A soy sauce factory that has been operating for over 100 years in Jalan C.Y Choy, George Town, Penang has been ordered to close for two weeks from today, after it was found to be filthy.
Penang City Council Public Health Standing Committee Chairman Ong Ah Teong said, an inspection on the premises revealed cat, rat and cockroach droppings were found on the factory floor which was used to process the soy sauce.
The factory was also fined RM100 for emitting thick smoke not in accordance with specifications and for not providing suitable emission equipment.
The city council issued a two-week notice to the factory operator to change or improve its smoke emission method, to avoid problems to the residents in the surroundings.
