Welcome to Thirst Bistro Bar
Thirst Bistro opened in 2006 with our main dining room, bar and outside space. Thirst expanded with The River Room (private parties) in 2008 and expanded our menu from traditional wine bar to full restaurant including spirits and cocktails. In 2010 we opened The Cellar, another private dining room where we also hold our wine dinners and classes. Thirst has patio seating for 100 outside on the Esplanade and is the best place to watch downtown fireworks in the summer and The Christmas Ships in December. Enjoy the unobstructed River and Bridge views year-round.
Leslie Palmer and Gary Kneski are the Co-Owners of Thirst Bistro.
Leslie is an 18 year veteran of marketing management in Corporate America (Gillette, Intel), and when Thirst opened in 2006, she continued working at Intel while managing all events, marketing and business/financial management at Thirst. She left Intel in 2008 for focus full time on Thirst. Leslie graduated from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh with a degree in communications and earned a Master’s Degree in Public Relations from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. When not at Thirst, she enjoys cooking, making jewelry, traveling, decorating, reading, films and especially spending time with her three little kids.
Gary Kneski, Co-Owner and Wine Director at Thirst Bistro is a former video producer and high tech sales manager. He has a degree in Mass Communications from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. Gary left the corporate world in 2005 to build, open and manage Thirst. Gary studied wine theory and wine making at Chemeketa Community College, worked at Elk Cove Winery for a season, and was a tour guide for Grape Escape Wine Tours. He has made wine at home, as well as beer. He is a frequent judge for Oregon wine competitions. Gary enjoys continually learning about wine because of his deep appreciation for the talent and time involved in growing grapes and also the patience involved in making great wines. His favorite wines are Willamette Pinot Noir, Walla Walla Syrah, Red Mountain Blends, and Paso Robles Grenache. When Gary is not at Thirst, he enjoys traveling, photography, fishing, golf, gardening, making pizza and chasing after his kids.

The most amazing beer selection I've ever seen in my life can be found at this place I visited last night . . . John's Market Place. You want beer? They have beer. Over 800 varieties of beer. According to their website, they have one of the largest selection of beers in the United States. Unreal. I had to make a video . . . maybe it doesn't seem that interesting in a video, but in person it was awesome! I couldn't even choose . . . I had no idea what to pick. Anyway, check out John's Market Place in Portland if you ever get a chance.

Liquid Gold: More craft beer companies pouring into Cincinnati
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - They're pouring into the Greater Cincinnati area like fine-crafted beer. You might call it liquid gold.
The brewpub industry in Southwest Ohio is overflowing – it has increased eight-fold in the past eight years.
Guys like Dave Emery, who started in his garage, and is opening Big Ash Brewing in Anderson Township in early September, are a part of the movement.
Eight years ago we got 28 guys together, each chipped in 200 bucks and we bought some equipment and some ingredients and we all started brewing together,” says Emery.
Just down the Little Miami River in California, Ohio, you'll find another group of entrepreneurs pouring their hearts into a new brewpub, Dead Low Brewing, scheduled to open in late September.
We really wanted a community destination that could serve a wide variety of people,” says Dead Low Brewing’s Christine Hall.
The Ohio Craft Brewers Association reported in 2018 that craft brewers contributed a $967 million and 8,300 jobs to the Ohio economy. In 2011 there were 45 independent breweries in Ohio, now there are more than 300.
Greater Cincinnati is home to 55 of them.
Nationwide, Food & Wine reported the cities with the greatest thirst for breweries are Portland, Maine with 18 breweries per 50,000 people, Asheville, North Carolina, with 17 per 50,000 and Bend, Oregon with 16.
Cincinnati is 25th, with 6 breweries per 50,000 residents. You might think that those already in business in the area would be upset to see startups flooding the market. But that's not the case. They say the more beer the better.
We keep on the path we're on and hopefully you have people coming from all over the United States to come see this great thing we have going on in Cincinnati, said 50 West Brewing Company’s Bobby Slattery.
Slattery said it's not just about a creative menu and crafting beer, it's about creating a community.
Our bike shop, our running group, our canoeing and kayaking, our volleyball league. We like to come up with as many ways we can bring that community together and at the end of the day we hope you end up with a beer.
Jerry and Karen Weber agree. We caught up with them as they were heading into 50 West for lunch. They say they appreciate the local nature of the restaurant, and of course, the beer.
I love the beers. I love the variety,” says Karen. “And they're fresh,” adds Jerry.
Ohio is the fourth largest independent beer producer in the country, crafting 43 million gallons of beer in 2018, mostly fueled by our three biggest breweries - Samuel Adams, Great Lakes and Rhinegeist.

Beer City: How Asheville Became Beer City
Tony Kiss, the beer reporter, has been following the local craft brew scene since 1994. He traces the history of Asheville craft beer from the launch of Highland Brewing Company through this year's announcements that both New Belgium Brewing and Sierra Nevada Brewing will build east coast expansion breweries here and Oskar Blues Brewing will build an operation in Brevard. With 10 craft breweries already operating in Buncombe County, and smaller nano breweries continuing to come on line, Asheville is poised to become the east coast craft beer center of the United States.

Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Day 3, Myrons Walk with Allagash, EP 273
Myron's Walk is part of Sierra Nevada Brewing’s Beer Camp Collaboration, a series of 12 Beers with 12 American Craft Breweries. Myrons Walk is A Belgian Pale Ale Brewed in collaboration with Allagash brewing from Portland Maine.
ABV 5.3% 38 IBU’s
We named this beer in honor of Myron Avery, a founder of the Appalachian Trail, or the A.T., which starts near Sierra Nevada’s North Carolina brewery and ends near Allagash’s home in Maine. Both breweries have a tremendous love of the outdoors, and Avery and the A.T. are great reminders of the wild spirit of exploration that connects us both.
In 1995, Rob Tod started Allagash Brewing Company and since then, Portland, ME, has been a place of reverence in the Belgian brewing pantheon. Allagash adds their Belgian flair to variety of beer styles and are one of the few American breweries to use a traditional coolship for true spontaneous fermentations leading to seriously complex beers native to their coastal home.

The Life and Adventures of Nat Love by Nat Love | Audio book with subtitles
The Life and Adventures of Nat Love
Nat LOVE
Nat Love was born a slave, emancipated into abject poverty, grew up riding the range as a cowboy and spent his maturity riding the rails as a Pullman Porter. For me, the most amazing thing about him is that despite the circumstances of his life, which included being owned like a farm animal solely because of the color of his skin and spending later decades living and working as an equal with white coworkers, he was an unrepentant racist! Convinced that the only good Indian was a dead one, and that all Mexicans were greasers and/or bums, he rarely passed up a chance to shoot a member of either group, whether in self-defense or cold blood, and shows no sign of having appreciated the difference. At one point, he fell in love with a Mexican girl but, apparently unable to tolerate this reality, considered her Spanish. Nat Love was a fascinating character who lived in equally interesting times, and one only wishes his autobiography was much longer and more detailed. summary by ohsostrange

The Invisble Man by H.G. Wells (Full) with Subtitles + Text
A scientist finds a way of becoming invisible, but in doing so, he becomes murderously insane.
The Invisible Man (1897) is one of the most famous science fiction novels of all time. Written by H.G. Wells (1866-1946), it tells the story of a scientist who discovers the secret of invisibility and uses it on himself. The story begins as the Invisible Man, with a bandaged face and a heavy coat and gloves, takes a train to lodge in a country inn whilst he tries to discover the antidote and make himself visible again. The book inspired several films and is notable for its vivid descriptions of the invisible man--no mean feat, given that you can't see him!

White Fang & No Parents - Hey Grandma and Wrecked Mashup
White Fang & No Parents, two of the United States' most brash, hilarious, and ridiculously entertaining bands are hitting the road together this fall with support from Birth Defects. Highlights of the tour include two back-to-back shows at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn on October 30th and again on the 31st where White Fang will be performing as AC/DC, and shortly after that in Austin for the Fun Fun Fun Festival Nights Prefestival.
White Fang is touring in support of their new album ‘Chunks’ which was produced by Bobby Harlow for Burger Records. The first single on the record –Bong Rip – features a video that was directed by Workaholics’ Kyle Newacheck, and was shot largely in the group’s Los Angeles lifestyle-boutique GnarBurger (a partnership between White Fang’s own label Gnar Tapes and Fullerton’s Burger Records). The full-time-freaks also have an affinity for directing their own videos, as evident in the bizarre video for the second singleWrecked. Most recently, the boys teamed up with horror film-maker Nesto to create the cinematic and psychedelic video Drugs I’ve Taken – which also features background music composed by White Fang’s guitarist Unkle Funkle as well as a chopped and screwed tune by the group’s sister-band The Memories.
Los Angeles’ No Parents have a handful of new releases from their 2015 LP ‘May The Thirst Be With You’ On Burger Records to their most recentpartnership with Altamont Apparel and Bionic Ear to produce a limited edition 7” single. No Parents were named Best Band 2015 by LA Weekly and it’s not hard to see why – in the short time they’ve been playing out, they’ve gained all the momentum of a hay-truck en route to the state fair, where – should we be so lucky – a show even half as entertaining as those boasted by these two hard-rock power-houses would blow the mind of any rock fan from wide-eyed youngsters to the most seasoned veterans of the national scene.
Cleverly dubbed the “Escape From LA” tour, this fall’s performances kick-off in Santa Cruz at the Catalyst Atrium on October 5th and after 29 shows brings the boys back to Los Angeles for what is certain to be a sold-out crowd at The Echo on November 11th.

“White Fang have hijacked the logos of both Taco Bell and Van Halen… and that's not too far away from what they sound like.” - AllMusic

The Thirty-nine Steps Audiobook by John Buchan | Audiobook with subtitles
The Thirty-nine Steps
John BUCHAN
Richard Hannay’s boredom is soon relieved when the resourceful engineer is caught up in a web of secret codes, spies, and murder on the eve of WWI. This exciting action-adventure story was the inspiration for Alfred Hitchcock’s 1939 classic film of the same name. John Buchan (1875-1940) was Governor General of Canada and a popular novelist. Although condemned by some for anti-Semitic dialog in The Thirty-Nine Steps, his character’s sentiments do not represent the view of the author who was identified in Hitler’s Sonderfahndungsliste (special search list) as a Jewish sympathiser.
