Volcanic Sand Bath Experience ★ ONLY in JAPAN
VOLCANIC SAND BATH? YES!! Welcome to Ibusuki, Kagoshima!
In this episode, John travels to Kagoshima prefecture on the bottom of Kyushu to visit this unique style of onsen. It's call “suna mushi onsen” (砂むし温泉) in Japan. This style of Volcanic Sand Bath is only in Ibusuki, Kagoshima.
There are several health benefits associated to suna mushi onsen.
★ Good for the skin
★ Improves blood circulation
★ Increases your metabolism
★ Relaxation
The sand is on average 50 to 55 degrees Celsius (~122 F) and that heat can be adjusted for children (cooler) -- or hotter for those who can take the heat.
The recommended time limit in the sand bath is 10 minutes although I like to stay under for 15 minutes. You can stay as long as you like but to be honest, you can't stay over 15-20 minutes because your skin and body just can't manage it.
After the sand bath, you rinse off, return to blue yukata robe and soak in an onsen if you like.
The whole experience is only 1080 yen.
A small towel is 120 yen. Lockers and a yukata are included.
Getting to Kagoshima:
Flight: I flew SKYMARK airlines for 9,800 yen but ANA and JAL also fly to Kagoshima from Tokyo as well as Osaka / Kansai.
Train:
Kagoshima is now linked by the Shinkansen like from Tokyo but it takes about 7-8 hours with a change of trains in either Hakata (Fukuoka).
Bus: There are night buses from Osaka, Fukuoka and Tokyo.
I recommend flying though.

I had been traveling almost all around Japan and finally came to an in credible place in the south part of the country. The Takachio Gorge looks like a paradise and I had to explore more of the amazing nature.
Takachio Gorge is located in Takachio, a city with 12000 people. There are incredible mountains surrounding the city, but even more incredible views down in the valley.

Takachiho, Miyazaki, Japan
The spectacular steep walls of the Takachiho Gorge were formed by columnar jointing, due to the rapid cooling of an ancient lava flow that filled the narrow valley of the Gokase River after an eruption of the Mt. Aso volcano.
The Takachiho Gorge was designated a National Scenic and Natural Monument in November 10, 1934.

And, ring that bell like it's Christmas morning! (Also, because I hear they don't celebrate Xmas the same here . . .)
You ever have something super hectic happen, even though you had a plan, but then your plans change, and yet the gods that control the Japanese weather decide mortals need another reminder of their feebleness?
Well, that's pretty much what happened here!
We had heard, literally the day before, confirmation that this day was going to be THE LAST EVER Sunflower Festival held in Takanabe. Like. Ever. Like ever, man.
So, we rushed up there all the way from Kushima (where we live now, and very nearly almost biked the 100km+), in order to beat the Category 2 Hurricane equivalent Typhoon that was blowing in the next day. Not wanting to die, we got a ride from our new friend Gaku, who was kind enough to take us.
And, when we arrived . . .
We discovered that all the PREVIOUS typhoons that have been wrecking southern Japan with weeks worth of nonstop torrential rains, heavy winds, and dark skies have caused this year's sunflower crop to be a bit down in the dumps. Seriously, apparently this season has been exceptionally, uncharacteristically rainy and storm filled, and has caused some notable landslides in the Kumamoto area. Now, this place is known for having weather like this, but it's also known for being THE sunniest place in Japan, hence the sunflowers.
Yet, I'm glad we made it! And, I'm even more glad to discover that the festival WILL BE CONTINUING! Yippee! So, now all of us will have many more chances to see the sunflowers in their full, turgid glory.
But, wanting to make a day out of our roadtrip through Miyazaki Prefecture, we also made a stop at one of Gaku's favorite udon restaurants. This was my first time ever trying udon, but I've always wanted to taste the cold variety!
Just as well, on our way back, we made a nice long stop at the Summer Night Market in Aoshima, just south of Miyazaki city proper. This Night Market is a gorgeous affair, lined with candle-lit lanterns across a seaside park, speckled with local vendor booths, and sporting plenty of live music. Plus, it's near some top-notch botanical gardens that are worth browsing. Though I suspect, unless you can read Japanese halfway decently, you may have some difficulty. But, if memory serves, there are English accommodations as well!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this shorter video and are excited for more to come! Thanks for watching, and experiencing Japan in Tandem.

???? Bathhouse (Spirited Away) - 1 Hour - Ghibli ASMR Soundscape
???? Better with headphones ????
Hey ! Welcome to a new soundscape of Spirited away.
This time, I imagined myself in the bathhouse, next to spirits getting massages and baths.
The Bathhouse is inspired by Onsen in Japan, which are thermal baths with hot water directly from volcanics springs, placed on the outside. The water is generally reputed to have therapeutic properties, linked to the minerals present in it. Onsen are also a kind of hotel, where it is possible to eat and sleep.
It is most of the time a place where people come to relax, or to relieve stress after a day of work.
So I find it very contrasting with the tension and greed that reigns in the Spirited away’s Bathhouse, especially the scene where the spirit of the river leaves after being released and leaves full of gold nuggets, which can easily be shared with everyone. But Yubaba orders his employees to pick them up for her. I find this scene very disturbing. And also, we have several other clues, like Lin who wants to get out of here et go to the city, or Kamaji who calls himself “slave” and Haku who is enslaving by Yubaba… It reminds me a little bit of the current privatization of hospitals in France.
Today, many hospitals are privatizing themselves and becoming factories, sometimes forgetting the values of health and equal access to care, to become just another way to make money… I have done several internships in hospitals and that the reason I don’t want to work in it. So maybe this is where the criticism is made in the movie ?
BUT I wanted to make a relaxing soundscape anyway, both peaceful and cheerfull :)
I hope you will notice the train passing by sometimes !
ASMR soundscapes are usually use to create a soothing atmosphere for relaxation purposes, helping studying, meditation, etc... as you wish.
I hope you enjoy it.

