It has branches spreads over 2.5 acres, with a canopy of 19,107 square metres and recorded as the biggest tree in theGuinness Book of World Records in 1989. A small temple dedicated to Thimmamma lies under the tree. An account of this lady in Telugu kept at the shrine reveals that she was the daughter of a Setti Balija couple Sennakka Venkatappa and Mangamma, born in AD 1394. She was married to a Bala Veerayya who died in 1434, and Thimmamma committed Sati. The banyan tree is believed to have sprouted at the place where she ascended the funeral pyre. The people of this area strongly believe that if a childless couple worship 'Thimmamma' they will have a child the very next year. A big jatara is conducted here on the day of Shivaratri festival when thousands of people flock here to worship 'Thimmamma' on this occasion.

The Great Banyan - Widest tree in the world
mmamma Marrimanu is named after the famous banyan tree, which is locally called as Thimmamma Marrimanu as well. With its branches spreading over 5 acres, it is regarded as the biggest of its kind in South India. This tree was recorded as the biggest tree in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1989.
Under the tree, there is a small temple dedicated to Thimmamma. Local people believe that if a childless couple worship Thimmamma they are blessed with a child the very next year.

Thimmamma Marrimanu World's biggest Banyan Tree (Guinness Book of World Records)
తిమ్మమ్మ మర్రిమాను కదిరి పట్టణానికి 35 కిలోమీటర్లు మరియు అనంతపురం నగరానికి 100 కిలోమీటర్ల దూరంలో గూటిబయలు అనే గ్రామంలో ఉంది. దక్షిణ భారతదేశంలోనే అతిపెద్ద వృక్షం గా ఈ తిమ్మమ్మమర్రిమాను పేరు పొందింది. ఈ మర్రిచెట్టు దాదాపు ఐదు చదరపు ఎకరముల కన్నా ఎక్కువ విస్తీర్ణంలో వ్యాపించి ఉన్నది. ఈ చెట్టుకు తిమ్మమ్మ అను ఆవిడ గుర్తుగా పేరు పెట్టారు. కోరిన కోర్కెలు తీర్చే కల్పవల్లిగా తిమ్మను భక్తులు కొలుస్తారు. ఈ తిమ్మమ్మ మర్రిమాను భారతదేశంలోని అతి పెద్ద చెట్టు. 1989లో తిమ్మమ్మ మర్రిమాను గిన్నిస్ బుక్ ఆఫ్ వరల్డ్ రికార్డ్స్ లో స్థానం పొందింది.
