Galapagos, a national park with 97% of the country's land, has a management office in most of its destinations, and keeps records of accesses and crackdowns. Santa Cruz's most famous beach was Tortuga Bay. I think it is one of the cleanest beaches. It was not badly damaged. I like the fact that there are not many tourists. I can enjoy the nature as it is, and it is very quiet, not crowded. I like it very quietly. As the day is cloudy, I see people enjoying the beach effortlessly. At 6 pm, I met a local resident in the gap between tourists who had escaped before the time of departure. People in the travel industry would like to see more visitors. Then nature will be affected again. As an islander, I think we should maintain a good balance. By showing visitors how we live here and how we respect and respect animals, we can make our nature less affected.

Galapagos to Quito Ecuador - Travel Day + a few stops
So it was time to leave the Galapagos but I felt like the trip started the way it began, with some more exploring of the Santa Cruz island. You may leave the islands of the Galapagos but I don't think that they will ever leave you. Next stop was Quito and we arrived doing a quick city tour which was cut short because of the weather and time.
If you have any questions about my trip please leave them below and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

????Visiting the Charles Darwin Research Center in Galapagos Islands ????????Santa Cruz Island Ecuador
Each island within the Galapagos has a unique species of tortoise. Visiting the Charles Darwin Research Center on Santa Cruz is a great way to see the different sub-species of Galapagos tortoises, the Galapagos finches, and many of the other plant species.
Although it is not uncommon to stumble upon some of these gentle giants as you begin exploring the island outside of Puerto Ayora, the research center provides a great way to get up close to the best part - BABY TURTLES! The site is also the former home of the late Lonesome George, the last of his sub-species of tortoise.
We had rented bikes for the day so we took the rest of the daylight exploring the island and stumbling into various tanning spots for the marine iguanas. As usual, we opted to avoid the touristy crowds and dine with the locals, so we capped the night off with dinner and drinks at a night-market hidden just off the main strip (Av. Seymour).

Galápagos 2012: Arriving in Baltra
After a flight lasting ... I think between two and three hours :-) we finally arrived at our destination. We landed at Seymour airport on Isla Baltra. This video shows various things ... more of the islands from above, mostly Isla Santa Cruz, I think, and of course Baltra. Our approach to the airport - at the beginning you see the cabin crew spraying all the carryon luggage; again, I'm not entirely sure what that was about. The landing, of course. The airport, which is quite small. We were soo excited to be there at last ... !!! :-)
The entire archipelago is a national park, and the area of ocean it occupies is a marine reserve. You have to pay an entrance fee to get into the national park - this is currently $100 for adult foreign tourists. Totally worth it, of course. :-) But you have to make sure to have that cash with you when you arrive, otherwise you may find yourself in trouble.
Ecuador and Galapagos Islands
The drama of where Evolution began!
First Impression of Galapagos... One of the TOP Places On Our Bucket List!
See how to travel from Guayaquil, Ecuador to #PuertoAyora on Isla Santa Cruz, #Galapagos Islands. Take note that most people spend a small fortune to visit Galapagos by taking cruises which cost well into five figures. In this series of #TravelVlogs, we’re going to show you how to do more and spend less. So BE sure to watch our entire vlog series so that you can plan out your travel activities.
Because of how far the islands are from the mainland AND the entire Galapagos cluster of islands is an archipelago of volcanic islands, food & supplies are shipped in, which contributes to higher prices. But you don’t have to spend as much as you think, which allows more travelers to check this destination off their bucket list and experience the Galapagos sooner than people imagine.
Galapagos Islands along with all of Ecuador uses USD as their currency.
Before leaving Guayaquil, we paid for a $20 transit pass at the airport that must be purchased per traveler. Upon arriving to the Seymour Airport on Isla Baltra, we had to pay the $100 Galapagos Island Fee which goes towards maintenance of the islands, conservation, protection of the animals, infrastructure and the employees doing all the work (we found this out from one of the island’s National Park Rangers.)
After going through the airport, there’s a $5 bus fee to go to the Baltra Ferry which is $1 fee to cross the Itabaca Channel. Once you cross the channel, there’s two options to head 40ish km to Puerto Ayora:
Option 1: Take the $25 Taxi which is the island’s “transport” service and is 4-door pick-up truck
Option 2: Take the bus for $5
We ended up splitting the $25 taxi fee with a couple from the Netherlands, as it’s a directional fee, not a per-person fee! SCORE!
Stay tuned for more Galapagos travel vlog vids!

The Galapagos Islands Ecuador are outstanding and accessible
A First Class Cruise:
We spent two weeks on a first class cruise in the Galapagos. We visited eleven islands with multiple stops on several islands. It was a trip of a lifetime.
The ‘only place on earth’ birds were great:
Blue-Footed Booby, Red-Footed Booby, Nasca Booby, magnificent frigatebird, penguins, Albatross, flightless cormorant, several species of mockingbirds, Galapagoas Dove, Lava Heron, Great blue heron, Flamingos and ten or more different species of Finches, hawks and more. It was difficult to keep track. The ‘Birders were in heaven.
Spectacular sea life:
As much as enjoyed the birds the sea life was much more to my liking. Playful sea lions, dolphins, sharks, sea turtles, and a hundred different kinds of fish. I liked the puffer fish, Angel, hawkfish, yellowtail surgeonfish, marble ray, white-tip reef shark, Blue-Chin Parrotfish, and a purple and yellow fish I cannot remember. - Ah, King Angelfish and so many more.
Iguanas and Tortoises
On land we had the land and marine iguanas, and of course the tortoises. These are not your everyday tortoises. These are your huge 400 lbs tortoises. We found tortoises on five different islands (Santa Cruz, Fernandina, Floreana, Espanola, and San Cristobal) and they were different species. There are ten remaining species, but I don’t think I saw them all. Many of these species are unique to the Galapagos. It is what makes it unique.

Galapagos #BeatPlasticPollution
The Ecuadorian islands of Galápagos are one of the most unique natural sites in the world. Located 1000km from the coast of South America, it's wildlife served as inspiration for Darwin's Theory of Evolution.
Despite its isolation, Galápagos is no stranger to marine litter. In this short video, the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador, The Galapagos National Park and UN Environment join forces to clean the beaches and oceans of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos Islands, View from My Hotel Room.
View from my hotel room (Hotel Estrelle Del Mar) when first arrived in Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, March 2008. It's think it's about the nicest budget motel on the water (I was happy with it) and pretty much saw the major animal groups I set out to see within 10 minutes looking off the balcony: pelicans (a low flying one tried to leave a little present on me), sea lions, a blue footed booby, marine iguanas and some red crabs. I just had to make a short walk to the Charles Darwin Station to see some giant tortoises.

Another epically long walking day. I thought I was being clever today by taking the airport bus in the morning and walking to the turtle ranch. The bus let me off in Santa Rosa which was about an hours walk away from the Ranch. I didn’t count on it raining so I was very cold and wet the whole day. I don’t think the ranch was worth the walk in the rain but I did get to see turtle sex? Which apparently only happens around January which was went I was there. And for some reason the turtle sex was a clip that magically got deleted somewhere a long the way. I will never forget the sound though. Wink. After I was done I walked all the way back to Puerto Ayora which wasn’t so bad as it had stopped raining.

Charles Darwin Ave. in Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Galapagos Islands
One of the busiest streets in Puerto Ayora. Many people think that the Galapagos Islands are uninhabited but Puerto Ayora is a busy town (accept on Sundays which was when this was taped.) It is a great place to stay and visit the islands independently without being forced to be on a group tour.