Geto Hot Spring - Iwate - 夏油温泉 - 4K Ultra HD
Geto Onsen is a traditional ryokan offering the chance to anyone visiting to enjoy a natural open-air hot spring bath in the earth of the Yakeishi mountains in Kurikoma Quasi-National Park.
Founded in 1134 near by a crystal clear river, the five open air baths of Geto Onsen used to be very popular in the past. But because of its really remote location, an aging population and totally inaccessibility without a car, it gets ignored by foreign tourists. Geto Onsen is slowly dying. Many ryokans around the area now closed and the only ones still open offer only the bare minimum.
It is really sad to see this amazing natural onsen fade away little by little. Despite the spartan accommodations available in the area, I would encourage anyone visiting Iwate to give Geto Onsen a chance.

The Sarojin Resort in Phuket, Thailand is one of the most luxurious resorts in the world, and has been consistently rated as one of the most luxurious small hotels in Asia. These are located in Austria’s Starkenbeger brewery in a 700-year-old castle that has been converted to a wonderland for aficionados. 10. Gellert Thermal Baths, Hungary
Gellert Thermal Baths in Budapest are one of the oldest and most famous public bathhouses which are still in operation! The history of the baths tells the story of the history of Hungary itself.
9. San Alfonso del Mar, Chile
San Alfonso del Mar Resort took five years to build and cost a staggering $2 billion. Located in Algarrobo, a resort town on the southern coast of Chile, San Alfonso del Mar was ranked as the world’s largest pool by Guinness World Records in 2008. 6. Lev Leviev Residence, United Kingdom
Like Hearst Castle, the Lev Leviev Residence is the private home of Israeli billionaire Lev Leviev. It is located in North London, which is a prime location for the rich to build their homes. Inaugurated in the year 2008, it is the most expensive home in the United Kingdom, costing about $68 million to build.

11. Infinity Pool at Marina Bay Sands
Imagine taking a relaxing rooftop swim surrounded by one of the most breathtaking city skyline views! The Infinity Pool at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore is all about luxury and is the world’s longest suspended swimming pool. At nine times the length of an Olympic swimming pool, it’s also the world’s largest infinity pool, which means plenty of room for you and everyone else and not feel squished!
10. Ubud Hanging Gardens
If city skylines aren’t exactly your thing, and you’d rather have a beautiful view of nature, the pool at the Ubud Hanging Gardens in Bali might be more up your alley. Like the pool at Marina Bay Sands, it’s what’s known as an “infinity pool,” which gives the illusion that the water is spilling out of the pool and onto whatever lies below.
9. The Cambrian
Since we’re on the topic of swimming amongst some of the world’s most beautiful scenery, let me ask you this: how would you like to experience the Swiss Alps from the cozy waters of an outdoor thermal pool?
8. Blue Lagoon
Iceland is known for its amazing natural waters, and boasts one geothermal spa that, while not natural, is still impressive in its own right, and perhaps it’s even worth the international trip! At any given time, the water in the Blue Lagoon’s man-made lake averages 102 degrees Fahrenheit (38.9 Celsius), with waters containing sulfur and silica, which are great for your skin.
7. Gold Energy Pool
You’ll bathe like royalty 12,000 feet above sea level at the Gold Energy Pool inside the St. Regis Lhasa Resort in Tibet. This pool is lined in gold leaf tile, giving the water a “blingy” hue and making the experience truly one-of-a-kind.
6. The Library Pool
This pool located in Koh Samui, Thailand gets its unique crimson hue from orange, yellow, and blood-red mosaic tiles. It’s bright and beautiful on its own, but it’s showcased even better by the blue ocean in the background, which stands in stark contrast!
5. Mardan Palace
Now, if you’re a true swimming pool enthusiast, your life won’t be complete until you visit the Mardan Palace in Antalya, Turkey. Built in 2008 by an Azerbaijani businessman, the top-notch resort has been called Europe’s most expensive luxury resort.
4. San Alfonso del Mar Seawater Pool
The world’s second-largest pool is in Algarrobo, Chile, about 62 miles west of Santiago. The massive, man-made lagoon is located at the private San Alfonso del Mar resort. Completed in 2006 at the sky-high cost of $1.5 billion, the pool held the Guinness Book of World Records title for the world’s largest pool until 2015.
3. Seagaia Ocean Dome
If you’re more interested in swimming in one of the world’s largest indoor pools, head on over to the Seagaia Ocean Dome in Miyazaki, Japan. This massive swimming pool, which was originally opened in 1993, is 300 feet wide and nearly 1,000 feet long.
2. Nemo 33
At 115 feet deep, Belgium’s Nemo 33 was the world’s deepest swimming pool from 2004 until 2014. There is one major catch to accessing it, however. You can’t go into Nemo 33 for a standard swim. It’s mostly used for scuba diving lessons. But if you have a passion for taking your skills to the next level, this non-chlorinated, indoor pool in Brussels is probably your dream training facility!
1. The Devil’s Pool
This pool proves that there’s a swimming pool for everyone - even the bravest adrenaline junkies! If you’re the daredevil type, you’ll want to skip all of the hotsy-totsy hotel and resort pools I just told you about and go straight to the Devil’s Pool, located in the Victoria Falls of Zambia and South Africa - the largest waterfalls in the world, and one of the Seven Natural Wonders.
