Visiting the Hokkaido region of Japan with Koël
See our choice of Japan deals in Sapporo Hokkaido:
The most remarkable thing about the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, and it's capital city Sapporo is the contrast in temperatures between winter and summer.
As a result of the thick snows that turns the city into a winter wonderland during the winter months, Sapporo is favoured more as a winter sports destination than a spring or summer resort. There are ski-slopes within the city limits and residents often enjoy a quick run after work. Sapporo is one of Japan's newest cities, having been constructed almost from scratch as the capital of Hokkaido in 1871.
Sapporo is a clean, well-organised and attractive city with plenty of parks and gardens, wide tree-lined streets, a number of good museums and galleries, and enough shops, restaurants and bars to keep everybody entertained. The main attraction of the city is Mount Moiwa and the mountain's ski slopes, which caters to all ski-enthusiasts with its 11 different courses right on the city's doorstep. Sapporo is a great holiday destination for families who are keen to enjoy a skiing holiday in Japan. For some insight into the fascinating Ainu culture and the region's history visit the outdoor museum in the Hokkaido Nopporo Forest Park, and the Hokkaido Ainu Centre a little way out of the city. For aprés ski relaxation and pampering take an excursion to the famous hot springs of Noboribetsu.

Earthquake hits northern Japan as south recovers from Jebi
Powerful quake kills two, injures at least 125 in northern Japan
Nearly all of the 2.9 million households on the island of Hokkaido were without power.
A powerful earthquake hit wide areas of Japan's northernmost main island, Hokkaido, early Thursday, killing two people, triggering landslides and knocking out power to nearly 3 million households.
The magnitude-6.7 earthquake struck southern Hokkaido at 3:08 a.m. Thursday (2:08 p.m. ET Wednesday) at a depth of about 25 miles, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. The U.S. Geological Survey put the magnitude at 6.6. No tsunami warning was issued.
The quake's epicenter was east of the city of Tomakomai. It also struck Hokkaido's prefectural capital, Sapporo, which has a population of 1.9 million.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said a search was ongoing for about 20 people believed to be missing after the quake triggered dozens of landslides in the mountainous region near the epicenter.
The quake struck as Japan was already dealing with the effects of Typhoon Jebi, the strongest typhoon to hit Japan in 25 years, which killed at least 11 people on Wednesday.
Video on NHK national television showed the moment the quake struck Muroran, with its camera violently shaking and all city lights going out a moment later. In nearby Sapporo, a mudslide hit a road, half-burying several cars. Aerial video showed slashes of brown earth on many heavily forested mountains, crushed homes and farm buildings and roads buried by avalanches of mud, logs and other debris.
Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Hiroshige Seko told reporters that the extensive power loss was caused by an emergency shutdown of the main thermal power plant that supplies half the electricity to Hokkaido.
Authorities sent power-generator vehicles to hospitals so they could accept emergency patients, he said.
In the town of Atsuma, a massive landslide occurred on the side of a mountain, crushing houses at lower grounds.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said at a task force meeting that 4,000 self-defense troops were being deployed on Hokkaido to join search-and-rescue operations. The government will send 20,000 more to the affected sites, he said.
Three reactors at the Tomari nuclear plant were running on backup generators after they lost external power because of the island-wide blackouts, which knocked out power at all 2.9 million households, Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority said. Spent fuel in storage pools was safely cooled on backup power that can last for a week, the agency said.
Brett Kavanaugh, the Supreme Court pick who could tilt American jurisprudence to the right for a generation, vowed to be neutral and impartial, shrugging off bitter Democratic demands for him to stall his own confirmation hearing until questions about his past are fully answered.
President Donald Trump's second pick for the nation's highest court sat silently for much of the day as Democrats staged an aggressive, coordinated effort to slow his apparent march to confirmation -- in exchanges that highlighted several potential 2020 presidential contenders, including California Sen. Kamala Harris and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker.
In addition, Capitol Police said they made 70 arrests Tuesday for protests during the hearing and in other parts of Capitol Hill.
After seven hours of political sparring mostly aimed by senators at their constituencies outside the hearing room, Kavanaugh finally got the chance to speak, and delivered emotional tributes to members his family and his friends -- but resolved none of the issues that Democrats say should derail his nomination.
In a comment that seemed to fly in the face of a day of political estrangement, he warned that the Supreme Court must never be viewed as a partisan institution and argued that a good judge must be an umpire -- a neutral and impartial arbiter who favors no litigant or policy.
Democrats angrily accused the White House and Republicans of hiding key details about Kavanaugh's time as a Bush-era White House lawyer by refusing to publicly release tens of thousands of documents. They also decried a dump of 42,000 documents on Monday night, hours before the hearing.
Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, put the issue directly to Kavanaugh: For the sake of this nation, for the sanctity of the Constitution that we both honor, step up, ask this meeting, this gathering to suspend until all the documents of your public career are there for the American people to see.
2018/September Lake Toya [Jalan-Jalan Hokkaido Japan] 天気のいい日に洞爺湖畔の散歩は気持ちがいいのでおすすめ!
I went to Toya lake.
Along the lakeside is a promenade so you can relax and walk and you can take a walk while looking at the beautiful Lake Toya.
The boardwalk is in good condition.
In the beautiful green in the summer, I can walk.
Various flowers are planted in places such as parks, so you can walk while watching beautiful flowers.
There are guests in the spa town, but there is not much crowding so you can spend a relaxing time.
When you want to relax, I think that it is good to go to Toyako, take a walk and enjoy nature, or go home after entering a hot spring.

Shikotsu-Ko Tsuruga Resort Spa Mizu No Uta via Hawaiian Airlines
We hopped on Hawaiian Airlines Flight 441 to Sapporo and headed back to Hokkaido Japan for the second time this year. With the seasons changing over to spring most of the snow was melted away but the weather was still nice and cool.
We Visited Lake Shikotsu-Ko and stayed at Shikotsu Ko Tsuruga Resort Spa Mizu No Uta. This area was more in the country and away from the busy city life. The resort has a shuttle bus that pick up at Chitose Airport and Chitose Station. The resort staff was very friendly and always smiling. We stayed in their Japanese Western Style room with private hot spring. Nothing better than having to private hot spring right in your room. What better way just to relax and take in the beauty of Japans country side.
