Akita: Japan's Onsen Paradise
So, this was the most beautiful place we've been to in Japan, we think. Nyuto Onsen, especially Tsurunoyu Onsen, was an experience like we've never had before, and it's something we'll remember for the rest of our lives. Go visit Akita if you have the chance. It'll blow you away.

Must visit onsen (hot spring) in Minamisanriku Japan
Day 2: we visited Hotel Kanyo for onsen (hot spring) in Minamisanriku where the earthwake and tsunami hit in 2011 that wiped out 95% of the town. The onsen has infinity pools outdoor, overlooking the ocean where they raise seaweeds, oysters, and salmon. Hotel Kanyo lobby was on the fifth floor with guest rooms were above the lobby so it was spared from the tsunami, other floors below were hit. We drive around town and saw 3-floor building is left with nothing but a skeleton but the town rebuilding is in progress. It's my first time staying in an onsen and it's fantastic. After relaxing in the hot pools, we rest in traditional Japanese hotel room with tatami mats and futon. The dinner has so many courses and each dish is delicious and beautifully decorated.

Onsen are one of my most favorite things on the face of the earth, and this one was absolutely mind-blowing. Set in the mountains near Tazawako, this place is a hidden paradise with one of the oldest and most famous natural hot spring's in all of Japan. People come from everywhere to visit, although the resort only hosts about 16 people per day. The winter season is particularly known for the mix of the hot spring water and the cold air and surrounding snow that just makes the feeling indescribable.
This is my first video of places near where I am now living in Japan, but I hope to explore some more and share my findings.
If you are ever in Akita, please search out Tsurunoyu and go!
Quick note, the best part of the onsen is actually the outdoor part, but due to it being a group bath, obviously I was not able to take any video, it's a shame because it's really beautiful too.

Our Akita adventure took us to 'Akita Art Village' (located close to the stunning Dakigaeri Gorge) run by performing arts group 'Warabiza'. Here you can enjoy an original stage musical before popping next door to Tazawako Beer brewery for a cold craft-beer (or three) and stumbling 30 metres home to your onsen hotel. There are heaps of entertainment facilities to keep you busy - ideal for a weekend away!

일본 혼슈섬 북쪽 끝에 자리 잡은 아오모리현은 ‘푸른 나무숲’이라는 의미처럼 대자연의 아름다움을 만끽할 수 있는 곳이다. 겨울에 눈이 많이 오기로 유명하며, 일본 제일의 사과 수확량을 자랑하는 곳이기도 하다. 나는 우선 역 앞에서 출발해 중심가를 따라 걷기로 했다. 왼쪽 항구 방향에 독특하게 생긴 건물이 눈에 띈다. 알파벳 ‘A’를 본 따 디자인된 15층 높이의 ‘아오모리현 관광물산관’은 도시의 랜드마크 역할을 하고 있다. 1층엔 이 지역의 대표 특산물과 공예품 등을 모아놓은 쇼핑가가 자리잡고 있다. 삼면이 바다로 둘러싸인 지역인 만큼 해산물이 풍부하다. 그중 가리비는 탱탱한 육질과 개운하고 단맛을 자랑하는 아오모리의 대표 해산물이다. 그밖에 다양한 해산물을 재료로 한 가공식품들이 판매되고 있다. 일본 전체 사과 생산량의 절반을 차지하는 지역답게 사과로 만든 가공품들이 아주 많다. 아예 사과 하나를 통째로 구운 사과파이가 재미있다. 사과나무를 재료로 한 손수건, 주머니에 화장품까지...정말 사과로 만들 수 있는 건 여기에 다 있다. 한쪽에 자리 잡은 파이가게에서 나는 달콤한 냄새.갓 구운 파이의 유혹을 뿌리치기 어렵다. 건물 꼭대기의 전망대에 올랐다. 아담한 시내가 한 눈에 들어온다. 아오모리의 상징물 중 하나인 베이브릿지. 바다에 면한 산책길에는 20년 전까지 홋카이도를 오갔던 연락선이 지금은 전시관으로 변신해 있다.
