is a great way to familiarize yourself with Zen Buddhism. Even those who are less interested in religion will no doubt be awed by this gorgeous temple.
Eiheiji, along with Soji-ji in Kanagawa, is one of the head Soto temples, and it is the primary training temple. Training takes anywhere from three months to two years. The 200 or so monks in residence lead a simple life, each with only one tatami mat to sleep and meditate on. Their day starts very early at 3:30 AM for meditation and sutras, followed by chores, simple meals, and more zazen. The life of a monk is often a silent one as they are forbidden from talking in the Zazen hall, the baths, and the toilet. Every five days, priests shave each other's heads and then bathe. Of course, even the baths are preceded by chants, and there is even a small altar dedicated to a bodhisattva who achieved enlightenment through his bath.
